In Squatter Life, sociologist Javier Auyero and anthropologist Sofía Servián examine how Argentina’s urban poor navigate everyday survival amid state neglect and structural violence. Drawing on three years of ethnographic fieldwork and Servián’s lived experience in a squatter settlement, the book reveals the precarious strategies—exploitative labor, patronage, and reciprocal networks, sometimes involving illicit exchange—that sustain life on the margins. Population Health Research and Scholarship

Generative AI is rapidly entering academic workflows, yet readiness to use these tools in graduate training and the workplace remains unclear. The SPARTA AI was administered online to faculty and graduate students in the University of New Mexico’s Psychology Department and COPH (Feb–Sep 2025). The analytic sample included N=37 respondents. Descriptives, role-stratified academic AI usage, one-sample tests of perceived preparedness vs a 3.0 midpoint, and correlations between AI interest and academic usage were computed; Wilson CIs were used for proportions. The sample comprised 20 faculty and 17 graduate students, primarily from COPH and Psychology. AI usage was generally infrequent across …

Antenna systems are a cornerstone of modern technologies, playing an increasingly vital role in their advancement. As demand for compact, high-performance, and adaptable communication platforms grows reconfigurable antenna technologies are becoming essential. This research explores a novel front-end reconfigurable antenna system (FERAS) architecture that leverages the mechanical flexibility and photoconductive behavior of semiconductor nanomembrane (SNM) devices. By exploiting the emergent properties of ultra-thin silicon (Si) or gallium arsenide (GaAs) nanomaterials and optically exciting these samples using vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) arrays, this study develops lightweight, low-cost, deployable antenna structures for satellite communications, remote sensing, GPS, and radar. SNAP-Ed NM works to provide nutrition and physical activity education, environmental and systems changes, and social marketing among primarily SNAP-eligible populations to empower them to make healthy food choices and become more physically active. In May 2025, the SNAP-Ed evaluation team from the UNM Prevention Research Center (PRC) conducted a survey involving five implementing agencies and the state agency overseeing SNAP-Ed. The purpose of this survey was to evaluate engagement with Tribal communities and to assess any changes in engagement since the prior assessment in FY2023. This project chronicles the emergence of Arte Público Press, the most successful Latinx press over the past five decades, highlighting its different periods of growth as a nonprofit press, along with some of its key authors and contributions that have shaped the field of Latinx literary studies. In his role as founder and editor of Arte Público, Nicolás Kanellos contributed to the publication of now-canonical authors such as Tomás Rivera, Rolando Hinojosa, Tato Laviera, Sandra Cisneros, and Helena María Viramontes.
