Sporulation Of Bacillus Thuringiensis Without Concurrent Derepression Of The Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle, Kenneth W. Nickerson, John De Pinto, Lee A. Bulla Jr.
Papers in Microbiology
Bacillus thuringiensis sporulates in a glucose-glutamate medium without concurrent derepression of the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Glutamate appears to regulate tricarboxylic acid cycle activity as well as to influence spore heat resistance and production of dipicolinic acid.

Evaluation Of Soil Deposition And Removal Processes: An Interpretive Review, S. M. Kulkarni, R. B. Maxcy, R. G. Arnold
Department of Food Science and Technology: Faculty Publications
In each food processing plant, soil deposition and removal constitute unique processes influenced by the food, water supply, processing equipment, and cleaning regimen. Since there are so many complex as well as unique processes, the scientific literature represents many varied approaches to problems related to deposition and removal of soil. This paper considers the role of various constituents in soil residue. Likewise, the various factors contributing to the cleaning process are reviewed. Cleaning processes have changed considerably during recent years because of technological advances in food processing equipment as well as development of specialized cleaning equipment. Generally speaking, better sanitation …
The Effect Of Simultaneous And Sequential Presentation Of Stimulus Dimensions On Absolute Judgment Accuracy, John H. Flowers
The Effect Of Simultaneous And Sequential Presentation Of Stimulus Dimensions On Absolute Judgment Accuracy, John H. Flowers
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
The effects of spatial stimulus repetition, sequential stimulus repetition, spatially separated dimensional redundancy, and sequentially presented dimensional redundancy on absolute judgment accuracy of hue and brightness were compared. Two exposure durations, 0.1 and 2.0 sec, were used. While spatial repetition did not improve accuracy for either dimension, the sequential repetition of brightness produced a small increase in accuracy. The spatial presentation of correlated values of both dimensions increased accuracy only at the 2.0-sec duration. The sequential presentation of both dimensions increased accuracy, but only at the 2.0-sec duration was this gain substantial and greater than that provided by the sequential …

Alimony Awards Under No Fault Divorce Statutes: Magruder V. Magruder, 190 Neb. 573, 209 N.W.2d 585 (1973), Penny Berger
Nebraska Law Review
Passage of Nebraska's new no fault divorce law in April 1972 aroused speculation over its future application and interpretation by the courts. The alimony provisions, for example, while providing a skeletal framework for attorneys, need judicial fleshing out before their impact will be understood. There is some question as to whether the new law by implication eliminates marital fault as a consideration from alimony proceedings in the same way it has eliminated fault as a ground for granting the decree of dissolution. In Magruder v. Magruder, the first case to interpret the alimony section of the new law, the …

Debate On State Versus Federal Regulation Of Insurance Continues: American General Insurance Co. V. Ftc, 359 F. Supp. 887 (S.D. Tex. 1973), Richard C. Reier
Nebraska Law Review
For over a century, there has been a continuing controversy concerning state versus federal regulation of insurance. Since the passage of the McCarran-Ferguson Act, the primary responsibility for regulation has been with the states. However, the decision in American General Insurance Co. v. FTC once again raises the issue of federal regulation of certain areas of the insurance trade. In American General, the court held that the language of the McCarran Act limiting the application of the Clayton Act to those situations where the business of insurance is not regulated by state law did not deprive the Federal Trade …

A Cross-Cultural Analysis Of Sex Differences In The Behavior Of Children Aged Three Through 11, Beatrice Whiting, Carolyn P. Edwards
A Cross-Cultural Analysis Of Sex Differences In The Behavior Of Children Aged Three Through 11, Beatrice Whiting, Carolyn P. Edwards
Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications
This paper uses the cross-cultural, systematic child observations of the Six Culture Study, led by John and Beatrice Whiting of Harvard University, to investigate the validity of the stereotypes of sex differences about nurturance, aggression, compliance, dependency, and other behaviors. The children aged 3 – 11 years, were observed in natural settings in seven different parts of the world. The analysis indicates that there are universal sex differences in the children’s behavior, but the differences are not consistent nor as great as the studies of American and Western European children would suggest. Furthermore, socialization pressure in the form of task …

Heligmosomoides Johnsoni Sp. Nov. (Nematoda: Heligmosomatidae) From The Heather Vole, Phenacomys Intermedius Merriam, Virginia R. Rausch, Robert L. Rausch
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
Heligmosomoides johnsoni sp. noy. is described from the cecum of the heather vole, Phenacomys intermedius Merriam, from the Olympic Mountains, Washington. The absence of longitudinal cuticular ridges dorsally separates H. johnsoni from species of Heligmosomoides other than H. hudsoni (Cameron, 1937), which occurs in varying lemmings, Dicrostonyx spp., and from which H. johnsoni is distinguished by its longer spicules, form of the dorsal ray, and other characters. Both Phenacomys and Dicrostonyx have a specialized cecum, with long villi around which the nematodes are found tightly coiled. The zoogeography of heligmosomid nematodes in Phenacomys is briefly discussed.

Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Faculty Publications
American systematics collections: A national plan. Developed by a stellar group of biologists including David Wake and Peter Raven, this plan called for action by the systematics community. The estimate of needs in 1973 called for about 63 million USD for the next five years just to keep the US National Collections from disintegrating and to get them in shape to mount the huge effort needed to fully inventory the biota of the earth (a plan that was not even dreamed of until about the year 1995).

Bird Control Seminars Proceedings
I was listed to speak about bird control on industrial sites, so I have selected three or four of the more interesting jobs that we have worked on over the past ten years. Naturally the ones that the pest control firms call us about are those that they have tackled from several different angles and been unable to solve. As a result of this, we have had several really interesting bird control jobs in conjunction with pest control firms. I think each one of them will point out different problems and ways to solve them. The first of the jobs …
