This study is dedicated to the economic valuation of human capital (HC) in the regions where the Indigenous peoples of Kamchatka reside. The entire Kamchatksky Krai is considered an Indigenous people’s ancestral territory. However, in this study, only municipalities whose population is more than one-third Indigenous were chosen for the assessment. This includes six municipal districts and one urban district (Aleytsky, Bystrinsky, Karaginsky, Olyutorsky, Penzhinsky, and Tigilsky municipal districts and Palana urban district). The study employs statistical analysis and integrated, situational approaches: the investment approach was deemed the most appropriate tool for the economic assessment of HC in Indigenous territories. …

Brazilian Slave Narratives Documents

A 55-year research project started searching for the equivalent of the U.S. “Slave Narrative” in Brazil, the American nation that enslaved nearly 50% of the African captives, and has the 2nd largest black population in the world. Delving into the archives of 4 continents and the publications of the “nova historiografia,” revealed Brazil’s unique history of slavery and required the critical abandonment of the U.S. genre to construct the “Narrativa Escravizada Brasileira” sui generi.

Thorough investigations into air temperature variation across urban environments are essential to address concerns about city livability. With limited research on smaller cities, especially in the American Midwest, the goal of this research was to examine the spatial patterns of air temperature across multiple small to medium-sized cities in Iowa, a relatively rural US state. Extensive fieldwork was conducted utilizing manually built mobile temperature sensors to collect air temperature data at a high temporal and spatial resolution in ten Iowa urban areas during the afternoon, evening, and night on days exceeding 32 °C from June to September 2022. Human replication protein A (RPA) is a heterotrimeric ssDNA binding protein responsible for many aspects of cellular DNA metabolism. Dynamic interactions of the four RPA DNA binding domains (DBDs) with DNA control replacement of RPA by downstream proteins in various cellular metabolic pathways. RPA plays several important functions at telomeres where it binds to and melts telomeric G-quadruplexes, non-canonical DNA structures formed at the G-rich telomeric ssDNA overhangs. Here, we combine single-molecule total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy (smTIRFM) and mass photometry (MP) with biophysical and biochemical analyses to demonstrate that heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNPA1) specifically remodels RPA bound to …

The Influenza outbreak that started in 1918 was considered to be the worst medical holocaust that occurred since the Black Death back in Europe in 1346. It has said to be deaths went up to 50 million people worldwide. How did this outbreak affect those closer to the Midwest, specifically Iowa? My project outlines the effects of the Spanish Flu within Iowa and how society was impacted during the outbreak.
