The Nickel Lake Macrodike (NLMD) is a geologic feature that is about 1 km wide and 5 km long. NLMD is similar in age to the Duluth Complex since both originate from the same geologic event, the Midcontinent Rift. The Midcontinent System extends from Kansas to Michigan and formed 1.1 Ga. NLMD was first mapped in 2006 by Dean Peterson et al. and has had other projects done on it in the past. One such project is a study in the magnetism done by master's student Finnes in 2012. The aim of this project is to make high-resolution images of the 23 species of fiddler crabs inhabiting coastal regions of Europe, East Africa, North America, Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and South America. So that these can be used by anyone to identify species, the images will be published on the UNI - Rod Library ScholarWorks webpage (https://scholarworks.uni.edu/) and publicly available on the World Wide Web.

Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) Symposium

This study explored pre-service secondary science teachers’ self-efficacy, science teaching beliefs, and science teaching practices. We measured self-efficacy (Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument-B), science teaching beliefs (Teacher Belief Instrument), and effectiveness (Local Systemic Classroom Change Observation Protocol) three times throughout the semester. Overall, there was a significant increase in self-efficacy, science teaching beliefs, and effectiveness between measures one and three. However, three different trends were observed when looking at participants in smaller groups: the Dunning-Kruger effect, consistent growth, and the false consensus effect.

Faculty online learning communities (FOLCs) can help faculty effectively adopt and persist in using research-based curricula. This paper documents faculty perspectives on the value they gained from participating in a multi-year FOLC designed to help them implement an inquiry-based physical science curriculum. Personal value narratives were collected from 11 volunteer FOLC participants. In the narratives, participants responded to prompts regarding their initial reasons for participation, activities they engaged in, and values they gained, as well as how participation impacted their profession, social connections, professional practice, and ability to influence their world as teachers. The gender wage gap continues to prove a contentious topic with some going as far as to question its existence. However, scholarly works continue to prove it is real and impactful. More fruitful debates have arisen about the source of this disparity in wages. This paper seeks to analyze one possible explanation for the pay gap: gender-based occupational segregation. I used OLS regressions based on women working full-time between the ages of sixteen and sixty-five to measure this. I find a negative effect of segregated occupations on women’s earnings across countries and years. On a similar note, the percentage of …

When examining the United States economy, it is crucial to consider the immigrant population within the labor force. This paper analyzes the determinants of employment status among immigrants. A logistic regression analysis was conducted using data collected across the United States to identify possible explanations for the observed variations. In this model, I selected variables based on past research and theories that indicated their significance. To explain immigrant employment status, I tested variables including sex, age, race, citizenship, years in the United States, English proficiency, and educational attainment. Determinants Of Women’S Fertility Rates In The U.S., Kelle Bormann

Proceedings of the Jepson Undergraduate Conference on International Economics

Fertility rates have long been a subject of extensive research. In our constantly evolving world, economists have examined these rates across different times and regions to understand how cultural and economic factors influence women’s fertility. This paper analyzes historically significant factors to determine if their impact has changed over time, aiming to inform policies addressing the declining fertility trend. Data from the IPUMS USA 2021 census was used, estimated through a logit odds ratio regression with robust standard errors, and analyzed at the ten, five, and one percent significance levels. Children’S Reading Of Visuals In Informational Picturebooks And Biographies, Sunah Chung

Visuals in picturebooks play an important role in supporting children’s reading comprehension and literacy development. This qualitative case study analyzes three American families’ shared reading practices at home by analyzing their online surveys for family literacy environments, reading logs for a month, mother interviews, and video observation of their shared reading at home. The analysis of the collected data categorizes children’s responses to visuals into three major themes: reflecting personal preferences and thoughts on visuals, interpreting visuals based on prior knowledge, and misreading visuals that interfere with understanding content. Mindfulness witnessed a substantial popularity surge in the past decade, especially as digitally self-administered interventions became available at relatively low costs. Yet, it is uncertain whether they effectively help reduce stress. In a preregistered (OSF https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/UF4JZ; retrospective registration at ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06308744) multi-site study (nsites = 37, nparticipants = 2,239, 70.4% women, Mage = 22.4, s.d.age = 10.1, all fluent English speakers), we experimentally tested whether four single, standalone mindfulness exercises effectively reduced stress, using Bayesian mixed-effects models. Borderline Personality Disorder Subtypes And Public Stigma, Seth A. Brown

Despite high public stigma towards individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD), no research has examined whether stigma differs among the various proposed BPD subtypes. The primary purpose of this research was to examine two potential contributors to stigma towards individuals with BPD: 1) gender, and 2) BPD subtype of the individuals. The three subtypes utilized in this study were emotional, low anxiety, and inhibited (Sleuwaegen, 2018). A total of 415 participants read 1 of 6 randomly assigned vignettes about an individual and then completed the Attribution Questionnaire which encompasses 6 aspects of stigma.
