On The Inverse Problem For Semivalues Of Cooperative Tu Games, Irinel C. Dragan Apr 2002

On The Inverse Problem For Semivalues Of Cooperative Tu Games, Irinel C. Dragan

Mathematics Technical Papers - Archive

In the present paper, we define a basis of [see pdf for notation] relative to a Semivalue, we compute the potentials of the subgames of a given game, to show that the basis is a potential basis, from which we get the Semivalues of the basic vectors. In this way we discover a basis of the null space of a Semivalue and derive, as in the previous work, a solution of the inverse problem, this time for a Semivalue. As the Shapley value was considered in detail in the previous work, we give a complete description for the Banzhaf value. …

Vaccination Strategies And Backward Bifurcation In Age-Since-Infection Structured Model, Christopher Kribs, Maia Martcheva Jan 2002

Vaccination Strategies And Backward Bifurcation In Age-Since-Infection Structured Model, Christopher Kribs, Maia Martcheva

Mathematics Faculty Publications - Archive

We consider models for a disease with acute and chronic infective stages, and variable infectivity and recovery rates, within the context of a vaccination campaign. Models for SIRS and SIS disease cycles exhibit backward bifurcations under certain conditions, which complicate the criteria for success of the vaccination campaign by making it possible to have stable endemic states when R0 < 1. We also show the extent to which the forms of the infectivity and recovery functions affect the possibility of backward bifurcations. SIR and SI models examined do not exhibit this behavior.

There Is Nothing More Diverse Than "New", Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans Jan 2002

There Is Nothing More Diverse Than "New", Frederick A. Miller, Roger Gans

Communication Faculty Publications - Archive

In the organizational competition for talent, successful retention of newly recruited workers is at least as important as the initial hire. Still, many organizations fail to establish a sense of inclusion for new people in much the same way they often fail to create a sense of inclusion for people of color, women, people with foreign accents, or anyone with obvious differences from the “traditional group.” In most organizations, even those that have embarked on “diversity initiatives,” newly hired people often do not feel welcomed. Consequently, turnover rates in the first two years of employment are seven times greater than …

Texas Airport System Plan, Texas Division Of Aviation, Texas Department Of Transportation Jan 2002

Texas Airport System Plan, Texas Division Of Aviation, Texas Department Of Transportation

Documents from the State of Texas-Archive

The nation's air transportation system currently has the attention of the American public, with the focus of this attention principally on the needs of the country's largest airports. Since the enactment of the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, the proliferation of low fares has sparked a dramatic increase in passenger traffic. In addition, improved air service with increased frequencies through connecting hub airports to multiple destinations has placed a heavy demand on the existing airports that serve as centers fo passenger travel. Meeting the demand will entail construction of additional runways and other improvements at existing airports and, possibly, some …

A Survival Guide To Corporate Golf Culture, Roger Gans Jul 2001

A Survival Guide To Corporate Golf Culture, Roger Gans

Communication Faculty Publications - Archive

Thanks to the popularity of Tiger Woods and other prominent professional golfers with diverse ethnicities and backgrounds, golf has gained a new patina of inclusivity. As a result, corporate golf outings have become more popular than ever before. For non-golfers, this may feel like it means more opportunities to be excluded from an elitist activity. For planners of corporate activities, it can mean a greater challenge to build inclusion into the equation. This article offers a middle-ground perspective on the ins and outs of golf outings.

Review Of The Phonology Of Portuguese, David J. Silva Jun 2001

Review Of The Phonology Of Portuguese, David J. Silva

Linguistics & TESOL Faculty Publications & Presentations - Archive

As noted by its publisher in LINGUIST 12.390, The Phonology of Portuguese (TPP) provides "an accurate description of the phonological system of Portuguese"-referencing both European and Brazilian varieties, and seeks to explain phonological and morphological phenomena "within the light of current phonological theories." With TPP, authors Mateus and d'Andrade have delivered a concise and comprehensive English-language volume on Portuguese phonology, nicely complementing the pre-generative English language version of J. Mattoso Camara's 1970 work, The Portuguese Language (translated by Anthony Naro).
