Chemical Reactions Near Equilibrium, W.R. Gilkerson, M.M. Jones, Gordon A. Gallup May 1952

Chemical Reactions Near Equilibrium, W.R. Gilkerson, M.M. Jones, Gordon A. Gallup

Gordon Gallup Publications

In seeming contradiction to usual deductions from thermodynamics, it has been shown by De Donderi on the basis of his affinity function, by Prigogine2 on the basis of the Chapman- Enskog model, and by Manes, Hofer, and Wellers using purely mathematical methods, that the rate of a chemical reaction close to equilibrium is directly proportional to the free energy difference between reactants and products. This relation may be shown to be a consequence of the theory of absolute reaction rates, also.

Electric Chick Brooding Studies, F. D. Yung, F. E. Mussehl Apr 1952

Electric Chick Brooding Studies, F. D. Yung, F. E. Mussehl

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

Perhaps one of the most valuable lessons to be learned from a study of chick brooding is that good results can often be obtained in more ways than one. In carrying on work with electric brooders at the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station, special attention has been given to such factors as insulation and to other details of design which effect economy of operation and ease of construction. Low cost rather than "cheapness" has been the ideal. The work has been cooperative between the Agricultural Engineering Department and the Poultry Husbandry Department of the University of Nebraska.

United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications

The Hog is generally considered to be a dirty animal. Experience shows, however, that given a chance to graze in a clean pasture and sleep in a dry, clean place, it will do so, thus growing faster and making a better profit for its owner.

This bulletin is written in answer to inquiries, largely from swine owners who find evidence of infestation with parasites in hogs they slaughter on their farms. It is designed to tell them how to identify most of the common parasites and how to prevent such infestations.

Department of Plant Pathology: Faculty Publications

This report deals with the effect of certain synthetic plant growth-regulators on the activity of alpha-amylase (1) secreted by virus tumor tissue grown in vitro. Previous studies have lacked adequately controlled conditions and have been carried out with enzyme preparations obtained through the usual methods of destruction of cells. In this particular study (a) the assay employed to measure enzyme activity includes control of pH and temperature and (b) this enzyme, being secreted, is not subject to the drastic preparative procedures involving destruction of cellular structure usually necessary to obtain enzymes.
