Stop Eating Lobsters? Mainers Say No 6/23/2023, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Few Maine residents say they will heed a recommendation by Seafood Watch to avoid the state's most famous food because of the potential threat to right whales because of lobster fishing. Majorities support making the COVID-era "to-go" alcohol sale policy permanent and a proposed ban on the sale of flavored cigarettes, while a plurality support banning pharmacies from selling tobacco products. Housing, the cost of living, and jobs or the economy are most often cited by residents as the most important problem facing the state.

Children grow up in homes where varying environmental and socioeconomic contexts have a bearing on their emotional and behavioral health (EBH). This study used data from a representative sample of the child supplement of the US National Health Information Survey (NHIS) and applied the social determinants of health (SDoH) framework to explore factors associated with child EBH. We conducted a path analysis of the child’s EBH measured by the strengths and difficulties questionnaire (SDQ) from their macro and socioeconomic contexts, e.g., policy, household, and other health system risk factors. For children in the sample, aged 4 to 17 years old …

Six In Ten Mainers Believe Trump Committed A Crime & Will Be Convicted In Mishandled Docs Case 6/22/2023, Unh Survey Center
All UNH Survey Center Polls
Six in ten Maine residents believe Donald Trump committed a crime mishandling classified documents and the same percentage anticipate he will be convicted. However, most of those who voted for Trump in the 2020 election say his indictment makes them more likely to vote for him or say it has no effect. One in six Mainers believe the U.S. is not doing enough to aid Ukraine in its war with Russia, while a third think we are doing too much or should not be helping at all. Ahead of the release of Supreme Court decisions, about half of Mainers disapprove …

Six in ten New Hampshire residents believe Donald Trump committed a crime in the federal investigation into mishandling of classified documents and half think he will be convicted. However, very few 2020 Trump voters say his indictment makes them less likely to vote for him. On other topics, an increasing percentage of Granite Staters think the U.S. is doing too much to aid Ukraine and few expect an outright Ukrainian victory. Ahead of a Supreme Court decision, a majority of Granite Staters disapprove of colleges and universities using race and ethnicity in their admissions decisions.

Lessons Learned From A Multiagency Community Mental Health Centre Quality Improvement Learning Collaborative In New Hampshire, Marcy Doyle, Delitha Watts, Molly Umana, Janet Thomas, Jeanne Ryer
All Materials
Background/Aims Community mental health centres in the US often struggle to implement the evidenced-based metrics and measurement processes required for quality reporting initiatives. Through the co-design and facilitation of a learning collaborative, all 10 community mental health centres in New Hampshire agreed on the goal of demonstrating measurement alignment and improvement across three behavioural health metrics related to depression and suicide risk, aiming for a screening rate of at least 85% in a year.
Methods The learning system framework and Lean Six Sigma define, measure, analyse, improve and control methodologies were used to increase participation and improve quality reporting. Teams …

U.S. Births Remain Near 40-Year Low For Third Consecutive Year, Kenneth M. Johnson
U.S. Births Remain Near 40-Year Low For Third Consecutive Year, Kenneth M. Johnson
Carsey Publications
In this data snapshot, Senior Demographer Kenneth Johnson reports that recent National Center for Health Statistics birth data indicate there were only 3,661,000 births in 2022, compared to 3,664,000 in 2021, and just 3,614,000 in 2020. These three birth cohorts are the smallest in 40 years and continue a birth decline that began in the era of the Great Recession. The long-term impact of the fertility decline has been substantial. Had 2007 fertility patterns been sustained through 2022, there would have been 9.6 million more births in the last 15 years. A critical long-term question is: how many of these …
