Collards, Brassica oleracea var. viridis, because of their nutritional value, are important vegetables in the diets of many Tennesseans. According to a survey conducted by R. D. Freeland of the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture, Tennessee produced 1,544 acres of fresh and 4,405 acres of processor collards in 1971. Most were grown on the Cumberland Plateau and in West Tennessee. Many insects attack collard foliage. Flea beetle feeding causes "shot holes" in the leaf. Various caterpillars such as the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni (Hubner) , and the imported cabbageworm, Pieris rapae (L.), are capable of severe defoliation (Figure …

He indicated that flares, pop-guns, color painting on sheep, and dogs have been used to cut down losses to coyotes but these methods have not been nearly so effective as the use of cyanide guns and 1080. Agricultural producers want to know the skills to control depredating wildlife. A high powered rifle, traps, and various related equipment are standard for most livestock production operations.

Ovulation rate, fertilization rate and prenatal mortality were studied in yearling beef heifers treated with PMSG or FSH and in non-treated controls. Oestrus was synchronized in 50% of the animals in each treatment with an oral progestagen. The gonadotrophin injections were given during the normal oestrous cycle or during the progestagen-administration period. All heifers were inseminated 6 to 10 hr after observation of standing oestrus.

Ovulation rate and percentage fertility were determined in approximately a third of the animals in each treatment group. The reproductive tracts of the remaining animals were examined 81 to 104 days after insemination for number …
