Development Of A Water Education Module For Middle School Students Under The Guidance Of The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park And Based On Epscor Funded Research On Evapotranspiration Along The Middle Rio Grande, Alicia Paz-Solis

Water Resources Professional Project Reports

In 2004, a study by S.S. Papadopoulos determined that riparian evapotranspiration (ET) along the Middle Rio Grande (MRG) accounts for 37% of the total water budget in this stretch of the river. Transferring important findings such as this to middle school age students presents both a challenge and an opportunity to provide authentic research based information to tomorrows water managers and inspire their curiosity regarding water issues in New Mexico. This Professional Project presents two activities that incorporate selected aspects of the ET research funded by New Mexico's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) along the Middle Rio Grande. …

The UFDP is a project initiated by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) with a focus on urban flood damage reduction, river channel restoration, and development of technologies to address these actions in the Middle Rio Grande of central New Mexico (USACE, 2006). The project involves collaboration between the USACE Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC), the Desert Research Institute of Nevada (DRI), Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), and the University …

The Rna Binding And Rna Chaperone Activity Of Sin Nombre Virus Nucleocapsid, Bradley A. Brown Jul 2008

The Rna Binding And Rna Chaperone Activity Of Sin Nombre Virus Nucleocapsid, Bradley A. Brown

Biomedical Sciences ETDs

Sin Nombre Virus (SNV) is a member of the hantavirus genus in the Bunyaviridae family. Hantaviruses contain a tripartite negative sense RNA genome with individual segments that form panhandle structures through intramolecular interaction between the 5 and 3' termini. This panhandle structure is recognized at high affinity by trimeric viral nucleocapsid protein (N), and this interaction is likely to be important for specific encapsidation of viral RNA (vRNA) into nucleoprotein complexes in cells, for incorporation of vRNA into assembling virus particles, and for initiation of genomic vRNA replication. N is also capable of unwinding RNA/RNA duplexes as an RNA chaperone. …

Annual Report Of The University, 2007-2008, Volumes 1-6, University Of New Mexico

UNM Annual Reports

Project Summary and Goals Historically, affirmative action policies have evolved from initial programs aimed at providing equal educational opportunities to all students, to the legitimacy of programs that are aimed at achieving diversity in higher education. In June 2003, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling on affirmative action pushed higher education across the threshold toward creating a new paradigm for diversity in the 21 51 century. The court clearly stale that affirmative action is still viable but that our institutions must reconsider our traditional concepts for building diversity in the next few decades. This shift in historical context of diversity in …

General: Hydroelectric Projects In Brazilian Amazon Spark Concern Over Cross-Border Environmental Impacts, Notisur Writers

NotiEn: An Analytical Digest About Energy Issues in Latin America

Bolivian environmentalists have strong concerns over dams Brazil is planning to build along the Madeira River. "The consequences of the dams on the Madeira River will add to the process that has been destroying the Amazon for decades," said Bolivian public health specialist Pablo Villegas, researcher in the Foro Boliviano Sobre Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo (FOBOMADE). The impact caused by the Madeira River Hydroelectric Complex, according to environmentalists\' predictions, will be the greatest ever caused by an infrastructure project, giving all the more reason for alarm.
