Did you know that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, through the Superfund program within each of the ten regional offices across the United States, has millions of dollars to spend each year for cleaning up contaminated sites that are not designated “Superfund” sites? Not many people seem to know that, even lawyers who practice in environmental law, or even law professors who teach it. If these elite folks do not know that, then how would ordinary community members know that, people with busy lives who don’t do Superfund for a living? The short answer is, they probably don’t know either.

SARS-CoV-2 has infected over 128 million people worldwide, and until a vaccine is developed and widely disseminated, vigilant testing and contact tracing are the most effective ways to slow the spread of COVID-19. Typical clinical testing only confirms the presence or absence of the virus, but rather, a simple and rapid testing procedure that sequences the entire genome would be impactful and allow for tracing the spread of the virus and variants, as well as the appearance of new variants. However, traditional short read sequencing methods are time consuming and expensive. Herein, we describe a tiled genome array that we …

Pediatrics Research and Scholarship
Augmented reality (AR) mobile game, Pokémon GO, leverages gamification and location tracking technology to encourage players to walk in different places to catch Pokémon characters in real-world settings. The systematic review sought to explore the impact Pokémon GO has on players' physical activity (PA), and psychological and social outcomes. Six research databases (PubMed, SPORTDiscus, PsycInfo, Web of Science, Science Direct, and Scopus) were used. Study inclusion criteria were: (1) quantitative research published in English; (2) examined the relationships between or impact of Pokémon GO on PA, psychological, and/or social outcomes; and (3) included participants played or exposed to Pokémon GO. …

Utilizing K'É To Build A New Mexico Higher Education Collaborative: Supporting Native Student Success, Catherine N. Montoya
Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs
The purpose of this study is centered around a need’s assessment and creation of a collaborative entity in New Mexico that will support Native students in higher education institutions. There is always a need to support Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary degrees in higher education programs, because often professionals and programs function in silos. Instead, professionals and programs that support Native students would benefit from working to create supportive environments where Native students can succeed; provide encouragement; and make their environments safe and welcoming. This can best be accomplished through collaborative efforts across New Mexico. A state level higher education collaborative …

This handbook helps take some of the mystery out of practicing in tribal courts. Without the necessary information to learn new rules and protocols many attorneys are understandably reluctant to practice in a new jurisdiction. As a result, tribal courts are underused or misused. This handbook is intended to help attorneys and advocates become more aware of the various individual tribal court systems and to learn their rules and protocol.

ABSTRACT
We are facing a huge linguistic and cultural change as a result of the spread of English language in KSA. It has been an important criterion to succeed in education or to obtain an opportunity in the Saudi job market (Al- Jarf, 2008; Al-Seghayer, 2014a; Al-Seghayer, 2014b; Rahman, 2013). …

Molybdenum (Mo) is an essential element that plays an important role in global nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur cycles with a critical role in human metabolism and ecological balance. It becomes catalytically active when complexed with the pyranopterin dithiolene ligand (PDT), forming the nearly ubiquitous molybdenum cofactor (Moco). The complex biosynthetic pathway of Moco, its presence in all three domains of life, and its role as a constituent cofactor in the last universal common ancestor (LUCA) all point toward the importance of the PDT in the development of life on Earth. Molybdoenzymes catalyze the two-electron oxidation or reduction of substrates that …

Background
Celiac disease is common and affects approximately 0.7 to 1% of the population. Due to its protean manifestations, celiac serology is often requested for chronic non-febrile ailments for which there is no obvious cause.
Tricore Laboratories routinely performs total serum IgA levels, anti-deamidated gliadin IgA antibody and tissue transglutaminase IgA antibody (tTG) levels when a celiac serology is requested.
Past studies have shown that tTG is very sensitive and specific ‘screening’ test for the diagnosis of celiac disease. Additionally, the same studies show that positive anti-gliadin antibody in the presence of negative tTG antibody levels suggests the former to …

The LARC Mentoring Program (LMP) seeks to increase access to long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) by broadening clinicians’ skills to insert and remove LARC devices and to provide counseling on all contraceptive methods. Before March 2020, the LMP training model consisted of in-person, hands-on trainings to teach clinical skills. When in-person trainings were no longer viable, the LMP team developed a virtual, hands-on Intrauterine Device (IUD) Insertion practicum for providers in New Mexico in collaboration with the Beyond the Pill program from the University of California, San Francisco. From December 2020 to February 2021, 15 health care providers from rural and …

2021 Pediatric Research Forum Session
Objective: To assess changes in the incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in extremely preterm infants at UNMH after implementation of routine use of prophylactic hydrocortisone. The secondary objective is to assess for possible complications that can occur with the treatment of steroids, including the presence of spontaneous gastrointestinal perforation, late onset sepsis, significant hyperglycemia, and significant hypertension.
Background: BPD is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in preterm infants and has been found to be an independent risk factor for poor neurodevelopmental outcomes in extremely premature infants. Hydrocortisone has been shown to be effective in improving survival and decreasing …

One in nine pregnant women report drinking during pregnancy. Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) increases the risk of infection in the newborn by altering development with resultant changes in immune function including cytokine expression. Toll-like receptors are expressed on multiple types of cells and play a vital role in modulation of the innate immune system and the release of inflammatory mediators. Therefore, we predicted that PAE would result in alterations in the pattern of cytokine expression following stimulation with toll-like receptor agonists, in umbilical cord blood samples.
Cord blood samples were obtained from a subset of infants born to the prospective …

Case Diagnosis
Severe respiratory failure represents the most fatal aspect of COVID-19. However, other consequences of the disease including neurological deficits may result in long-term disability. We report a rare case of transverse myelitis (TM) in a child associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Case Description
A 3-year-old female with no significant past medical history presented to the emergency department with acute-onset weakness in all four extremities. Within hours, the patient experienced respiratory distress, worsening weakness, and decreased level of consciousness. She was intubated and admitted to the PICU. Within the next few days, she was found to be positive for the …

Pediatric Residency Academic Rotation Improves Self-Rated Proficiency In Quality Improvement Skills, Maria Heubeck, Rebecca Craig, Taylor Ford, Lanier Lopez, Grace Mccauley, Elizabeth Yakes Jimenez
2021 Pediatric Research Forum Session
Introduction: As of July 2020, all second-year pediatric residents participate in a one-month academic rotation. The rotation focuses on quality improvement (QI), research, education and leadership skills and experience. This project aims to assess the impact of the rotation on residents’ self-reported QI proficiency, self-rated motivation to pursue scholarly activities, and competency based on ACGME milestones.
Methods: Pediatric residents participating in the academic rotation from July 2020 to March 2021 were invited via e-mail to complete pre- and post-rotation surveys in REDCap. We conducted a Wilcoxon signed-rank test in Stata/SE 15 to compare pre- and post-survey responses for residents who …
