A Cluster Analysis Of Temperament Using The Student Personality Assessment Form, Karen Corwin Mook

This study combined qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate teachers' practices when referring adolescent males and females to special education under the behavior disorder classification. Sixteen teachers were interviewed for the qualitative study. It was found that: teachers refer more males than females to special education for having a behavior disorder; females are more likely to be referred to guidance counselor as a means of addressing emotional/behavioral concerns within the school setting; within the classroom males tend to demonstrate more externalizing behaviors and females more internalizing behaviors; and teachers tend to demonstrate more leniency with females in the discipline process. …

Process And Quality Characteristics Of Ocean Pout Surimi, Paul Akeng'o

Experiments were conducted to utilize ocean pout (Macrozoarces americanus) for the product ion of surimi, a washed fish mince made stable for frozen storage by incorporation of cryoprotectants. Principal factors affecting gel forming properties, freeze-thaw stability and sensory quality of ocean pout surimi were examined alone, as well as, in combination with either red hake or turkey meat under various conditions. Parameters studied were: i) moisture and salt levels, ii) thermal gelation in a single as well as a two-stage heating process, iii) optimization of gel formimg properties and freeze-thaw stability of blended surimi, iv) texture-modifying effect of different nonfish …

A stable oxygen isotopic study of modern African freshwater gastropod shells was carried out to ascertain the feasibility of the use of the stable oxygen isotope ratios of freshwater gastropods as paleoclimatic indicators.
In this study, the oxygen isotope ratios of the freshwater gastropod shell samples taken from the apertures of the individual shells collected at monthly intervals from one site were examined to ascertain their correlatability with weather, temperature, rainfall, water isotope ratios and other ambient conditions. The novels Nightwood, Genoa, and One Hundred Years of Solitude take intriguing approaches to history which seem to question and subvert certain dominant sociology-cultural attitudes. Not only are we asked to re-view history and its narrative identities, but also to reconsider related issues such as the place of women and desire in history; the body of history; the problem of textuality (history/literature); and the status and identity of the human object.
Traditional humanist criticism is unsatisfactory in considering these problems, so the critical perspective used here derives from Bakhtin and several poststructuralis and feminist theorists. After discussing significant …

With. the critical writings of Mikhail Bakhtin as a guide, this thesis attempts to not only illuminate a Joycean text, Ulysses, but also to examine the complexity of what constitutes textuality.
This essay will resituate Ulysses and will explicate and analyze passages which have as yet to be examined as integral parts of a literary puzzle. The cohesive element of the essay utilizes Bakhtin's categories of literary carnivalization, Parody, Reversals, Dualisms, Profanations, and Grotesque Realism, as they aid an expanded discussion of Ulysses as a dialogical text.

The food habits, metabolic rate and growth rate of juvenile scup (Stenotomus chrysops (L.)) in Narragansett Bay, R.I. were studied during the summer of 1987.
The instantaneous gastric evacuation rate of this demersal fish species was determined in the laboratory. The linear estimate of this rate was 0.17/hour and the exponential estimate was 0.34/hour.
Field studies were performed to determine the feeding periodicity of juvenile members of this species and the types of prey consumed. Scup were found to be daytime and therefore probably visual feeders. The types of prey consumed included polychaetes, mysids and other crustacea, molluscs, and …
