Students At A Chinese Radio And Television University: Reasons For Participation, And Perceptions Of Their Status As Students And The Quality Of Their Learning, Huiping Ding

The purpose of this case study was to investigate students' participation in distance education and perceptions of their status as students and the learning achieved within the context of a radio and television university in the North of China. This study focused on the students who had completed a two-year college program and been promoted to a four-year bachelor's degree program. Data was collected and analyzed from observations, interviews and document reviews.

Violent crimes committed by youth in their school environments have been a focus of concern in recent years. Since the tragedy at Columbine High School and the subsequent copycat efforts many questions have been raised by the public regarding how and why these school shootings occurred. In response to these questions, the Federal Bureau of Investigation produced a report listing 46 characteristics from four main categories (Personality Traits and Behavior, Family Dynamics, School Dynamics, and Social Dynamics) that they determined to be common characteristics of school shooters. Health outcome instruments attempt to measure patient's ability or change in ability. Region specific instruments offer practical data for athletic trainers, but serious limitations are hindering proper measurement within health outcomes research. First, these limitations are attributable to the classical test theory (CTT) approach of instrument development and evaluation. Second, they are attributable to the instruments' unknown measurement capabilities within a physically active population. Within recent years modern measurement theory (MMT), which accounts for CTT limitations, has been incorporated in the health sciences. This study examined the effects of dietary intervention, specifically the Gluten-Free, Casein-Free diet, on the behavior and the learning abilities of children who have been diagnosed with autism. The benefits and limitations of this study were discussed as to how dietary interventions affect the behavior of children with autism. Guidelines were presented on how to implement a Gluten-Free, Casein-Free diet. Also, conclusions were drawn from the study and literature, and recommendations were made on how to select a dietary intervention.

This exploratory study centers on a small number of children's books to examine how female characters are portrayed, and to consider the question, "Do gendered images of female characters exist visually in children's literature? I selected 5 books from the time periods of 1980 to 1989 and from 2000 to 2005. These books were written by U.S. authors and are directed at children aged 5-8 years. Findings are tentative, based upon the limited number of books included in the study, but patterns indicate that children's literature portrays gender somewhat stereotypically. As identified in the Healthy People 2010 report (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services [USDHHS], 2000) leading health indicators are: physical activity; overweight and obesity; tobacco use; substance abuse; responsible sexual behavior; mental health; injury and violence; environmental quality; immunization; and access to health care. For the purposes of this paper, the health indicator under review will be physical activity. Regular participation in physical activity has been shown to reduce the risk of premature mortality, coronary heart disease, hypertension, colon cancer, and diabetes in people of all ages. Plant species diversity in reconstructed prairies is extremely low when compared to that of prairie remnants. In this experiment I am testing the feasibility of increasing the abundance of native forbs in a reconstructed prairie using an incremental approach. The site chosen for this experiment is one that consists of five species of thirty-year old prairie grasses along with 23 species of native prairie forbs that were overseeded in 1999.

I hypothesized that forb diversity could be increased in an established grassland using an incremental approach, and that mowing would amplify the success of the planting. To test these ideas …

Atrazine is one of the most widely used herbicides in the United States. It is frequently used for general weed control on both industrial and agricultural land. However, atrazine has been associated with many harmful non-target effects in animals and humans. Due to its prevalence in the environment, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEP A) has set the maximal contaminant level of atrazine in drinking water at 3 ppb (USEP A, 2003 ). Atrazine is one of the most commonly used herbicides in the United States, in particular for maize crops. This herbicide is very effective against weeds. However, it has also been associated with many harmful health effects in non-target organisms such as amphibians and mammals. One of the non-target effects of atrazine may be to act as an endocrine disruptor in different cells. To study the endocrine system effects of atrazine in human cells, a human liver cell line (HepG2) was used. How do we discern beauty? The question has been debated by competing theorists throughout the years. Recently, Reber, Schwarz, and Winkielman (2004) have proposed that beauty is a function of an individual's processing fluency. In other words, the more easily one first processes an image the more beautiful it is judged to be. The current research aimed to tests this hypothesis using selected works of fine art. Using self-reports, responses to altered and unaltered images were recorded.
