Place Names In Israeli Sign Language, Bettina Revilla
Place Names In Israeli Sign Language, Bettina Revilla
Theses and Dissertations
One of the obstacles in translating the Hebrew Scriptures into sign language is the lack of signs for Biblical places in most sign languages of the world. What solutions are there? One possibility is to borrow existing signs for Biblical places from another sign language, particularly from Israeli Sign Language, since Israeli Deaf already have signs for the places where they live.
There is a trend towards borrowing foreign place name signs (toponyms), especially when a language does not have a sign. This research provides a corpus of Israeli Sign Language (ISL) toponyms for ninety-two place names, documenting in photos …
Secondary Student And Teacher Perceptions Of Building Relationships For Personalizing Education, Greg S. Grooters
Secondary Student And Teacher Perceptions Of Building Relationships For Personalizing Education, Greg S. Grooters
Theses and Dissertations
Increased accountability, due to No Child Left Behind Act (2001), has brought a sharp focus on America's schools. Through school initiatives, yearly progress reports, and testing, public schools continue to identify potential areas of improvement. The study's purpose was to identify the perceptions of high school students and teachers regarding student and teacher relationships effecting the personalization of learning at West Fargo High School. The West Fargo High School teachers and students (grades 9-12) completed parallel on-line surveys in the winter of 2006. All of the students completed the survey on-line with anonymous accounts. The teacher's survey was administered through …

A Protocol For Occupational Therapy Involvement In The Response To Intervention Model, Nicole Bolinger
A Protocol For Occupational Therapy Involvement In The Response To Intervention Model, Nicole Bolinger
Occupational Therapy Capstones
In order to provide effective occupational therapy services to children within the school-based practice setting, it is important to be knowledgeable regarding the current theories and educational models which drive the educational system. Also, it is imperative that school-based occupational therapy practitioners understand the educational models and how they may impact the way occupational therapists deliver services. Chandler (2007) states, "an initiative is gathering momentum that has the potential to significantly change the way occupational therapists practice in the public school" (p. 7). Occupational therapy may have an opportunity to expand their services through a model called Response to Intervention. …

A Guide To Integrating Cots Games Into Your Classroom, Richard Van Eck
A Guide To Integrating Cots Games Into Your Classroom, Richard Van Eck
Teaching, Leadership & Professional Practice Faculty Publications
Many of the educational outcomes we seek to promote in public education, such as problem solving and critical thinking, are difficult to achieve given the constraints of the real-world classroom. Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) games make excellent tools for addressing both content-based and higher-order learning outcomes, and many educators are exploring their use in the classroom. But making effective use of commercial games in the classroom requires that we understand how games function in relation to the typical instructional strategies and practices of the classroom. The first part of this chapter will examine the theories that underlie the successful integration of …

Teacher And Technology: How Faculty Resource Centers Can Enhance Higher Education Teaching And Learning, John T. Freden
Theses and Dissertations
As many classrooms around the world utilize instructional technology to attempt to enhance student learning, the faculty resource centers that support this instructional technology are sometimes left out of the equation. This study asks the question "What can faculty resource centers do to help teachers integrate instructional technology to improve student learning?" To help answer this question surveys were sent out to educators at two different higher education institutions. Questions were asked in a survey about the educators' background information, instructional technology, and faculty resource centers. The , information gathered from this survey is useful to faculty resource centers as …

The Professional Development Of Teachers For International Contexts: A Case Study Of Concordia Language Villages' Study Abroad Programs, Michelle L. Thomas
Theses and Dissertations
In the face of globalization, educational institutions the world over have developed institutional learning outcomes that seek to graduate students who are culturally competent. To accomplish this goal, colleges and schools must have a faculty who is prepared to facilitate student growth in this regard or provide the faculty with professional development opportunities to achieve that end.
Concordia Language Villages, an intensive language and culture education program sponsored by Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, is intentional in its mission to prepare young people for responsible citizenship and has professional development opportunities available to personnel in their programs and educators; however, …
