On A New Mathematical Model Of The Molecular Bond, Donald Greenspan
On A New Mathematical Model Of The Molecular Bond, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
Using a new model of the molecular bond, we produce a set of initial conditions for the ground state H2 molecule which yield, over one complete period, bond length and vibrational frequency which are identical to the experimental results.
Minkowski's Inequality For Convex Curves, Mostafa Ghandehari
Minkowski's Inequality For Convex Curves, Mostafa Ghandehari
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
Minkowski's inequality is a relation between mixed areas of two curves and their respective areas. The concept of mixed area is defined. A variational technique is used to give a proof of Minkowski's inequality. As a special case the isoperimetric inequality is obtained.

2001.1 - Movie Theatres Metroplex, Martin Price, Heath Macdonald
School of Architecture Student Projects - Archive
Design work from the 2001 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Movie Theatres. Heath MacDonald. The project is sited adjacent to a courtyard-like enclosure just off the highway, at the entry to Ricardo Legorreta's Solana project in Southlake, Texas. The blank exterior walls cut into the ground, and sloping rooftops emerge above the earth and twist in rhythmic patterns around an entry courtyard. The profile is like an expressive series of dancing rock outcroppings. A crystalline entry form contains lines from famous films etched in color. Walkways bridge an open lobby volume …
Discrete Spring Solitons, Donald Greenspan
Discrete Spring Solitons, Donald Greenspan
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
A soliton is a local, traveling wave pulse. It is significant in a variety of unrelated areas, like studies of water waves, acoustic waves, electron transfer, gravity waves, plasmas, optics and condensed matter (Miura [4], Newell [5]). In this paper we will generate and study solitons in a new context, that is, from the point of view of discrete string motion in the XY plane. Our approach enables one to elucidate the complexities of soliton interactions easily using only a scientific personal computer and velocity profiles. Detailed examples are presented and displayed graphically.
A Geometric Inequality For Convex Polygons, Mostafa Ghandehari
A Geometric Inequality For Convex Polygons, Mostafa Ghandehari
Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive
Consider a regular polygon with vertices P1, P2, , Pn. Assume P is an interior point. Let [see pdf for notation] denote the Euclidean distance from P to Pi, i = 1, ...., n. Let A denote the area of the polygon. It is shown that [see pdf for notation] special cases of the above inequality are proved for some nonregular convex polygons. An example is given to show that the above inequality is not true for a general convex polygon.

Caution: Diversity Results Can Be Dangerous, Judith H. Katz, Roger Gans
Caution: Diversity Results Can Be Dangerous, Judith H. Katz, Roger Gans
Communication Faculty Publications - Archive
Many organizations have been engaged in work on diversity, equity and inclusion, but few can honestly report positive results. This article suggests that part of the reason is that few organizations have processes in place to measure success in this area. Deciding on what to measure is a large part of the problem, especially in organizations that have not established a clear connection between DEI factors and their core business processes and outcomes. Typically, managers and work teams focus on achieving measurable goals. When measurement is absent, often so is effort. When DEI objectives are tied to measurable organizational outcomes, …

Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Faculty Publications - Archive
This case study analyzes implementation of an institutional policy restricting the use of graduate teaching assistants in freshmen-level instruction. Findings suggest units viewed implementation as a hierarchically determined compliance task or were able to make implementation an opportunity for creative problem definition and solving akin to the organized anarchy model.

Why Managers Must Listen, Roger Gans
Why Managers Must Listen, Roger Gans
Communication Faculty Publications - Archive
Managers play perhaps the most essential role in any organizational change strategy. Among managerial communication skills, listening is underappreciated but vital not just for clear communication but for fostering workplace engagement and an inclusive work culture. This article outlines the need for two-way communication and provides keys for effective listening.
Bottleneck On The Path To Inclusion, Judith H. Katz, Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans
Bottleneck On The Path To Inclusion, Judith H. Katz, Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans
Communication Faculty Publications - Archive
Many organizations realize they need their work cultures to be more inclusive, but most also believe their work cultures are far more inclusive than they actually are. Barriers to inclusion tend to be invisible to those who do not bump into them on a daily basis. This article identifies why most organizations remain passively exclusive and offers a roadmap for fostering greater inclusivity, including eight specific keys to bypass the “bottleneck.”

The Humanities In Action : A Report To The People Of Texas, Texas Council For The Humanities
Documents from the State of Texas-Archive
The humanities are more than a list of academic disciplines. They are the means through which we learn to appreciate the diversity of our cultural heritage and that of others, the tools through which we learn to think critically, to understand and to shape the complex world in which we live, to develop our moral and aesthetic sensibilities, and to examine wisely the public issues that shape our everyday lives. But in this talk of programs and projects, global and local issues, history, literature, and cultural traditions, let us celebrate the human ties which inform the public humanities. This report …
