Form-Meaning Mappings Of Cyclic Gestures, Wilho Macneil
Linguistics ETDs
Hirrel (2018) examines form-meaning mappings between speech and co-articulated cyclic gestures, identifying meanings associated with such gestures. To test replicability, this thesis analyzes two functional-semantic domains: modification (adverbs, quantifiers) and morphosyntactic constructions (complex sentences, English Progressive) and their relationship to cyclic gestures. About 12 hours of video was coded in ELAN for cyclic gestures (n=586) and analyzed textually for speech instances (n=1919) of target constructions. Contrary to Hirrel’s predictions, cyclic gestures were not more commonly co-articulated with adverbs than quantifiers and were also not more commonly co-articulated with complex sentences than the English Progressive Construction. The seventh edition of Tort Law and Practice continues to provide a rich and inclusive context for the study of tort law fundamentals and underlying policies. The evaluation of an excellent football player's performance abilities involves assessing their overall capabilities based on in-game performance. Key evaluation dimensions include technical skills (such as passing, shooting, dribbling, etc.), tactical awareness, physical fitness, mental resilience, and teamwork. Through data analysis, video review, and coach feedback, the player's impact and contribution to the game are comprehensively evaluated, helping to determine their actual level in matches and provide guidance for future development. Philosophy, long defined by its pursuit of truth, has historically been a battleground for dichotomies: truth vs. falsehood, materialism vs. idealism, reason vs. emotion. These oppositions often provide a framework for understanding philosophical discourse, but they fail to capture the full nuances of reality. To challenge these binary oppositions, I introduced the neutrosophic perspective in philosophy, rooted in Mathematics, and Many-Valued Logics.1 By emphasizing the interrelation of affirmation, negation, and neutrality, neutrosophy allows for the reconciliation of seemingly irreconcilable viewpoints, providing a new lens through which to reinterpret age-old philosophical questions.

When Emotions Flare: Solar Rhythms, Emotions And Cycles Of Political Revolution, Andreas Hernandez, Carolina Zilli Vieira, Alexandra Smith, Rebecca Olson

Revolutions are among the most transformative events in human history. Analyzing 395 revolutionary episodes from 1900 to 2014, we find that major waves cluster around solar maxima - periods of intensified geomagnetic activity. Drawing on biomedical research linking geomagnetic disturbances to cardiovascular and stress regulation, and thus to emotional states, we propose that solar cycles modulate the affective ecologies within which revolutions arise. Solar activity may accelerate, shape, and amplify revolutionary cycles by heightening emotional climates and tipping fragile systems toward mass mobilization. The National Environmental Policy Act (“NEPA”) tasks the government with fully analyzing the environmental consequences of the actions it plans to take before those actions can be performed. This procedural function of NEPA is much maligned by the development community for imposing paralyzingly high costs on government action. At the same time, the statute is disparaged by environmentalists as a toothless and ineffective tool which cannot compel the government to conform its actions to the environment’s best interests. Concepts such as Fuzzy Sets [28,57],Neutrosophic Sets [42,44], and Plithogenic Sets [48] have been extensively studied to address uncertainty, finding diverse applications across various fields. The Soft Set provides a framework that associates each parameter with subsets of a universal set, enabling flexible approximations [31]. The TreeSoft Set extends the Soft Set by introducing hierarchical, tree-structured parameters, allowing for multi-level data representation [53]. This paper introduces an extension to the Python Neutrosophic Sets (PYNS) framework, originally detailed in [13], with the addition of the NSfamily class for constructing and manipulating neutrosophic topologies. Building on existing classes like NSuniverse and NSset, the NSfamily class enables the definition and testing of neutrosophic families as basis and sub-basis for neutrosophic topological spaces. This extension provides tools for verifying closure properties under union and intersection, and for determining whether a given family constitutes a neutrosophic topology. This paper seeks to address 4-dimensional transportation challenges by integrating budget con straints, vehicle speed, carbon emissions, and optimizing for maximum profit and minimum time. The rising number of vehicles, varying road conditions, and diverse vehicle types used to meet daily needs have exacerbated issues like global warming and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Modelling atmospheric loss is fundamental to implementation of future mm-wave terrestrial and earth space communication links. Atmospheric losses have traditionally been estimated by calculating the contributions of individual weather phenomena through in-situ meteorological measurements and statistically derived models for estimating localized atmospheric water content. Collecting data for all points along the propagation path and calculating the physical effects of gases, clouds, and precipitation individually is both time consuming and impractical for large-scale use cases.

Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF) can lead to tumor regression through its direct cytolytic activity, yet it has also been implicated to facilitate tumor progression. This scenario complicates the efficacy and applicability of TNF based therapeutics as treatment for malignancies. In the context of oncolytic virotherapy (OV) which uses replicating viruses to treat tumors and acts by triggering production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, exploring such mechanisms is vital. This research examines the visual and textual representations of Indigenous women in colonial New Spain and early independent Mexico (1521–1830), revealing how these images evolved alongside dynamic colonial political, social, and cultural shifts. Through an analysis of codices, portraits, and other material culture, this study demonstrates how colonial authorities, artists, and patrons manipulated these depictions to serve wider colonial agendas, from evangelization to social stratification. These representations often used Indigenous women as symbols, rather than as individual subjects, to reinforce hierarchical colonial structures, shape racial and gender identities, and support efforts to ‘civilize’ the native population. In the emerging landscape of Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) networks, achieving energy efficiency while concurrently performing sensing and communication tasks remains challenging. This paper introduces a new framework, a novel solution that empowers User Equipment (UEs) to make informed decisions regarding their transmission power allocation, optimizing the energy efficiency of sensing, communication, and data reporting to the gNB (gNodeB) functions. The Social Matter of Opioids: Glitches in Immunity Beyond the Human examines the contemporary opioid crisis and its relationship to capitalism, imperialism, and biomedicine. This dissertation also considers how the twin processes of crisis and racialization relate to how human-opioid entanglements perform and transgress normative anthropological assumptions of difference. Through theories of biopolitics, Black feminism, queer of color critique, and psychoanalytic insight, I argue for a more critical account of the entanglement of humans with opioids where processes of capitalist and imperial crisis produce novel forms of social ontology. Despite the prevalence of unfilled special education teaching positions nationwide, it is fair to ask whether there is truly a shortage of special education teachers (SETs). While SETs leave education at high rates, they are almost twice as likely to transfer to general education positions. Many former SETs are employed in schools yet outside of special education.

International borders not only serve as the edge of a nation-state's sovereign territory, but they also aid in informing popular conceptions of its national identity. This study examines how the Mexico - U.S. border served as a spark for episodes of American nationalism from 1821-1920. In examining three historical periods whereby the border was forming, disrupted, or challenged, I demonstrate how borders serve as sources, both symbolically and physically for the expressions of American nationalism. Determinants Of Child Care Subsidy Policies In The American States: A Mixed-Method Investigation In The Era Of Covid-19, Hailey Heinz

This mixed-method dissertation investigates policy variation in states’ administration of the federal child care subsidy program (CCDF). The quantitative chapters draw on a 50-state, ten-year dataset to examine associations between state characteristics and CCDF policy outcomes. These analyses conclude that state-level drivers of CCDF policy are distinct from drivers identified in the cash welfare literature, and that drivers vary across dimensions of CCDF policy. The qualitative chapters report results from a comparative case study examining CCDF policy in New Mexico and Nevada from 2010 to 2022. Cold mix asphalt (CMA) technologies are being used in the United States and have environmental benefits. However, these technologies are not fully developed. We do not yet know their resilient and dynamic modulus, which are important for designing pavement thickness. They have not being used widely because we do not know also their performance. This study looks at three Cold Central Plant Recycling (CCPR) materials to help fill this gap. We conducted several lab tests, including the Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test (HWTT), Semi-Circular Bending Test (SCB), and Texas Overlay Test (TOT). We also tested the mechanical properties of the CCPR …
