Applying Neutrosophic Natural Language Processing To Analyze Complex Phenomena In Interdisciplinary Contexts, Diego Fernando Coka Flores, Ignacio Fernando Barcos Arias, María Elena Infante Miranda, Omar Mar Cornelio

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The paper addresses the challenge of integrating natural language processing (NLP) with neutrosophic logic to solve problems where uncertainty, ambiguity, and indeterminacy play a critical role. This approach becomes particularly relevant in an increasingly digitalized world, where human-machine interaction requires a deeper understanding of linguistic and contextual nuances. Despite advances in conventional NLP, many existing methodologies lack tools to effectively manage undefined or contradictory elements present in real data. In this context, neutrosophic logic offers an innovative framework to model and analyze complex and multifaceted human perceptions. The study applies a methodology that combines advanced NLP techniques with neutrosophic analytical …

New Materialism And Public Lands: Opportunities For Human And Nonhuman Interactions At Petroglyph National Monument, Madilynn M. Nolen

Geography ETDs

Petroglyph National Monument (PETR) resides at the intersection of geology, urban development, and environmental preservation. As the site of convergence for these complex systems, this National Park site is an example of what kinds of interactions occur between humans and nonhumans and how these interactions mediate our broader understanding of material world. This project utilizes literature from more-than-human geographies and new materialism to examine how these interactions inform the management strategies of PETR. Through the interviews of 15 Volunteers-in-Parks and a focus group of five PETR employees, this project investigates what nonhuman entities are present on and around the monument, …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

China's open pit mining industry faces the dual challenge of increasing production and preventing disasters. In order to ensure the safe exploitation of mineral resources, the stability of slopes must be assessed. In light of the fact that over 1,950 landslide accidents have occurred over the past decade, accounting for 15% of all safety incidents, the evaluation of slope stability has become a critical research focus in the fields of geo-resources and geo-engineering. Traditional slope stability evaluation methods rely on empirical tools and the expertise of professionals to assess slope stability. In contrast, machine learning (ML) methods offer a more …

The Quadruple Helix Of Strategic Alliances And Its Application For Community Development In Las Acequias De Atrisco, Jorge Garcia

Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal

In today’s society, the development of Information Communication Technologies (ICT) is imminent yet, large segments of the world remain marginalized. I contend that peer-to-peer and inter-institutional networks can be used to connect local with global systems to close this divide. Using today’s virtual and digital technologies the gap can be bridged using collaboration platforms using different knowledge systems that do not simply replicate the same information. The suggested model represents forming strategic alliances for information sharing and collaboration to empower and support local knowledge systems. The examples discussed show our efforts toward an inclusive approach with communities in full partnership, …

Myth And Monument In Old Town Albuquerque: Southwest Pietà And The War Of Presiding Histories, Eric Castillo Sep 2024

Myth And Monument In Old Town Albuquerque: Southwest Pietà And The War Of Presiding Histories, Eric Castillo

Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal

Luis Jiménez’s Southwest Pietà (1984) intended to combat cultural amnesia that obscured Native Americans’ and Mexicans’ contributions to the state. Jiménez’s Pietà sought to counter the iconography that shaped New Mexico’s colonialist heritage. But Old Town Albuquerque shrouds Native American and Mexican contributions to the region. Albuquerque’s public art has often been deployed as a wedge to write and rewrite narratives about land inhabitants, but the city’s public art tells a powerful story about race and place in New Mexico. This essay explores the socio-historical battle of land memorialization in Old Town Albuquerque and provides a geo-racial perspective about the …

Where Is Chican@ Studies? Infrastructure & Institutionalization In The 21st Century, Reynaldo F. Macias Sep 2024

Where Is Chican@ Studies? Infrastructure & Institutionalization In The 21st Century, Reynaldo F. Macias

Regeneración: A Xicanacimiento Studies Journal

This article provides for only a marginal update to the institutional context and complexity of Chican@ Studies in the US, so that we might better understand the need for comprehensive institutional history and its impact on the field as a discipline and as an Alter-Native curriculum framework for schooling. The question answered in this essay is “what is the 21st century institutional presence of Chicana & Chicano Studies in the schools?” focusing primarily on higher education, historicizing, contextualizing, and politicizing it. It describes the number and locations of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, administrative units, and, in part, relationships to …

Integrated Merec-Cocoso Approach Using Score Function Ofneutrosophic For Location Selection Of Special Economic Zone, Debashis Ghosh, Bahnishikha Roy Muhuri, G. S. Mahapatra, B. S. Mahapatra Sep 2024

Integrated Merec-Cocoso Approach Using Score Function Ofneutrosophic For Location Selection Of Special Economic Zone, Debashis Ghosh, Bahnishikha Roy Muhuri, G. S. Mahapatra, B. S. Mahapatra

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Special economic zones (SEZs) are essential if a developing country is to boost economic growth. The selection of an SEZ site might be viewed as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) difficulty because of the many conflicting aspects connected to different locations. This work presents a flexible neutrosophic MCDM approach for optimal SEZ site search. The single-valued neutrosophic sets transform the qualitative evaluation of the criteria for SEZ alternatives into a quantitative evaluation. The method based on removal effect on criteria (MEREC) approach is improved in a neutrosophic environment to ascertain the relevance of every characteristic of SEZ alternatives. We suggested a …

Decolonizing Digital Accessibility Within Land/Water Realities Using Minimal Computing, Mary Rice Aug 2024

Decolonizing Digital Accessibility Within Land/Water Realities Using Minimal Computing, Mary Rice

Researchers

The purpose of this essay is to conceptualize accessibility in digital education for school children through a minimal computing perspective. This perspective prioritizes the contextual, social, and relational as part of the ethic of minimal computing mantra to consider What. We. Need. To achieve our goals, we begin with a story from a classroom in rural New Mexico, then we problematize definitions of accessibility for computing in educational settings considering how an identification as having disabilities is situated within colonial monolingual/monocultural structures that position minds and bodies as deficient. We connect these structures to capitalistic educational technology movements like using …

The Role Of Elevation In The Migration, Physiology, And Genomic Diversification Of Birds, Jessie L. Williamson Aug 2024

The Role Of Elevation In The Migration, Physiology, And Genomic Diversification Of Birds, Jessie L. Williamson

Biology ETDs

Elevational gradients cause profound eco-climatic variation across short distances. Partial pressure of oxygen (PO2) is a severe challenge that organisms face at high elevations; due partly to specialization on PO2, most Neotropical bird species have narrow elevational ranges. However, a small fraction are elevational generalists that span sea level to high elevations, and a subset undertake extreme migratory journeys from low to high elevations biannually. My dissertation combines diverse approaches across levels of biological organization to understand how elevation impacts the ecology, evolution, physiology, and migration of montane birds. I examined ‘extreme’ elevational …

Operators Based On Multiple Generalized Set-Valued Neutrosophic Quadruple Sets, Abdullah Kargın, Memet Şahin, Kübra Arıtı Şiğva

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

In this study, as a generalized form of multiple valued neutrosophic numbers and neutrosophic quadruple numbers, multiple generalized set-valued neutrosophic quadruple numbers and sets are defined and their basic properties are given. Thus, a new structure is obtained in which multi-valued neutrosophic sets and neutrosophic quadruple sets are used together. Also, optimistic union, pessimistic union, average union, pessimistic intersection, optimistic intersection, average intersection operators are defined for multiple generalized set-valued neutrosophic quadruples. Thus, multiple generalized set-valued neutrosophic quadruple sets were made usable in decision-making applications. Researchers can obtain more objective results in decision making applications by using these operators.

Assessing Consequences And Relevant Thresholds Of Seismic Events In Puerto Rico To Aid The Future Creation Of Consequence-Driven Scenarios, Yahaira D. Alvarez-Gandia Jul 2024

Assessing Consequences And Relevant Thresholds Of Seismic Events In Puerto Rico To Aid The Future Creation Of Consequence-Driven Scenarios, Yahaira D. Alvarez-Gandia

Geography ETDs

Puerto Rico frequently experiences damaging earthquakes due to its location on the northeastern margin of the Caribbean Plate. Its unique combination of factors, including high population, informal construction practices, and environmental risks, such as tsunamis or landslides, create a heightened risk of loss of life and property. Within this context, earthquake scenarios are vital communication, mitigation, and preparedness tools. They provide the opportunity to think critically about possible alternatives to reduce the risks and impacts of these unpredictable events. As an initial step for integrated earthquake scenario development, this study uses semi-structured interviews and the analysis of government reports to …

Connecting Climate And Geography With Diversification And Conservation Of A Western North American Endemic Mammal, Sorex Monticola, Antonia Androski Jul 2024

Connecting Climate And Geography With Diversification And Conservation Of A Western North American Endemic Mammal, Sorex Monticola, Antonia Androski

Biology ETDs

Repeated glacial cycles of the Pleistocene initiated complex sequences of divergence and secondary contact with gene flow for many North American species. In my first chapter, I expand our understanding of the phylogeography of the montane shrew, Sorex monticola, with range-wide genetic sampling and geospatial analyses to reconstruct the history of clades within this species and test whether evolutionarily divergent clades occupy distinct abiotic niches. In my second chapter, I build upon these hypotheses, providing the first estimates of evolutionary relationships and timing of diversification based on genome-wide markers. In my third chapter, I use a systematic review of the …

Geospatial Analysis Of Environmental, Tick, And Host Interactions With Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever In The Southwestern United States, Al Ekram Elahee Hridoy

Geography ETDs

This study examines the spatiotemporal distribution and determinants of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever (RMSF) incidence in Arizona from 2006 to 2021. Utilizing climate variables, land cover types, and socio-economic indicators, we employed Negative Binomial Regression, Spatial autocorrelation, and Random Forest-based classification to identify key predictors and patterns of RMSF spread. Results indicate positive correlations between RMSF incidence and precipitation and shrub cover, while veterinary access, forest cover, and relative humidity show negative associations. Spatial analysis revealed significant case clustering, with limited veterinary access associated with higher RMSF incidence. A Random Forest-based predictive model was developed to identify potential tick-host interactions, …

Unequal Neighbors In Diverse Neighborhoods: Accounting For Variation In The Impact Of Relative Inequality On Neighborhood Crime, Samuel A. Torres Jul 2024

Unequal Neighbors In Diverse Neighborhoods: Accounting For Variation In The Impact Of Relative Inequality On Neighborhood Crime, Samuel A. Torres

Sociology ETDs

Research demonstrates that crime rate differences across racially segregated urban communities are primarily attributable to uneven distributions of resources between neighborhoods. Less is known about the role economic inequality within neighborhoods, what I call relative inequality, plays in maintaining ethno-racial criminal disparities. In this dissertation I explore sources of variation in the impact of relative inequality on neighborhood crime by drawing on data from the 2010-2013 National Neighborhood Crime Study Panel (NNCS2-P). I find that relative inequality effects are attenuated in higher disadvantage neighborhoods and this interaction accounts for differences in effect size by neighborhood ethno-racial composition. Results also show …

A Usage-Based Account Of Ongoing Structural Changes In Sanapaná: Grammar Sketch And Case Studies, Jens E. L. Van Gysel Jul 2024

A Usage-Based Account Of Ongoing Structural Changes In Sanapaná: Grammar Sketch And Case Studies, Jens E. L. Van Gysel

Linguistics ETDs

This dissertation presents three case studies on sociolinguistic variation in Sanapaná, an Enlhet-Enenlhet language spoken by around 1000 people in Paraguay. It investigates the impact of the process of language shift towards Paraguayan Guarani and Spanish that Sanapaná is undergoing. Specifically, it attempts to disentangle the effects of speakers’ multilingualism in Spanish and/or Guarani, their frequency of use of Sanapaná, and structural factors internal to Sanapaná on phonetic, morphological, and syntactic variation. It finds that Spanish/Guarani proficiency is correlated with L1-to-L2 convergence in Sanapaná vowel productions and use of different motion framing strategies, while frequency of Sanapaná usage is a …

Support For Climate Shaping The Mitochondrial Dna Contact Zone In The Audubon's Warbler, Kyana Nina Montoya Jul 2024

Support For Climate Shaping The Mitochondrial Dna Contact Zone In The Audubon's Warbler, Kyana Nina Montoya

Biology ETDs

Mitochondrial introgression has potential consequences for physiology and adaptation, but its causes are poorly understood. The Audubon’s Warbler (AUWA; Setophaga coronata auduboni) provides a case study to examine those causes as mitochondrial introgression has swept through part of the range. The northern mitochondrial genome (mtDNA) introgressed from the Myrtle Warbler (MYWA; S. c. coronata) and is 4% divergent from the southern mtDNA. Incomplete introgression suggests discordant AUWAs conferred a selective advantage in the north; it was hypothesized that energetic demands associated with migration formed this advantage. We tested two hypotheses to explain partial introgression and the mtDNA distribution …

The Borders Of Embodiment: Transgression, Transformation, And Corporeality In Chicanx Speculative Fiction, Chrysta Carson Wilson Jul 2024

The Borders Of Embodiment: Transgression, Transformation, And Corporeality In Chicanx Speculative Fiction, Chrysta Carson Wilson

English Language and Literature ETDs

This dissertation develops a clearer vision of Chicanx Speculative Fiction (SF) as its own genre anchored to the experiences and histories of the Chicanx community, with a particular interest in the avenues through which race and gender shape the experience of embodiment. SF resists hegemonic narratives that justify racial hierarchies and reveals both the cultural and concrete pressures exerted on Chicanx bodies in the United States as a minoritized and often exploited community. Furthermore, my analysis illustrates that Chicanx writers utilize elements of SF to defamiliarize traditional notions of race, class, and nationality. Through the use of defamiliarization, Chicanx SF …

Critical Geospatial Data Science: Principles For Curating, Analyzing, And Sharing Geospatial Data, Daniel Beene Jul 2024

Critical Geospatial Data Science: Principles For Curating, Analyzing, And Sharing Geospatial Data, Daniel Beene

Geography ETDs

Critical geospatial data science (CGDS) offers principles for engaging with geospatial data, methods, and translation by pulling from critical epistemologies in geography. CGDS interrogates objective “truths” in science by actively engaging in critique of geospatial data and methodologies. Specifically, CGDS contends with the political context and motivations behind geospatial data science (GDS) while using GDS methods to understand how social-spatial arrangements manifest and are reinforced through data. CGDS explicitly aims to inform practices for criticality from within GDS and provides opportunities for multidisciplinary research that incorporates social theories, contextualizes geospatial data, and critically evaluates the effects and ethics of (under)representation …

Compassionate Care In Elementary General Music Teaching And Learning As A Way To Respond To The World: A Narrative Inquiry, Julia K. Church Hoffman Jul 2024

Compassionate Care In Elementary General Music Teaching And Learning As A Way To Respond To The World: A Narrative Inquiry, Julia K. Church Hoffman

Teacher Education, Educational Leadership & Policy ETDs

In this narrative inquiry, where stories were the data, three experienced music teachers from one public school district in the southwestern United States shared stories about their experiences as elementary general music teachers. The stories were told through the lens of compassionate care, a perspective that implies a shared experience between teacher and learners (Hendricks, 2018, 2023). The stories, and my interpretation of them, revealed an understanding of elementary general music, a multimodal, fun, school subject, as a vehicle for teaching children how to be kind and respectful humans. Threads that emerged from the stories linked connections between compassionate care, …
