Alterations In Cerebellar Basket, Stellate And Purkinje Cell Dendritic Development Produced By Zinc Deficiency In The Suckling Rat., Christopher Lee Dvergsten

Rat pups suckled to severely zinc deficient mothers from birth were killed at 21 days of age. The cerebella were then examined by light and electron microscopy. Dendritic development was analyzed on Golgi-stained sections both qualitatively and quantitatively. Impaired pup growth, alopecia, hunched back posture and decreased femur zinc were seen in zinc deficient pups. Zinc deficiency impaired cerebellar development. The cerebellum was smaller and had fewer granule cells. The molecular layer was thinner and there was a persistence of the external granule cell layer. The normal cytoarchitecture of the cerebellar cortex was maintained in zinc deficient pups; however, basket, …

To date, most environmental reconstructions of lignite bearing formations in western North Dakota have been done on a formational scale. The objective of this study was to investigate one of the non-lignite intervals, the Kinneman Creek Interval, directly above the strati graphically lowest lignite in the Paleocene Sentinel Butte Formation. The Kinneman Creek Interval has been recognized in the Sentinel Butte Formation throughout most of western North Dakota.

The field area is located in west-central North Dakota in Mercer, Oliver, and McLean Counties and is bisected by the Missouri River. Excellent exposures are provided in the highwalls of Baukol-Noonan, North …

Development Of Transalveolar Fibers In The Mouse Periodontium., Roger Bruce Johnson

Transalveolar fiber development was studied in mandibles of albino mice, aged 12 days postnatal to adult. Light microscopic (LM), scanning electron microscopic (SEM), transmission electron microscopic (TEM), and high-voltage electron microscopic (HVEM) techniques were used. In LM, Wilder's reticular stain revealed transalveolar fibers in the crestal alveolar bone at day 14 and throughout the interdental septum at day 17. Van Gieson's method revealed transalveolar fibers in the crestal alveolar bone at day 19 and throughout the interdental septum at day 25. Differences in staining characteristics of developing transalveolar fibers were interpreted to be caused by persistence of surrounding glycosaminoglycans (GAG).In …

Physical education has been unable to provide a united front to its critics due to rival factions within the profession and the lack of established foci and a logical status of objectives. Problem: The primary purposes of this study was to measure locus of control, psychoticism, extraversion, and neuroticism among alcoholic subjects who were at three different stages of recovery from alcoholism. A second purpose of this study included determining the relationship of race, sex, age, marriage status, and other identification factors to locus of control, psychoticis®, extraversion, and neuroticism in each of the three groups of recovering alcoholics. Atriplex oanescens, a facultatively evergreen dioecious shrub inhabiting cold and warm winter deserts of western United States, was studied at four sites in the Great Basin. The species was commonly a co-dominant in communities throughout its distribution, and was frequently found with other members of the Chenopodiaceae and members of Compositae. It was found to resprout vigorously and experiments indicated that seeds from all sites germinated easily in wetted, well 3 aerated soil. Recent research has consistently shown that life change, as measured by the Social Readjustment Rating Scale, is significantly correlated with the onset of physical and/or psychological problems. Despite their statistical significance these correlations account for very little variance. More recently it has been suggested that personality variables may mediate one's ability to cope with life change. In the present study the relationships between life change and the personality measures of Repression-Sensitization, Sensation-Seeking, Health Locus of Control, State-Trait Anxiety and self reported psychological discomfort (Lanyon's PSI Discomfort subscale) were investigated in a multiple regression analysis.

Data on the disabled in textbooks revealed that more disabled males than disabled females were visible. More adults including senior citizens were depicted as disabled characters. Sixty-seven percent of the disabilities were physical in origin. Nearly 70 percent of the disabled characters were Caucasian. Characterization and language were generally positive.

Analysis of flock characteristics indicated paired and unpaired gadwall remained partially segregated and that pairs were dominant over unpaired gadwall. Pairs were involved in less agonistic activity and remained at greater distances from other birds than unpaired gadwall. The major purpose of this study was to determine if participation in a life career planning course would significantly increase participants' self-esteem and career maturity and change participants' sex-role stereotypes, as measured by Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale, the Texas Social Behavior Inventory, the Career Maturity Inventory, and the Personal Attributes Questionnaire. Another purpose of the study was to determine if self-esteem, as measured by the RSE, was positively related to a second self-esteem measure, career maturity, and sex-role stereotypes, as measured by scores on the TSBI, the CMI, and the PAQ, respectively. The Pine Portage gold prospect is located in Kirkup Township approximately 12 kilometers east of Kenora, Ontario. The mine site is within the Wabigoon Subprovince of the Superior Province of the Precambrian Shield. The area is characterized by belts of metavolcanics in the amphibolite metamorphic facies that have been intruded by granitic bodies.

Reconnaissance mapping indicates three rock types present in the study area: amphibolite, granodiorite, and vein material. The amphibolite is composed of amphibole, plagioclase, chlorite, and clinozoisite. The granodiorite is composed of plagioclase, alkali feldspar, quartz, biotite, and epidote. The vein material is predominantly quartz-carbonate and contains altered …
