A Historical Analysis Of The Squatter Settlements (Sukumbasi) In Nepal And The Role Of Smart Settlements, Keshav Bhattarai, Ambika P. Adhikari
Himalayan Research Papers Archive
In Nepal, landless populations can broadly be categorized into two groups: urban squatters and rural landless families. Each group can further be distinguished by its level of political connection and access to power.
Among urban squatters, politically connected groups often occupy open public spaces in cities with some degree of protection or tolerance from political parties. In contrast, less powerful urban squatters usually settle on public land because they cannot afford formal housing. These settlements are commonly located in unsafe or marginal areas, such as riverbanks, flood-prone zones, and unused public spaces. Despite these risks, many remain in urban areas …

Cobalt's Climate Paradox: Global Ambitions For A Greener Future Rely On Blood-Stained Hands, Ashleigh Wootton
Cobalt's Climate Paradox: Global Ambitions For A Greener Future Rely On Blood-Stained Hands, Ashleigh Wootton
Natural Resources Journal
The global effort to mitigate climate change increasingly relies on widespread electrification, with lithium-ion batteries at its core and the key minerals required for their production concentrated in countries uniquely vulnerable to exploitation. Lithium-ion battery production relies heavily on cobalt, a critical mineral primarily sourced from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which supplies approximately 70 percent of the world’s cobalt. As demand for cobalt is projected to rise sharply, the DRC has become indispensable to the global clean energy transition. Cobalt extraction in the DRC is closely linked to severe human rights abuses, including forced labor, child labor, …

Considerations For Assigned Water After Expiration Of The 2007 Guidelines, Kathryn Sorensen, Sarah Porter, Anne Castle, John Fleck, Eric Kuhn, Jack Schmidt, Katherine Tara
The Traveling Wilburys of the Colorado River
As Colorado River supplies and demands reach razor-thin margins, new tools to provide adaptive capacity will play a critical role in sustaining communities across the West. We must reduce our consumption of water, while finding ways to cushion the impact. One of the most innovative tools for doing this, developed over the last two decades, is “Assigned Water” - giving users the ability to store conserved water earmarked for their own future use. Originally developed as “Intentionally Created Surplus” in the 2007 Colorado River Interim Guidelines, Assigned Water has been revised and expanded through U.S. Mexico Treaty Minutes and as …

Perceptions Of Inclusion In Disability Communication With Plithogenic Fuzzy Soft Sets, Sonia Guerra Iglesias, Andrea Eugenia Pacheco Lemus, Vallardo Villegas-Ricauter, Lorena Del Carmen Bodero Arizaga, Luis Enrique Silva Adriano
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article explores how scientific communication with disability can foster social inclusion through an awareness of the challenge of conveying ambiguous perceptions across fields. This is a timely topic because inclusive communication facilitates equity and subsequent participation in academic and socio-cultural settings by persons with disabilities; however, the existing body of literature does not take an approach that represents an intrinsic indeterminacy of human perceptions. Absent this intrinsic human quality, research results oversimplify abilities and failures to include persons with disabilities. My approach fulfills this gap by using plitogenic fuzzy soft sets, which is a more generalized mathematical construct to …

Study Of Victimization And Perception Of Insecurity In Ecuador: Application Of Hybrid Models With Logistic Regression, Machine Learning, And Neutrosophy, Lorenzo Cevallos-Torres, Mauro M. F. Mediano
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Given the victim's rising profile in contemporary victimology and criminology, this study examines victimization and the impact of perceived insecurity, paying particular attention to the situation in Ecuador, where reports of crime and violence in urban areas are on the rise. The overarching goal is to create a reliable model for victimization risk assessment that may also serve as an analytical tool for public policymaking and preventative efforts. One step is to build a classic logistic regression model that takes into account variables like age, sex, education level, occupational category, and level of physical activity. The goal is to understand …

This dissertation answers a problem of practice. What is the effect of Universal Design for Learning on equity and achievement in math for at-risk and special needs upper elementary and secondary students in Ecuador? classrooms are more diverse than ever, with variations in learning styles and the expectation of equity in the classroom. Thus, it's critical to address past and present methods of teaching that promote access and participation. While the implementation of Universal Design for Learning is relatively new to the inclusion game, the studies done thus far fail to incorporate a triangulated design that considers complexity, multivariate factors, …

Artificial Intelligence For Smes In The Dominican Republic: A Strategic Neutrosophic Pest-Swot Analysis To Navigate Uncertainty, Karina Pérez Teruel
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study examines the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Dominican Republic SMEs through a PESTLE-neutrosophic analysis. PESTLE stands for Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Legal and Environmental factors. Neutrosophic is the Philosophy of Indeterminacy. Therefore, we focus on the factors relative to AI adoption in the Dominican Republic—specifiers to the benefits and drawbacks, as well as, the unknowns of operating with AI—with the intention of illuminating attention. The findings support a phased approach for SMEs to view indeterminacy as an opportunity for competitive advantage through improved operational efficiencies, enhanced customer experience, and more informed decision-making. Ultimately, the results position AI …

Triadic Dynamics Of Clinical Decisions In Apical Surgery Based On Neutrosophic N-Alectic, Emma Arroyo Lalama, Edison Haro Pujos
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study explored the creation of a clinical decision-making model in apical surgery via Neutrosophic N-Alectic, blending affirmative (operate), negative (observe), and neutral (retry conventional endodontics) based on equivocal findings to offer potential solutions to the presentation of periapical lesions. The methodology consisted of dialectic considerations of previous surgeries retrospectively, meaning attributable elements such as lesion severity and response to previous treatment were assessed via a neutrosophic approach to assess the degree of truth, degree of falsity and degree of indeterminacy across all treatment options. The main findings are the neutrosophic model assists in determining the best decisions based on …

Classification Of Cases Of Animal Abuse In Ecuador Using Indetermsoft And C4.5 Algorithms, Viviana Del Rocío Marfetan Marfetan, Lesly Gissela Tipanguano Chicaiza, Styven Andrés Pila Chicaiza, Estephany Monserrath Ojeda Sanchez
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This dissertation aimed to determine the classification of animal abuse within Ecuador by severity, context, and solution through the application of IndetermSoft and the statistical-neutrosophic C4.5 algorithm to classify the uncertainty associated with judicial and administrative efforts for animal protection for domestic dogs and cats. The approach was qualitative and documentary, analyzing judicial sentences, citizen complaints, and municipal ordinances within the three largest Ecuadorian cities of Quito, Guayaquil, and Cuenca to acquire the determination of classifications of animal abuse, subsequent sanctions, and follow-ups. A modeling of IndetermSoft ensembles assessed the indeterminacy of subsequent actions, and inputted into IndetermSoft and the …
Neutrosophic Plithogenic Hypotheses On Bacterial Resistance To Conventional And Laser-Assisted Treatments, Emma Arroyo Lalama, Edison Haro Pujos
Neutrosophic Plithogenic Hypotheses On Bacterial Resistance To Conventional And Laser-Assisted Treatments, Emma Arroyo Lalama, Edison Haro Pujos
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Enterococcus faecalis is a common endodontic pathogen that causes unsuccessful treatments because standard methods of debridement cannot remove it from the root canal system. Methods of debridement are effective relative to debriding multifactorial bacterial biofilms in apical pathogens. Therefore, neutrosophic plithogenic hypotheses are proposed to measure the uncertainty and variability of the bacterial response. Therefore, this work attempted to determine the impact of laser treatment (diode and Er:YAG) as an adjunct agent relative to and in conjunction with traditional irrigants in the reduction of E. faecalis. The diode and Er:YAG laser support increased disinfection efficacy over standard irrigants as they …

A Visual Aid-Based Model For Constructing The Concept Of Probability For Students Aged 9 To 11, Validated Using Neutrosophic Plithogenic Statistics, Nela Del Rocío Sánchez López, Diana Carolina Pérez Duarte, Luis Fernando Pérez Duarte
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article discusses a research endeavor whose intent was to further develop statistical reasoning by formulating probability notions for 9-11-year-old learners. The probability endeavor is formulated through a union of narrative, problem-solving and visual approaches. Action research allowed for formulation and implementation within a school setting, satisfactorily proving success in developing learners' abilities to think logically and critically. Results indicate a statistically significant probability of appropriating the notion of probability based on neutrosophic plithogenic statistics which assessed the degree of truth, indeterminacy, and falsity of student answers which ultimately promote rational decisions in uncertain situations. It's recommended that the union …

Artificial Intelligence In Cuban Audiovisual Production: An Approach To Technological Sovereignty Evaluated Through Neutrosophic Pest-Foda Analysis, Natalia Del Carmen Díaz Riverón
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article aims to respond to the need to generate a public policy for the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI) use in Cuban audiovisuals from technological sovereignty through a neutrosophic PEST-SWOT analysis. After a theoretical-contextual study composed of the history of AI, its scientific and technological bases and the ethical and regulatory issues of use, international experiences and studies and the current state of affairs in Cuba (comprised of technology based barriers, training impediments and absence of a specific regulatory approach), the research takes place through triangulation via a mixed-methodology where theoretical and empirical approaches are integrated with neutrosophic PEST-SWOT …

Integrating Normative Coherence Into Judicial Hermeneutics Through The Neutrosophic Hierarchical Analytic Process: An Ethical Approach To Justice, Carmen Marina Méndez Cabrita, Josía Jeseff Isea Argüelles, Teresa De Jesús Molina Gutiérrez, Jesús Alfredo Morales Carrero
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This article answers the need to ensure normative coherence in hermeneutics exercised by judges and aims to investigate how a judge's decision can be in line with ethical justice values and formal justice values when uncertainty is concerned. This article is significant and timely because the current state of globalized legal systems calls for judges who can render the expected outcome but also an application of law that supports ethical justice values to enhance the legitimacy of any judicial system and community confidence in authority. While other scholarly contributions to the field of legal hermeneutics—from Vigo—credit a great deal to …

Multidimensional Analysis Of Student Loyalty Using The Neutrosophic Biplot Method For Retention Strategies In Higher Education, Claudio Ruff, Marcelo Ruiz, Alexis Matheu, Bastián Gutiérrez, Luis Benites, Gerardo Anabalón
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Student loyalty in higher education represents a critical challenge for universities, particularly in the context of increasing competition and the need to ensure long-term retention. A key question arises: how can student loyalty be modeled when it is shaped by diverse and subjective perceptions? The relevance of this issue lies in its impact on institutional stability: when students withdraw before completing their programs, universities not only lose projected revenue but also face disruptions that may negatively influence academic rankings. Previous literature has explored drivers of satisfaction and determinants of loyalty; however, little attention has been given to approaches that explicitly …
Modeling The Rehabilitation Of Offenders In Domestic Violence Using A Hybrid Neutrosophic-Logistic Approach To Reduce Recidivism, Johanna Estefanía Calle Imbaquingo, Karen Milagros Díaz Salambay, Jordy Alexis Vargas Yumbo, Kevin Christopher Carrasco Azogue, Otto F. Von Feigenblatt
Modeling The Rehabilitation Of Offenders In Domestic Violence Using A Hybrid Neutrosophic-Logistic Approach To Reduce Recidivism, Johanna Estefanía Calle Imbaquingo, Karen Milagros Díaz Salambay, Jordy Alexis Vargas Yumbo, Kevin Christopher Carrasco Azogue, Otto F. Von Feigenblatt
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This dissertation seeks to determine if criminal suspension—per Article 651.3 of National Criminal Code (COIP)—for domestic violence offenders in Ecuador actually reduces recidivism through effective rehabilitation. This study is significant for comprehension of offender mentality and subsequent ability to accept criminal punishment to reduce recidivism for prolonged victim safety and better acts of authority in a country where domestic violence is still a major social concern. While the existing literature has studied aspects of restorative justice, very few articles have explored the predicating factors of recidivism and the lack of judicial observation and databases due to a neoteric nature and …

Failure To Appear In Procedural Courts In The Ecuadorian Oral System: Analysis Of Its Legal Implications Through Multineutrosophic Modeling, Klever Israel Llerena Villacrés, Alex Santiago Páez Maldonado, Leonardo Mario Falconí Cárdenas
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study intends to analyze the impact of not appearing as a legal consequence of the Ecuadorian oral system; in what way does it violate rights of the parties and the possibility of effective judicial protection? The study was developed through a mixed methodology, bibliographic-documentary design and empirical field study. Ultimately, Multineutrosophic modeling was used to limit uncertainty brought forth by establishing not appearing as a condition with lawyer presence, granted extensions or not, socioeconomic problems, etc., through a triangulation of findings from regulatory sources like the General Organic Code of Procedures (COGEP) and professionalizing interviews with judicial actors. The …

Prioritizing Penal Reforms For Adolescents In Ecuador: Using Neutrosophic Topsis And Hausdorff Distance, Mesías Elías Machado Maliza, Oscar Gonzalo Jácome Merino, Luis Ramiro Ayala Ayala, José Milton Jiménez Montenegro, Otto F. Von Feigenblatt
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This question builds upon the issue of Ecuador's minors not being liable as growing juvenile delinquents and those between 16-18 not receiving punishment for their actions will only foster more juvenile delinquents and complicate public safety and socio-protective efforts. This question is increasingly urgent given the recent upsurge in juvenile delinquency—grave crimes—and the vulnerable balance that exists between juvenile rights and social equity. While the literature is rich regarding the phenomenon of juvenile crime and delinquency, very few offer a truly feasible methodology that integrates equity, punishment, and social responsibility given the assessed social reality. Therefore, the neutrosophic TOPSIS method …

Identification Of Critical Pollution Factors In The Chibunga River Using Indetermsoft Ensembles And The C4.5 Decision-Making Algorithm, Mesías Elías Machado Maliza, Gabriela Alejandra Rojas Chávez, Karen Andrea Cayancela Arequipa, María José Calderón Velázquez
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This dissertation fills a gap by assessing what aspects pollute the Chibunga River of Riobamba, Ecuador, which is becoming increasingly polluted. Pollution is a growing source of concern for ecosystems and human health, so assessing what factors is important. Applicable to an increasingly querulous society where river pollution has led to legal ramifications in Ecuador's Monjas and Machángara Rivers, creating a need for more protections and preventative measures makes this study relevant. The literature review cites established studies that have assessed river pollution occurrences similar to the Chibunga River. Still, none have assessed the concern via a truly indeterminate/incomplete approach …

Technarrative Model (Ntm) For The Symbolic-Emotional Evaluation Of Architectural Space: A Neutrosophic Multiperspectivism Approach, Jesús Rafael Hechavarría-Hernández, Ana María Padrón-Medina, Erika Ascencio Jordán
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This research answers the need to evaluate an architectural space from a non-technical standpoint relative to its symbolism/emotion charge that is not taken into account by the design/planning of such public spaces. This research problem is sociologically relevant as today; architecture does not only dictate the layout of the physical world but also the group existence, sensitivity to experiences and modes of social appropriation. Yet the state-of- the-art literature provides purely professional and empirical avenues of investigation driven by economic/aesthetic value with no pathway for understanding appreciation of ambiguity and the multiple perspectives at play. Thus, a Neutrosophic Technarrative Model …

Hyperbolic Geometry And Neutrosophic Trigonometry: A Unified Approach To Uncertainty Management In Geometric Spaces, Yismandry González Vargas, Diana Padrón Carrasco
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This paper addresses the challenge of modeling uncertainty in hyperbolic geometry, where non-Euclidean properties, such as angle sums in triangles smaller than 180°, complicate traditional trigonometric calculations. The relevance of this topic lies in its application in fields such as cosmology, robotics, and signal processing, where curved spaces and imprecision are common. Although the literature has explored fuzzy geometry and trigonometry under uncertainty, it lacks a framework that integrates negative curvature with explicit indeterminacy. To overcome this gap, a methodology is proposed that combines hyperbolic geometry with neutrosophic trigonometry, using neutrosophic sets (T, I, F) to represent angles and calculate …
