The Academic And Social Adjustment Problems Of Taiwan-Chinese Students Studying At Iowa Regents Higher Educational Institutions, Shu-Er Lee

Graduate Research Papers

Cross-cultural contacts are easier and more convenient because technological developments have shortened the distance between countries. The third world countries demand advanced technological and industrialized knowledge and skills to develop their countries. Therefore, they send a large number of students to highly developed countries to absorb their invaluable scientific experiences. In particular, the third world countries send a large number of students to the United States because of its leading position in technology, advanced economic development and democratic leadership.

Organizational Stress Management And Resulting Role Implications For The Organizational Health Promotion Professional, Laurinda K. Young

Graduate Research Papers

Organizational stress significantly impacts on U.S. businesses and has been identified as being responsible for a high percentage of employee absenteeism, turnover, health claims, decreased productivity and low morale. Estimates of the direct and indirect costs of stressrelated dysfunction within this sector are between $100 and $150 billion per year. Organizations are increasingly concerned about the impact of stress on individual and corporate health and are implementing a wide variety of stress management programs. At this point, however, few companies are able to demonstrate that stress management programs are effective.

Parent Involvement In A Public Preschool: Proposed Guidelines For An Effective Program, Bonnie Dunham Jan 1988

Parent Involvement In A Public Preschool: Proposed Guidelines For An Effective Program, Bonnie Dunham

Graduate Research Papers

There has been a substantial amount of research indicating that the major source of a student's motives for achievement, as well as his or her personality structure, is the home in which he or she grows up (Gordon, 1977). The behavior and attitudes of parents, as well as the nature of the physical setting and materials provided, have a direct impact on the child's behavior before and during the school years. The school is another source of a child's intellectual and personality development. The nature of the curriculum, the mode of teacher behavior, and the classroom ecology all influence not …

Expressive writing assignments were incorporated into the biology curriculum of the experimental group two to four times a week during the …

A Case Study Of The Effect Of Aids On The Physical, Social, Emotional, Sexual, And Spiritual Health Of One Person With Aids, Nancy D. Galloway Jan 1988

A Case Study Of The Effect Of Aids On The Physical, Social, Emotional, Sexual, And Spiritual Health Of One Person With Aids, Nancy D. Galloway

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

This research is a case study of a former IV drug user, male, aged 37, who was diagnosed with AIDS two years previous to the beginning of the study. The subject and five individuals from his family and close circle were interviewed to investigate, assess, and evaluate how the experience of contracting AIDS had impacted his physical, social, emotional, sexual, and spiritual health. Open-ended interviews covering the five dimensions of health were conducted, and a 10-point Likert scale was employed from a before-and-after AIDS perspective. Results of analysis of statistical data showed a significant decrease (< .0005) in physical health of the subject and a significant increase (< .005) in his spiritual health. Sexual health was reported to have the greatest standard deviation. Qualitative analysis of the interview data indicated the subject had experienced growth in the social and emotional dimensions of health, but this was not confirmed by analysis of statistical data.

Fundamental Concepts Required By Electromechanical Technology Graduates For Entry-Level Employment In Related Industry, Julio R. Garcia

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI

The objective of this study was to determine the fundamental electromechanical concepts needed by electromechanical technology graduates to perform efficiently at the entry-level employment in related industry. An extensive review of the literature indicated that it was necessary to prepare electromechanical technologists with emphasis given to the area of electrical/electronics technology, mechanical technology, fluids, and fiber optics. Thusly prepared, these graduates would be able to service modern industrial equipment and would have greater opportunities in the job market than at present.

A Likert format questionnaire was developed to gather the necessary data. The survey instrument consisted of 91 concept statements …

This study utilized a 4-week group treatment format in assessing the effectiveness of the use of a film series, Becoming Orgasmic (Lo Piccolo & Heiman, 1976), in treating women with anorgasmia. Twenty-four volunteers, ages 20 to 49, were assigned to four treatment conditions: (a) combination discussion and film group, (b) discussion only group, (c) film only group, and (d) delayed treatment control group. It was hypothesized that subjects receiving treatment would report greater improvement than control subjects on dependent variables (sexual satisfaction, orgasm frequency, body image, self-esteem, sexual attitudes, and sexual experiences) as measured by pre- and post-testing on the …

The Evolution Of Iowa's Intermediate Educational Unit And Its Influence On The Delivery Of Special Education: A Historical Perspective, Christopher Anthony Kleve

Iowa has developed a unique regional intermediate education system known as Area Education Agencies (AEAs). The AEAs provide local school districts with special education programs and services, media services, and other education services. The AEAs have existed since July 1, 1975 after the passage of Senate File 1163 in 1974. The AEAs were not the first intermediate educational units in Iowa. In 1858 the state legislature created the office of the county superintendent to serve as intermediate link between the local schools and the office of the state superintendent. Expanding The Automated Centralized Control System At The Des Moines Area Community College, Mark David Baethke

Graduate Research Papers

DMACC currently has over $1,200,000 invested in the ACCS which is connected to 21 campus buildings. The ACCS is used to save an estimated $300,000 per year in energy costs through energy conserving control of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment. The ACCS also improves building life safety functions through fire alarm monitoring and serves as a significant trouble shooting tool for the mechanical maintenance staff. The initial installations of the ACCS were done after lengthly audits and studies by professional consulting firms which resulted in the recommendations for installation and expansion. These studies were limited to only a few …
