Section 9-312 of the Uniform Commercial Code determines the priority of conflicting security interests' in the same collateral. Generally, the first security interest filed is superior to all others. An exception is allowed for a purchase money security interest perfected within ten days of the debtor receiving the noninventory goods. In North Platte State Bank v. Production Credit Association, the Nebraska Supreme Court held the ten-day grace period begins when possession is received, rather than when the purchaser technically becomes a "debtor" of the purchase money creditor. In Stauffer v. Weedlun, the Nebraska Supreme Court held revocation of a driver's license upon accumulation of twelve or more traffic violation points meets due process requirements despite the absence of statutory provisions for prior hearing and notice to the driver. The decision merits further consideration in light of an earlier case, Bell v. Burson, in which the United States Supreme Court held due process was violated when a driver's license was suspended pursuant to a financial responsibility law, because of lack of a prior notice and an opportunity for a hearing on the driver's possible liability. Critical flicker frequency (CFF) in a free-swimming harp seal (Pagophilus groenlandicus) was investigated using behavioral techniques. The resulting CFF versus intensity contour indicates a definite rod-cone break, confirming a duplex photoreceptor population whose presence had not been observed in previous morphological reports.

Fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas Rafinesque) were continuously exposed to reduced pH levels of 4.5, 5.2, 5.9, 6.6 and 7.5 (control) during a 13-month, one-generation test. Survival was not affected, even at the lowest pH tested. Fish behavior was abnormal, and fish were deformed at pH 4.5 and 5.2. Egg production and egg hatchability were reduced at pH 5.9 and lower, and all eggs were abnormal. A pH of 6.6 was marginal for vital life functions, but safe for continuous exposure. Free carbon dioxide, liberated by the addition of sulfuric acid to reduce the pH, may have had an unknown …
