The Relationship Of Dopamine To Blood Pressure In Experimental Renal Hypertension, David William Coates
The Relationship Of Dopamine To Blood Pressure In Experimental Renal Hypertension, David William Coates
Open Access Dissertations
The possible relationship among urinary dopamine levels, circulating dopamine levels, kidney dopamine levels and arterial blood pressure was studied in hypertensive rats and dogs. The role of the kidney in the formation of dopamine from dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA) was also investigated in cats.
Hypertension was produced by right renal nephrectomy followed in two weeks by contralateral renal artery compression.
The blood pressure of both the rats and dogs showed a sharp increase the first week following the second operation and remained elevated for the duration of the study. Individual pressures as high as 205 mm Hg were encountered.
Dopamine was extracted …

A Study On The Action Of The Hypothalmic Feeding Centers During Insulin Stress, Paul Edward Araujo
A Study On The Action Of The Hypothalmic Feeding Centers During Insulin Stress, Paul Edward Araujo
Open Access Master's Theses
Mice of the KC strain can survive injections up to 300 units of insulin as compared to the maximum 30-50 units tolerated by normal BUB mice. This resistance is inherited. The KC mice are able to survive the hypoglycemia by maintaining their blood sugar level just above that which produces convulsions. Previous work had suggested that an increased rate 0£ food consumption supplied the carbohydrate necessary to overcome the hypoglycemia.
Current theories on the mechanism of hunger drive emphasize the role played by the hypothalamic reeding centers. The best understood centers are the lateral feeding center and the ventromedial satiety …

Ghana's Economic Relations With The Soviet-Bloc Countries: A Study Of The Critical Period 1959-1965, Kwadwo Ansong
Ghana's Economic Relations With The Soviet-Bloc Countries: A Study Of The Critical Period 1959-1965, Kwadwo Ansong
Open Access Master's Theses
In the past eight years, Ghana, like the rest of the sub-Sahara nations, established economic relations with the bloc nations. The idea behind this move was that economic relations with other nations would extricate Ghana's economy from foreign dominance and eventually help realize both economic and political objectives set forth in the post-independence years.
The purpose of this study was to survey the economic exchanges between Ghana and the Soviet-bloc nations and to assess its impact on the Ghanaian economy.
The following conclusions were drawn after the study:
1) Ghana diverted a small but significant portion of her trade with …
An Investigation Of The Relationship Between The Sulfhydryl Reactivity And The Inhibition Of In Vitro Oxygen Uptake By Certain Molluscicidal B-Nitrostyrene Derivatives, Robert Thomas Louis-Ferdinand
An Investigation Of The Relationship Between The Sulfhydryl Reactivity And The Inhibition Of In Vitro Oxygen Uptake By Certain Molluscicidal B-Nitrostyrene Derivatives, Robert Thomas Louis-Ferdinand
Open Access Master's Theses
Eleven derivatives of B-nitrostyrene were found to inhibit the oxygen uptake of whole tissue homogenates of the snail Australorbis glabratus. The inhibition of oxygen uptake by B-nitrostyrene was diminished in the presence of excess and equimolar concentrations of cysteine in the incubation media. The addition of cysteine resulted in changes in the ultraviolet spectra of B-nitrostyrene solutions. Similar addition of serine to B-nitrostyrene solutions had no discernible effect on the ultraviolet spectra. B-nitrostyrene were found to delay the development of color which normally results from the reaction between cysteine and 515’-dithiobis (2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB). The ability of the nitrostyrenes …
A Preliminary Study Of The Effects Of An Imidazolecarboxyhydrazide On Blood Pressure, Monoamine Oxidase, And Locomotor Activity, Robert Louis Procaccini
A Preliminary Study Of The Effects Of An Imidazolecarboxyhydrazide On Blood Pressure, Monoamine Oxidase, And Locomotor Activity, Robert Louis Procaccini
Open Access Master's Theses
Imidazole - 4, 5-di carboxylic acid, di -2-mcthylhydrazide (JNIVa), exemplary of several recently synthesized dihydrazides, was investigated for possible monoamine oxidase inhibiting properties. A significant alteration of systemic blood pressure, measured both directly and indirectly, was not evident during either single of resepated administration of JNIVa at los doses. Monoamine oxidase, as determined spectrophotometrically, was inhibited in vitro but not in vivo by this compound. The degree of enzyme inhibition was shown to be dependent upon preincubation time. Compound JNIVa was less effective in inhibiting monoamine oxidase in vitro than was phenelzine, a known inhibitor of monoamine oxidase both in …
Characteristics Of Firesetters In Different Developmental Stages Of Growth, Ira Austin Smith
Characteristics Of Firesetters In Different Developmental Stages Of Growth, Ira Austin Smith
Open Access Master's Theses
A discriminant analysis, analysis of maximum separation, and analysis of percentage of contribution of sixty-four case referred firesetters and sixty-four equated, case referred nonfiresetters to Mental Hygiene Services and Child Welfare Services, Department of Social Welfare, State of Rhode Island, partially confirmed the hypothesis that firesetters can be differentiated from nonfiresetters by the psychological characteristics of impulsiveness, hyperactivity, enuresis, hostility, theft, destructiveness, hyperkinesis, and abnormal sexual practices at different chronological, developmental stages of growth. Only a combination, disregarding individual analysis, of age groups five through seven, eight through eleven, and twelve through sixteen in toto, yielded significant (p < .05) results. This suggested that firesetters and nonfiresetters develop, both physically and emotionally, in accord with Freudian psychosexual, developmental stages. The hypothesis that firesetters remain fixated on an oral psychosexual level of development was therefore rejected as was the suggestion that they are fixated on a more advanced phallic-urethral psychosexual level.
The behavioral …
The Psychological Continuity Within Discontinuity Of Spenser's Four Hymns, Sara Pettigrew Adams
The Psychological Continuity Within Discontinuity Of Spenser's Four Hymns, Sara Pettigrew Adams
Open Access Master's Theses
This study deals with the question of whether there is a psychological continuity in the Four Hymns. When the problem of continuity arises, most critics see a sharp break between the first two and the final two hymns, a complete change in the nature of vision.
Textual analysis and the study of secondary materials reveal that most critics fail, except in matters of parallel poetic structure, to see how interdependent the hymns are. If there is an ascent, they see an ultimate goal from which there must be no looking back: a Platonic ladder ascending from mere shadows to …

Differential Effects Of Guanethidine And Reserpine On Norepinephrine In The Brain And Heart Of Male Albino Rats Subjected To Restraint, Thomas Paul Blaszkowski
Differential Effects Of Guanethidine And Reserpine On Norepinephrine In The Brain And Heart Of Male Albino Rats Subjected To Restraint, Thomas Paul Blaszkowski
Open Access Dissertations
The effect of guanethidine (1.20 mg/kg, i.p.) or reserpine (0.2 mg/kg, i.p.) has been compared on various indices of pituitary-adrenal stimulation in rats subjected to chronic forced restraint for 24 days. This was accomplished by analyzing the serum corticosterone, the adrenal ascorbic acid (AAA) and various organ weights such as the adrenals, brain and heart. Peripheral and central norepinephrine (NE) was also measured.
Chronically stressed, control rats or those treated with guanethidine demonstrated both behavioral and neurochemical adaptation. Initial excitation associated with restraint was related to changes in NE in the brain and heart. As the experiment progressed, the stressed, …
