The 233u Fission And Capture Cross Sections And Their Analysis At Low Engines, Delmar W. Bergen
The 233u Fission And Capture Cross Sections And Their Analysis At Low Engines, Delmar W. Bergen
Physics & Astronomy ETDs
The 233U fission and capture cross sections were measured using a nuclear-device neutron source and time-of-flight techniques. Cross section data are presented from 20 to 106 eV for fission and from 20 to 63 eV for fission + capture. The resonance region (20 eV to 63 eV) was fitted with both a single level function consisting of a sum of Breit-Wigner levels and the Reich and Moore multilevel function based on R matrix theory. The resulting resonance parameters are listed and discussed. In order to establish the validity of the resonance parameters derived from the multilevel fit, a …

Some Observations On The Chemical Behavior Of Carrier-Free Iodine-131 And Dilute Carrier Iodine0127, Manning S. Reynolds
Some Observations On The Chemical Behavior Of Carrier-Free Iodine-131 And Dilute Carrier Iodine0127, Manning S. Reynolds
Chemistry and Chemical Biology ETDs
Unexpected behavior by very small amounts of iodine has been noted by biochemical, medical, and ecological workers. It also has been shown that mild oxidation of carrier-free iodide-131 produced previously unknown species of iodine compounds. It was of interest to determine whether such species also result from the reduction of iodate.
While studying the formation of carrier-free iodate-131 by perchloric acid oxidation of iodide-131 at elevated temperatures, it was found that the acid is not directly responsible for the formation of iodate. Instead, the oxidation is accomplished by a volatile material (thought to be chlorine dioxide) formed only in perchloric …

Mineralogy Of Coesite And Petrographic Association And Distribution At Meteor Crater, Arizona., Alfred A. Burgoyne
Mineralogy Of Coesite And Petrographic Association And Distribution At Meteor Crater, Arizona., Alfred A. Burgoyne
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
Natural coesite, the high density monoclinic polymorph of silica, is found in shocked and melted sandstone at Meteor Crater, Arizona. Structural, morphological, and optical data have been obtained from synthetic coesite crystals and aggregates. Natural coesite occurs as microcrystalline anhedral grains which are unsuitable for the above determinations. In this study the following new data have been obtained for natural and synthetic coesite.
(1) The calculated and observed d spacings and their intensities for both natural and synthetic coesite have been reinvestigated through a 28 range from 100 to 750 for CuKo
(2) Nearly all grains of synthetic …
A Taxonomic Approach To The Evaluation Of Secondary School English Program., George Hirshfield
A Taxonomic Approach To The Evaluation Of Secondary School English Program., George Hirshfield
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
A taxonomy is a classifying device. There are essentially two types of taxonomies. The first is the non-hierarchial one, which is used to keep similar things together. The classification of English textbooks by subject, e.g., literature, spelling, and grammar would be non-hierarchial. The second is the hierarchial one, which is used to classify elements along some continuum. The classification of English literature books according to the relative difficulty of vocabulary would be hierarchial. The latter type can be most useful for viewing the organization of a system of things or activities and is used toward those ends in this study, …

Wittgenstein's Concept Of Truth In The Philosophical Investigations, Robert B. Labbe
Wittgenstein's Concept Of Truth In The Philosophical Investigations, Robert B. Labbe
Philosophy ETDs
Either Wittgenstein did not care to study the “problems of truth and falsehood” or he did not return to these problems in his later philosophy. Whatever may have been the reason, an examination of his later writings beginning with the discussions contained in The Blue and Brown books reveals that Wittgenstein did not investigate the problems of truth and falsehood systematically. There is no where stated a theory of truth, but only scattered remarks as to “truth” might be considered. The lack of anything beyond the few remarks in the Philosophical Investigations and the Remarks on the Foundations of mathematics, …
Stratigraphy Of The Lower Morrison Formation Along The Defiance Monocline, New Mexico And Arizona, Robin Clair Lease
Stratigraphy Of The Lower Morrison Formation Along The Defiance Monocline, New Mexico And Arizona, Robin Clair Lease
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
Along the western border of the San Juan Basin a prominent cliff-forming, orange sandstone has been incorrectly mapped as a part of the Recapture Shale Member of the Morrison Formation. This stratigraphic unit is here given the informal name, Beautiful Mountain member, and has stratigraphic continuity with the Salt Wash Sandstone Member in Red Rock Valley and the Cow Springs Sandstone in Todilto Park, New Mexico. The Recapture Shale Member is restricted to the pink and pale-green, slope-forming sandstone above these orange sandstone beds and below the Westwater Canyon Sandstone Member.
The Beautiful Mountain member is predominantly a lenticularly bedded, …
Relationship Of Pleochroism And Specific Refractivity Of Cupric Compounds To Cupric Ion Coordination., Pilsum Phiroze Master
Relationship Of Pleochroism And Specific Refractivity Of Cupric Compounds To Cupric Ion Coordination., Pilsum Phiroze Master
Earth and Planetary Sciences ETDs
The ion has a 6-fold coordination. The CU-polyhedron is distorted due to the Jahn-Teller effect. There is, hence, varying polarizability in each Cu-polyhedron. Also since the nature (and size) of the ligands in each Cu-polyhedron varies, the polarizability varies from one Cu-polyhedron to the next.
Light waves passing through the Cu-polyhedra cause electron polarization. Conversely the polarizing action of light waves upon the atoms is accompanied by a reaction of the atom upon the light waves. Hence, absorption of light energy is directly proportional to polarizability. This thesis demonstrates this relationship by:
l) Showing that the projection of the square-planar …
