Quantitative information on chemical and physical properties of soils under aspen and jack pine and chemical properties of peat and water under black spruce and tamarack, is limited. The present study quantifies soil particle size, electrical conductivity (E.C.), water soluble and replaceable calcium (Ca) , magnesium (Mg), potassium (K), sodium (Na) , manganese (Mn) and strontium (Sr) concentrations in soils under aspen and jack pine communities. Aspen was found on alkaline clay soils with high Ca and Mg concentrations, and jack pine grew on wel1-drained, acidic, sandy clay loams high in Mn. An Analysis Of The Piscine Parasitofauna Of Four North Dakota Streams, Daniel R. Sutherland

Analyses of the fish, parasites and water of four North Dakota rivers in the Missouri River and Hudson Ba.y drainages were made. A total of 277 fish representing 13 families was. collected from June 28 through November 2, 1975 from 19 sampling stations on the Missouri River below Garrison Dam, the James River above Jamestown Reservoir, the Sheyenne River above Lake Ashtabula and the entire Wild Rice River. The abiotic factors of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, chlorides, nitrates, nitrites, sulphates, orthophosphates, pH and turbidity were determined for each sampling station using Standard Methods or Hach procedures. Bandura and his colleagues have demonstrated that modeling techniques using fearless "mastery" models can be useful in helping clients overcome irrational fears (Bandura, Grusec and Menlove, 1967; Bandura and Menlove, 1968; Bandura, Blanchard and Ritter, 1969). Later, Meichenbaum (1971) found that initially fearful "coping" models who gradually overcome their fear are more effective than mastery models. However, research on the effects of model status has not investigated coping models. The present study attempted to discern how model status influences the effectiveness of coping models.

Rot&ntiaJ p*ey Ite-ns ol spotted sandpipers (Actms macularia L.) were sampled during the summer ol 1974 on Little Pelican Island , Leech Lake# Cass County* Minnesota. Most abundant terrestrial food items were Dipitera of the families Chironomidae and Sciaridae. Most abundant aquatic organism# were cladocera, copepods, and amphipods of the class Eucrustaeaa. Three large hatches of insects occurred. The first, during the last week of May, was predominantly midges (Chironomidae). The second and the largest occurred during the last week of June and the first week of July. Mayflies (Heptageniidae and Ephemeridae) were most abundant and comprised the majority of …

Undergraduate Theses and Senior Projects

There are several reasons for conducting historical research about the University of North Dakota Honors Program. First of all, a historical perspective is needed to lay the groundwork for any evaluative effort to be undertaken later on. Secondly, the Honors Program has an interesting history worthy of study by itself as well as for the light it sheds on current events on campus. Finally, this author considers the Program to be valuable and feels something of value should be studied and improved.

Work Papers of the Summer Institute of Linguistics, University of North Dakota Session

This thesis is a study in lexicography in the form of a bilingual medical dictionary, containing approximately 1,500 entries. The methodology followed in this study was mainly first-hand field work in conjunction with native speakers of Khmer in the country of Cambodia for a period of over one year (including several months in Thailand), eliciting glosses and compiling definitions in the Cambodian (Khmer) language of English medical terms to be studied by Cambodian nursing students.
