Continuous Deformation Of A Developable Surface, Chili Ping Hsu Feb 1996

Continuous Deformation Of A Developable Surface, Chili Ping Hsu

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

A developable surface can be developed from a piece of planar region, or vice versa. Several methods are known to construct an isometric mapping between the developable and the planar region. A simple and efficient algorithm based on the differential geometry and differential equations is presented to construct such an isometric mapping. This algorithm contains a deformation parameter ^, where ^ varies between 0 and 1, that can trace the development of the surface in a fashion that ^ = 0 corresponds to the planar region and ^ = 1 recovers the developable. An error estimation shows the error, in …

Southern Writers And Their Worlds, Christopher Morris, Susan A. Eacker, Anne Goodwyn Jones, Bertram Wyatt-Brown, Charles Joyner

The Walter Prescott Webb Memorial Lectures - Archive

Once a year, the department of history of the University of Texas at Arlington invites several distinguished scholars to participate in the Walter Prescott Webb Memorial Lectures, an event that honors Texas' well-known historian of the West. Southern Writers and Their Worlds, the theme of the twenty-ninth annual lectures, may seem rather removed from the Great Plains of Texas that were so dear to Professor Webb. But, then, Texas belongs not just to the West; it also belongs to the South.... We dedicate this volume to Wendell Knox, historian and teacher, Texan and Southerner, who retired after thirty years of …

Minimum Path Problems In Normed Spaces, Reflection And Refraction, Michael Golomb, Mostafa Ghandehari Jan 1996

Minimum Path Problems In Normed Spaces, Reflection And Refraction, Michael Golomb, Mostafa Ghandehari

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

The main minimum (or extremum) path problem in this paper deals with the "law of refraction" at a curve separating the plane into two parts with different norms. Analytic and geometric characterization for the point at which refraction takes place and formulas for the angles that this incident and refracted rays make with a fixed axis or with the normal to the curve are established. The case where the unit circle of the two norms are Euclidean circles with different radii leads to the traditional Snell's Law. The other problem deals with the "law of reflection" from a curve in …

Conservative Motion Of Discrete, Hexahedral Gyroscope, Donald Greenspan Jan 1996

Conservative Motion Of Discrete, Hexahedral Gyroscope, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Gyroscopic motion is simulated by applying a molecular dynamics formulation to a rigid hexahedron. The conservative dynamical differential equations are solved numerically in such a fashion that all the system invariants are preserved. Examples which included precession, nutation, and a combination of looping and cusp formation are described and discussed.

Analysis Of Tax Capacity And Tax Effort Of Texas Counties, 1980-1993 (Report Ced96-8), Rod Hissong Jan 1996

Analysis Of Tax Capacity And Tax Effort Of Texas Counties, 1980-1993 (Report Ced96-8), Rod Hissong

Center for Economic Development Research and Service Publications - Archive

Texas counties vary dramatically across socio-economic factors. They range in population from 127 in Loving County to 2.9 million in Harris County. Population densities range from less than one person per square mile to 2,175 people per square mile. Some economies are nearly exclusively agrarian, others are heavily dependent upon oil and gas and yet others closely reflect the national economy. These, and other variations, create difficulties when comparing the public fiscal health of the counties; ie a county's ability to generate revenues for public goods and services. This study focuses on the Tax Capacity Index and Tax Effort Index …

Dynamical Generation Of Electron Motions In Ground State H2+, In Ground State H2, And In The First Excited State Of H2, Donald Greenspan Jan 1996

Dynamical Generation Of Electron Motions In Ground State H2+, In Ground State H2, And In The First Excited State Of H2, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Using the recent formulation of Gell-Mann and Hartle for approximating quantum dynamical phenomena by means of classical equations, we simulate electron motions in ground state H2+, in ground state H2, and in the first excited state of H2. The approach develops approximate initial data first by mathematical bisection. The dynamical calculations are then carried out over short time intervals only, which is consistent with the Gell-Mann and Hartle theory and which is applicable because the phenomena to be studied are periodic. An energy conserving numerical scheme is used so that the energy of a given system will be a numerical …

Preserving Historic Cemeteries, Texas Historical Commission Jan 1996

Preserving Historic Cemeteries, Texas Historical Commission

Documents from the State of Texas-Archive

Unfortunately, historic cemeteries do not necessarily remain permanent reminders of our heritage. They are subject to long-tern deterioration from natural forces such as weatherin gand uncontrolled vegetation. Neglect accelerates and compounds the process. Development activities and construction projects are also a threat to these precious resources. With this booklet, the Texas Historial Commission presents steps to aid in the preservation of the state's historic cemeteries. None of these steps, however, will be sucessful without the involvement of individuals who have an interest in local culture and history and a commitment to saving the physical remnants of Texas' heritage that are …

Return To Work Handbook, Texas Rehabilitation Commission

Documents from the State of Texas-Archive

This handbook is intended to provide Counselors with a resource for information to assist in providing Vocational Rehabilitation services using the return to work model for injured workers who are eligible for Vocational Rehabilitation services. Over the last several years, many factors have created an increased interest in using the return to work model. The Council of State Administrators for Vocational Rehabilitation and the RSA Commissioner, as well as other leaders in the field of Vocational Rehabilitation, have recognized the need for public VR agencies to develop greater partnerships with employers. The return to work model is a true example …

Self-Circumference Of Rotors, Edward J. O'Neill, Mostafa Ghandehari Jan 1996

Self-Circumference Of Rotors, Edward J. O'Neill, Mostafa Ghandehari

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

The law of cosines from trigonometry is used to obtain elliptic integrals of the second kind to calculate the "self-circumference" of a Reuleaux triangle and the self-circumference of a rotor in an equilateral triangle. The Euclidean lengths of the polar duals of these sets with respect to their centers are expressed in terms of elliptic integrals of the second kind. Geometric inequalities for the polar duals of rotors in the plane are discussed.

Dynamical Simulation Of The Simplest Hydrides, Donald Greenspan Jan 1996

Dynamical Simulation Of The Simplest Hydrides, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

In agreement with recent results of Gell-Mann and Hartle, we approximate electron motions in ground state Li7H1 and Li7H2 using an energy conserving numerical method for the solution of Newton's equations and a novel assumption about the interaction of the bonding electrons. Initial calculations for the first excited state of Li7H1 are also discussed. I. Introduction. Quantum dynamics is usually perceived through the time dependent Schrödinger equation, for which related analytical and computational problems appear to be insurmountable at the present time. There is however an alternate approach which can be implemented readily when the dynamical behavior is periodic. This …

Conservative Motion Of Discrete, Tetrahedral Top On A Smooth Horizontal Plane, Donald Greenspan Jan 1996

Conservative Motion Of Discrete, Tetrahedral Top On A Smooth Horizontal Plane, Donald Greenspan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Tetrahedral tops are simulated as discrete, rigid bodies in rotation by introducing a molecular mechanics formulation. The contact point of the top with the XY plane is allowed to move in the plane. The conservative, dynamical differential equations are solved numerically in such a fashion that all the system invariants are preserved. Examples which include precession, nutation, cusp formation, and looping are described and discussed.

Two Remarks On Totally Balanced Games, Juan-Enrique Martínez-Legaz Jan 1996

Two Remarks On Totally Balanced Games, Juan-Enrique Martínez-Legaz

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

Two results on totally balanced TU games are presented. It is first shown that the core of any subgame of a non-negative totally balanced game can be easily obtained from the maximal average value function of the game. The second result is a characterization of convex games as those games all of whose marginal games are totally balanced.

School of Architecture Student Projects - Archive

Design work from the 1995 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Concert Hall. Per Johan Dahl. The large scale of the project is reduced by spiraling it into the ground and weaving it into the scale of the surrounding Fort Worth urban fabric. This provides for a more comfortable descent into the entry. Color is used to articulate and enhance a sense of movement through a gradation of warm color at the entrance to cool color inside the hall. The roof slopes and folds upward in two sections, which provide for daylight …

Use Determination For Pollution Control Property : Guidelines For Implementing House Bill 1920 And November 1993 Constitutional Amendment Proposition 2, Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission, Ronald Hatlett

Documents from the State of Texas-Archive

This manual accompanies the rules included in 30 TAC 277. These rules address the TNRCC process for determining that property is used for pollution control purposes. The purpose of this manual is to clarify questions relating to property that is eligible for a positive use determination from the agency, and the procedures to be used in obtaining a determination. A constitutional amendment providing an exemption from property taxation for pollution control property was approved by the voters of Texas on November 2, 1993. Implementing legislation was approved in House Bill 1920 during the regular session of the 73rd Legislature. The …
