An Examination Of Psychopathy And Substance Use Disorders Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging And Cluster Analysis, Lora Cope
Psychology ETDs
Psychopathy is a personality disorder that is exemplified by affective and interpersonal characteristics such as grandiosity, pathological lying, manipulative use of others, and a profound lack of empathy, guilt, and remorse. Psychopaths also typically demonstrate a constellation of problematic and dangerous behavioral characteristics including sensation seeking, impulsivity, and both instrumental and reactive aggression. Psychopathy and substance use disorders (i.e., abuse and dependence) are significant sources of financial and emotional burden in the United States, as both are strongly linked to severe and repetitive criminal activity. They are also highly comorbid, with psychopaths being about two to three times more likely …

The Effects Of A Narrative-Based Social Problem-Solving Intervention With High-Risk Adolescent Males, Kristine Karen Noel
The Effects Of A Narrative-Based Social Problem-Solving Intervention With High-Risk Adolescent Males, Kristine Karen Noel
Special Education ETDs
Adolescents with emotional disturbance and those incarcerated present high risks for poor outcomes in high school, and as adults (e.g., Walker, Ramsey, & Gresham, 2004). Poor social competence is often a characteristic of this group of students (e.g., Kauffman, 2005; Maag, 2006). Historically, schools have responded to the social needs of this group of students through opportunities to participate in social problem-solving interventions (e.g., Cook, et al., 2008). Results of the research investigating these interventions, though, have shown moderate gains in student social problem-solving skills, yet limited to no effect on behavior in authentic social contexts (e.g., Maag, 2006; Quinn, …

New Mexico Youth Risk & Resiliency Survey: Middle School Survey Results 2011, D Green, L Penaloza, C Fitzgerald
Reports & Documents
Results of the 2011 New Mexico Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey (YRRS) reveal few recent changes in the rates of health risk behaviors among the state’s public middle school students. While the rates of many behaviors associated with alcohol use have decreased among high school students in recent years, statistically significant changes were not seen among middle school students. The prevalence of current drinking, binge drinking, riding in a car with a drinking driver, and cocaine use appeared lower in 2011 than 2009, but these differences were not statistically significant. At the same time, New Mexico has seen statistically significant …

Reports & Documents
Results of the 2011 New Mexico Youth Risk and Resiliency Survey (YRRS), a collaborative project of the New Mexico Departments of Health and Public Education, reveal a decrease in the rates of several important health risk behaviors among the state’s public high school students. The prevalence of suicide attempts, cigarette smoking, binge drinking, and physical fighting have decreased significantly in recent years. At the same time, New Mexico has seen an upward trend in the rate of students who are obese. Caring and supportive relationships between high school students and their parents or guardians, teachers, peers, and adults in their …

A study commissioned by the NM Office of Recovery and Reinvestment to assess the impacts of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) on New Mexico's economy. The ARRA provided resources to state and local economies through four primary methods: tax relief provided to individuals and businesses, aid to directly impacted individuals and families, fiscal stabilization to help maintain levels of government spending for key services, and stimulus projects. This report presents the economic impacts of ARRA supported expenditures from the enactment of the law on 19 February 2009 through the final end date for ARRA projects on 30 September …

Latin American Energy Dialogue, White Papers and Reports
This white paper provides a means for indigenous peoples to communicate current information and impacts among constituents and tribal groups. These concepts are very important in understanding how these groups disseminate policy and resource utilization impacts such as energy policies related to traditional knowledge associated to generic resources. In todays society the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is imminent yet, large segments of the world remain marginalized. Our contention is that peer-to-peer and inter-institutional networks can be used to connect local with global systems to close this divide. Using today virtual and digital technologies the gap can be bridged …

Abstinence Self-Efficacy, Mood, And Treatment Outcomes In Emerging Adults With Substance Dependence, Brenna L. Greenfield

This study examined the relationship between abstinence self-efficacy (ASE), depression, psychological distress and treatment outcomes in 18 to 24 year olds with substance dependence. Faculty Scholarship
PB&J, Family Services, Inc., through this brief as amicus curiae, has demonstrated that the decision rendered by the Court of Appeals was correct. The New Mexico Legislature did not draft NMSA 1978, § 36-6-1(D) (1973) to encompass the situation of a pregnant woman using drugs or alcohol during pregnancy. The Legislatures failure to pass legislation specifically criminalizing such conduct after careful consideration indicates that the Legislature did not intend for the statute to be so broadly construed. This is particularly true when considering the fiscal impact reports accompanying the proposed legislation. This decision by the Legislature is consistent with sound …
