The Evaluation And Review Of Landscape Architectural Faculty: The Results Of A Survey Of Schools Of Landscape Architecture, Gary O. Robinette Jan 1995

The Evaluation And Review Of Landscape Architectural Faculty: The Results Of A Survey Of Schools Of Landscape Architecture, Gary O. Robinette

Landscape Architecture Faculty Publications - Archive

The first standards for the evaluation of educational programs developed by the American Society of Landscape Architects contained a call for the evaluation of faculty effectiveness. In the intervening years, there have been efforts by the various educational programs to continue to find the most effective methods for measuring faculty competence. However, to-date there has been no collection or organization of these devices used either by students, by peers or by university administrators in this profession. This, then, is the first attempt to do just that and it has involved four phases, which were: the development of the questionnaire, the …

New Mathematical Properties Of The Banzhaf Value, Irinel C. Dragan Jan 1995

New Mathematical Properties Of The Banzhaf Value, Irinel C. Dragan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

In a paper by P. Dubey and L.S. Shapley an axiomatic definition of the Banzhaf value has been extracted from an axiomatic definition of the Banzhaf power index (see [6]). Briefly speaking, the Banzhaf value axioms can be obtained from the Shapley value axioms by replacing efficiency by a similar axiom. This fact suggest that other recently discovered properties of the Shapley value can lead to similar properties for the Banzhaf value and this is the motivation for the present work.

A New Method For Approximating Quantum Dynamical Phenomena Over Short (And Sometimes Long) Time Periods, Donald Greenspan Jan 1995

A New Method For Approximating Quantum Dynamical Phenomena Over Short (And Sometimes Long) Time Periods, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Approximate electron and proton motions are simulated for short time periods for using a special case of the quantum mechanical Ehrenfest equations. Attention is directed only to ground state. A numerical method is employed which conserves the ground state energy at all times. Large proton motions are found, with electron trajectories oscillating between the protons, but concentrating around them.

Computer Modelling Of A Dynamical Water Molecule, Donald Greenspan Jan 1995

Computer Modelling Of A Dynamical Water Molecule, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

A model of a ground state water molecule is formulated dynamically and studied by computer simulations. The enigmatic 104.5° bond angle is approximated by introducing the effects of neighboring molecules in a crystaline state. The numerical methodology used conserves the system energy at all times. Illustrative examples are described and discussed.

Estimating Transition Probabilities From Aggregate Samples Augmented By Haphazard Recaptures, D. L. Hawkins, Jerome Eisenfeld, C. P. Han Jan 1995

Estimating Transition Probabilities From Aggregate Samples Augmented By Haphazard Recaptures, D. L. Hawkins, Jerome Eisenfeld, C. P. Han

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Transition probabilities provide a convenient summary of changes in a categorical trait over time in a population. The difficulties of estimating such probabilities based on only aggregate data from repeated sampling are well known. We give here a method for augmenting aggregate data with haphazard recapture data, which can dramatically improve the estimation precision of transition probabilities. The method requires a rather high sampling fraction to provide sufficient numbers of recaptures. It is based on a generalized nonlinear least squares strategy which yields transition probability estimates preserving their natural parameter space, and which are asymptotically efficient. The asymptotic theory is …

Summary Results Of A Survey Of Economic Development In Texas Cities (Report 95-1), Delbert A. Taebel

Center for Economic Development Research and Service Publications - Archive

Economic development is the new kid on the block in city government. If one looks at any textbook on municipal administration published more than 10 years ago, economic development as a city function would not even have been mentioned. Yet, because of the dozens of conferences and flurry of articles focusing on economic development, it may seem to many that economic development has been around for a long time. Indeed, seven years ago the Institute of Urban Studies published an initial study entitled "Local Economic Development in Texas." Since then, of course, economic development has become a permanent program in …

Business Information And Systems Plan, Texas Department Of Transportation Sep 1994

Business Information And Systems Plan, Texas Department Of Transportation

Documents from the State of Texas-Archive

The Texas Department of Transportation currently faces the challenges of a drastically changing business environment. These challenges include: increased customer expectations, changing demographics, environmental pressures, global competition, increased accountability, a less-experienced workforce and trying to do more with less. Additional pressure has been exerted on the department from federal mandates, state legislation and the general public. In addition, employees demand more timely and accurate information and decision support tools to perform their duties. To keep up with these demands, TxDOT has taken a proactive role to be accountable for the quality of the products and services the department provides. In …

What We Know About Acquisition Of Adult Literacy: Is There Hope?, Helen Abadzi Jun 1994

What We Know About Acquisition Of Adult Literacy: Is There Hope?, Helen Abadzi

Curriculum and Instruction Faculty Publications - Archive

Literacy acquired in childhood positively influences quality of life, but the effects of literacy acquired in adulthood are not well known. Experience shows that literacy is not easily disseminated to adults and that the skills of neoliterates are not stable. Dropouts, mastery, and retention rates are about 50 percent at each stage, so the effectiveness rate of some projects may only be 12 to 15 percent. As a result, literacy projects are now rarely funded by the World Bank despite requests from governments. To find causes for the low effectiveness of programs, two literature reviews were conducted on the topic …

School of Architecture Student Projects - Archive

Design work from the 1994 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Warsaw Housing. The multi-unit dwellings are positioned at a lake in a beautiful park in Warsaw. The horizontal profile of the rhythmically-placed units raise upward and lower downward to resonate with the undulating profiles of the trees. The water is extended into the landscape to distribute lake frontage throughout the site. The continuous rows of units twist and turn creating a rhythm of lyrical lines which extend outward into the land, and extend the land inward into the dwellings. The units …
