Clinical Diagnostics And Treatment Strategies For Philadelphia Chromosome-Like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Richard C. Harvey, Sarah K. Tasian Jan 2020

Clinical Diagnostics And Treatment Strategies For Philadelphia Chromosome-Like Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Richard C. Harvey, Sarah K. Tasian

Pathology Research and Scholarship

Philadelphia chromosome-like B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-like ALL) accounts for 15% to 30% of B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in older children, adolescents, and adults and is associated with high rates of conventional treatment failure and relapse. Current clinical trials are assessing the efficacy of the addition of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) to chemotherapy for children and adults with Ph-like ALL harboring ABL class translocations or CRLF2 rearrangements and other JAK pathway alterations. However, real-time diagnosis of patients can be quite challenging given the genetic heterogeneity of this disease and the often cytogenetically cryptic nature of Ph-like ALL-associated alterations. In this …

Approaches To Urban Land Use Governance: Conservation Or Housing Development?, Zlata Nourie

Public Administration ETDs

Around the globe cities are growing and expanding in size. The increase in urban areas changes the face of our planet. Since every city, county, and state have a set amount of land that they can conserve or develop, this thesis investigates factors that impact land conservation or land development for housing. It also establishes the relations between land use, economic, social, and environmental processes in the selected area. From the very beginning, this paper researches different approaches to land use that help municipalities maintain and use their land resources.

The focus of this research is an area of land …

Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Caused By Hepatopulmonary Fusion, Sonal Patel, Jennifer Rael Jan 2020

Right-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Caused By Hepatopulmonary Fusion, Sonal Patel, Jennifer Rael

Pediatrics Research and Scholarship

INTRODUCTION: Hepatopulmonary fusion is a very rare finding associated with right-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. With less than 50 reported cases, management and outcomes of hepatopulmonary fusion are poorly understood. This report highlights that clinical presentation is not a reliable indicator of outcomes in this rare disease.

CONCLUSIONS: Many patients with hepatopulmonary fusion and only mild symptoms die postoperatively from severe pulmonary hypertension and progressive respiratory failure. Preoperative clinical status is not indicative of postoperative outcomes, and literature suggests that patients who require less support preoperatively have high mortality rates. The availability of ECMO for postoperative complications may be necessary in …

Immigration is at the forefront of national, state, and local policy struggles in the United States, and Latinx/@ immigrants have experienced increased deportations, detention, and individual threats. A mobilities perspective allows analysis to extend our view of migration beyond frameworks confined to pre- and postmigration, examining trajectories of social inclusion and exclusion that are influenced by multiple factors in the receiving country. The Immigrant Well-being Project, a community-based participatory research project involving university faculty, students, staff, and representatives from 4 community-based organizations (CBOs), was initiated in New Mexico in 2017 to better understand and promote Latinx/@ immigrant mental health and …

Project ECHO Bibliography

Introduction While early psychosis intervention (EPI) has proliferated in recent years amid evidence of its effectiveness, programmes often struggle to deliver consistent, recovery-based care. NAVIGATE is a manualised model of EPI with demonstrated effectiveness consisting of four components: individualised medication management, individual resiliency training, supported employment and education and family education. We aim to implement NAVIGATE in geographically diverse EPI programmes in Ontario, Canada, evaluating implementation and its effect on fidelity to the EPI model, as well as individual-level outcomes (patient/family member-reported and interviewer-rated), system-level outcomes (captured in provincial administrative databases) and engagement of participants with lived experience.

Perinatal Opioid Exposure Primes The Peripheral Immune System Toward Hyperreactivity, Jessie Newville, Jessie R Maxwell, Yuma Kitase, Shenandoah Robinson, Lauren L Jantzie

Pediatrics Research and Scholarship

The increased incidence of opioid use during pregnancy warrants investigation to reveal the impact of opioid exposure on the developing fetus. Exposure during critical periods of development could have enduring consequences for affected individuals. Particularly, evidence is mounting that developmental injury can result in immune priming, whereby subsequent immune activation elicits an exaggerated immune response. This maladaptive hypersensitivity to immune challenge perpetuates dysregulated inflammatory signaling and poor health outcomes. Utilizing an established preclinical rat model of perinatal methadone exposure, we sought to investigate the consequences of developmental opioid exposure on

Bringing Relevance Back To Consumer Bankruptcy, Nathalie Martin

Faculty Scholarship

The Seventeenth Annual Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal Symposium

This Paper presumes that readers want to make bankruptcy more useful for consumers and for society as a whole. If this is true, we need to ask two questions: first, what do individual consumers hope to get out of the system, and second, what does society hope to get out of the system?

Part I of this Paper discusses the increase in debt over the last two decades, the growing wage and income gap, growing debt inequality and race, and the fall of the CFPB, all justifications for using the bankruptcy system …

Remaking Environmental Justice, Clifford Villa Jan 2020

Remaking Environmental Justice, Clifford Villa

Faculty Scholarship

From movements for civil rights in the 1960s and environmental protection in the 1970s, the environmental justice movement emerged in the 1980s and 1990s to highlight the disparate impacts of pollution, principally upon people of color and low-income communities. Over time, the scope of environmental justice expanded to address concerns for other dimensions of diversity. New and continuing challenges tell us that we need to reframe our understanding of environmental justice to ensure better protection for people going forward. One way to reframe this understanding may be to apply the heuristic of vulnerability analysis as proposed by legal theorist Martha …

Seismic Visibility Of Eclogite In The Earth’S Upper Mantle – Implications From High Pressure-Temperature Single-Crystal Elastic Properties Of Omphacite, Ming Hao, Jin S. Zhang, Wen-Yi Zhou, Qin Wang Jan 2020

Seismic Visibility Of Eclogite In The Earth’S Upper Mantle – Implications From High Pressure-Temperature Single-Crystal Elastic Properties Of Omphacite, Ming Hao, Jin S. Zhang, Wen-Yi Zhou, Qin Wang

Earth and Planetary Sciences Faculty and Staff Publications

Eclogite, constituting the subducted crust, is one of the most important geochemical and geophysical heterogeneities in the Earth’s mantle. As the dominant anisotropic phase in eclogite, precise high pressure-temperature single-crystal elastic properties of omphacite provides the basis for detecting eclogite in the Earth’s upper mantle. In this study, we measured the single-crystal elastic moduli of omphacite up to 18 GPa and 700 K using Brillouin spectroscopy. A least-squares fit to a third-order finite strain equation of state yields KS0’=4.5(1), G0’=1.53(5), ∂KS0/∂T=-0.029(5) GPa/K, ∂G0/∂T=-0.013(5) GPa/K, with ρ0=3.34(1) g/cm3, K …

Getting Past Possession: Subsurface Property Disputes As Nuisances, Joseph A. Schremmer Jan 2020

Getting Past Possession: Subsurface Property Disputes As Nuisances, Joseph A. Schremmer

Faculty Scholarship

Property rights in the subsurface of land are adapting to accommodate modern activities like massive hydraulic fracturing (fracing). Property rights will need to continue adapting if they are to accommodate other developing activities like large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS). Courts and commentators rarely approach the nature of subsurface property directly. They tend instead to discuss appropriate standards for tort liability when disputes arise—for example when artificial fissures from a frac treatment extend into and drain oil or gas from a neighbor’s land. The case law and literature generally approach unauthorized subterranean invasions as trespasses. Because the tort of trespass …

Implementation Of The Hub And Spoke Model For Opioid Use Disorders In California: Rationale, Design And Anticipated Impact., Gloria M. Miele, Lauren Caton, Thomas E. Freese, Mark Mcgovern, Kendall Darfler, Valerie Pearce Antonini, Marlies Perez, Richard Rawson

Project ECHO Bibliography

As part of the State Targeted Response to the opioid epidemic, California has adopted the Hub and Spoke model to expand access to medications for opioid use disorder, particularly buprenorphine, throughout the state. By aligning opioid treatment programs as hubs with primary care, office-based practitioners, and other health care settings as spokes, a broader treatment model can reach more people with opioid use disorder, improve access to medications for opioid use disorders, and decrease overdose deaths. Expanding access requires expanding knowledge and intensive implementation support of new practices. This paper describes the rationale, specific activities and anticipated impact of the …
