A Survey Of A Selected Public Group In The Vinton Community School District With Implications For The Improvement Of Certain Educational Services In The Senior High School, Arnold H. Gaumnitz
A Survey Of A Selected Public Group In The Vinton Community School District With Implications For The Improvement Of Certain Educational Services In The Senior High School, Arnold H. Gaumnitz
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The objectives of this study were (1) to determine what a selected group considered to be the major role of a high school education: (2) to determine some attitudes of this public relative to certain educational services being offered in the Vinton High School; (3) to determine the feelings of the group concerning the need for changing certain educational services in the Vinton High School; and (4) to determine some attitudes of the select group concerning what forces have produced change and the best way to bring about educational change in the Vinton High School.

Trap Biases And Weather Parameters Influencing Mosquito Collecting And Activity, Virgil Roy Acuff
Trap Biases And Weather Parameters Influencing Mosquito Collecting And Activity, Virgil Roy Acuff
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
During the summer of 1972, eighteen species of mosquitoes were collected in Black Hawk Park, Cedar Falls, Iowa, using a New Jersey light trap, a Communicable Disease Center (CDC) miniature light trap baited with dry ice, an unbaited Malaise trap and a biting collection. Collections were made concurrently with the dual purpose of investigating trap biases for various species of mosquitoes captured and analyzing the effects of temperature, rainfall, relative humidity, barometric pressure, light intensity, and moonphase on the flight activity of female Aedes vexans (Meigen). The New Jersey light trap and the CDC miniature light trap baited with dry …
The Quality Of Life In A Midwestern Rural Community, James E. Bodensteiner
The Quality Of Life In A Midwestern Rural Community, James E. Bodensteiner
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
This thesis is based on the following assumptions: (a) that the kind of community in which people live affects their sense of well-being, (b) that a community should provide certain qualities for its residents in order that they may enjoy an optimum quality of life, (c) that many large urban population centers are failing to provide the environment for this desired quality of life, and (d) that rural communities are and have been on the decline as population and business centers in the United States. In view of these assumptions this study attempted to discover whether the small rural community …
The Immediate Recall Performance Of Language Deviant Children For Three Kinds Of Verbal Materials, Donna L. De Shaw
The Immediate Recall Performance Of Language Deviant Children For Three Kinds Of Verbal Materials, Donna L. De Shaw
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Current research on language deviant children has included studies of two facets of short term memory-span and accuracy. Investigators have found the language deviant have shorter spans, and that they reproduce material with errors. Menyuk (1969) hypothesized that the difficulty lay either "in their short term memory capacity or the perceptual devices used" (p. 155). Weiner (1972) listed a number of possible sources of difficulty in repeating material including the manipulation of verbal symbols. Such manipulation may fit the encoding process of Aaronson's (1967) model of short term memory which includes an "encoding" stage where items are readied for retention …

Architectural Rendering, Robert D. Bailey
Architectural Rendering, Robert D. Bailey
Graduate Research Papers
While it is the obligation of all teachers of industrial education to keep aware of modern processes and techniques used by industry, the subject of this study is confined to one, architectural rendering. It is the purpose of this study to investigate the theory and application of architectural rendering, to explore the techniques and methods commonly used in architectural rendering for commercial purposes, and lastly to determine whether or not these techniques have any ramifications for teaching in the industrial arts classroom.

Guided Wave Propagation In Cylindrical Domains With Non-Orthogonal Sets Of Normal Modes, Herbert H. Snyder
Guided Wave Propagation In Cylindrical Domains With Non-Orthogonal Sets Of Normal Modes, Herbert H. Snyder
Proceedings of the Iowa Academy of Science
Guided wave propagation is studied for the interior of circularly cylindrical domains; on the (cylindrical) boundary the ratios E2/Hφ and H2/Eφ are assigned functions of frequency and position, called surface impedances. Even in the case where the impedances are independent of position on the wall, the normal modes of propagation (expressed in terms of certain Bessel functions) do not form an orthogonal set on sections of the guide normal to the propagation direction. It follows that mode relative amplitudes cannot be determined by a Fourier-Bessel expansion of steady-state fields given on an input plane. To determine …
Secondary Teacher Education: Where We Are Going At The University Of Iowa, Robert E. Yager
Secondary Teacher Education: Where We Are Going At The University Of Iowa, Robert E. Yager
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
In September of 1970 a grant was awarded by the National Science Foundation to the Science Education Center at the University of Iowa for the development of pre-service programs for teachers of secondary school science. The program was called Iowa-UPSTEP, (Undergraduate Pre-Service Teacher Education Program). The rationale for this program and a report of its progress is a response to "Where We Are Going" at the University of Iowa.
Interdisciplinary Environmental Education Program For Teachers, James E. Murphy
Interdisciplinary Environmental Education Program For Teachers, James E. Murphy
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
Environmental education offers a unique opportunity for innovative teaching because no one is around to say, "But, I always did it this way." Thus new environmental programs do not have to overcome the educational inertia of tradition which has stopped many new instructional movements dead in their tracks.
An Association Position Statement On Programs And Budgets Of The National Science Foundation Division Of The Pre-College Education In Science, Michael R. Lerner
An Association Position Statement On Programs And Budgets Of The National Science Foundation Division Of The Pre-College Education In Science, Michael R. Lerner
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
This document is a position statement, together with recommendations, from the National Science Teachers Association relative to educational programs and budgets of the National Science Foundation, particularly at pre-college levels. It is the result of noting with great concern what seems to us to be a serious, threatening decrease in financial support for such educational programs over the past three years, coupled with our firm belief that more and better science education -- not less, either in quantity or quality -- is an imperative for all children and youth in these days of growing concern about societal problems and national …
The Status Of Elementary Libraries In Iowa’S Middle-Sized Schools, Mary Esther Homan
The Status Of Elementary Libraries In Iowa’S Middle-Sized Schools, Mary Esther Homan
Graduate Research Papers
It is the intent of this study to find the current status of centralized libraries in the state of Iowa as it affects the majority (fifty-four per cent) of Iowa's school children. The purpose of the study is three-fold: (1) to determine the degree of centralization achieved by media programs at the elementary level, (2) to
/="/">determine the degree of unification of print and non-print materials in the elementary media program, and (3) to determine the types of personnel presently serving the centers.
Successful Rapport Sessions, James J. Hungerford
Successful Rapport Sessions, James J. Hungerford
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
When the purpose of the "rap" session is not understood there may be considerable waste of time. Often changes occur, but advance questions for student thought are important for success of a session.

Use Of The Video Tape Recorder In The Secondary School, Janet Mcclure
Use Of The Video Tape Recorder In The Secondary School, Janet Mcclure
Graduate Research Papers
This paper has been designed to introduce the processes in using the video tape recorder and will introduce several different ideas for video tape use. In instances where the original research was used in the elementary school it has been so stated and adapted to a secondary situation. Accordingly, ideas used for this paper could in turn be used for the elementary level.
