Status Of Pp581 (Volak) Rodenticide Development, Dale E. Kaukeinen Feb 1978

Status Of Pp581 (Volak) Rodenticide Development, Dale E. Kaukeinen

Eastern Pine and Meadow Vole Symposia

In the Proceedings of the first Eastern Pine and Meadow Vole Symposium (March 1977, Winchester VA), ICI was introduced and basic technical information on PP581 presented. PP581 is a second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide, with the approved common chemical name of brodifacoum. The compound is also known as TALON™ in the form of 50 ppm (0.005%) grain-base pelletized bait as developed for control of commensal rodents. The proposed trade name for the orchard formulation of PP581 is VOLAK™. Brodifacoum has been seen to possess several novel characteristics in work with commensal and other rodent species, suggesting a considerable general potential for control …

An Update On Rozol For Orchard Mouse Control, Sol Pitchon Feb 1978

An Update On Rozol For Orchard Mouse Control, Sol Pitchon

Eastern Pine and Meadow Vole Symposia

ROZOL- continues its advance in establishing itself as a reliable product for controlling orchard mice.

ROZOL GROUND SPRAY CONCENTRATE is still the only alternative to Endrin, not only from the persistence point of view, but for its effectiveness. Environmentally, ROZOL GROUND SPRAY CONCENTRATE is proving to be a desirable product because shortly after it controls the mice, it degrades into non-toxic metabolites, thus lacking the residue problems that exist with Endrin.

Furthermore, mouse resistance to Endrin has developed after many years of orchard use. Clear field data has established that ROZOL GROUND SPRAY CONCENTRATE is more effective than Endrin in …

Five Years Of Controlling Meadow And Pine Vole With Ramik Brown, J. G. Connell, W. B. O'Neal Feb 1978

Five Years Of Controlling Meadow And Pine Vole With Ramik Brown, J. G. Connell, W. B. O'Neal

Eastern Pine and Meadow Vole Symposia

Testing of Ramik for control of orchard mice was begun in 1972 in New York. By 1974 there were many test locations all over the Northeast, and by 1975 tests were conducted all over the country. Analyzing the results of some of the early testing suggested some refinements of application technique and formulation. These changes were made to better adapt Ramik to the conditions found in the orchard, and to make it more attractive to the voles. Some of the parameters examined are outlined below:

1. Bait flavor

2. Weather effects on the bait

3. Pellet size

4. Toxicant concentration …

Menstrual Cycle As Focus Of Study And Self-Reports Of Moods And Behaviors, Paula Englander-Golden, Mary R. Whitmore, Richard A. Dienstbier Jan 1978

Menstrual Cycle As Focus Of Study And Self-Reports Of Moods And Behaviors, Paula Englander-Golden, Mary R. Whitmore, Richard A. Dienstbier

Department of Psychology: Faculty Publications

Retrospective questionnaires show cyclical variations in moods and behaviors across the menstrual cycle. However, results obtained from daily mood questionnaires are inconsistent. In the present study, which ran for 11 weeks, self-report measures of menstrual symptomatology, using the 8-factor Moos (1968, 1969 a, c) Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ), were investigated. The MDQ was administered under conditions that made the menstrual cycle a salient (retrospective questionnaire) or not a salient (daily questionnaire) part of the study. The study included women who were taking and not taking oral contraceptives. A 2 × 3 analysis of variance (with the two groups of women …

Pasteurellosis Of Fishes, G. L. Bullock Jan 1978

Pasteurellosis Of Fishes, G. L. Bullock

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

Septicemic infections of marine and estuarine fishes caused by Pasteurella have been known since the early 1960's. A Pasteurella caused a massive mortality of white perch (Morone americanus) and striped bass (M. saxatilis) in Chesapeake Bay in 1963 (Snieszko et al. 1964), and of cage-cultured yellowtails (Seriola quinqueradiata) in Japan in 1964 (Matsusato 1975). Pasteurellosis has spread to most areas in Japan where yellowtails are propagated and is one of the important bacterial diseases of the species. In 1972, 360 metric tons of yellowtails were lost. The terms bacterial tuberculoidosis and pseudotuberculosis (Kubota et …

An Immunochemical Study Of The Combining Sites Of The Second Lectin Isolated From Bandeiraea Simplicifolia (Bs Ii), Charles Wood, E. A. Kabat, S. Ebisu, Irwin J. Goldstein Jan 1978

An Immunochemical Study Of The Combining Sites Of The Second Lectin Isolated From Bandeiraea Simplicifolia (Bs Ii), Charles Wood, E. A. Kabat, S. Ebisu, Irwin J. Goldstein

Nebraska Center for Virology: Faculty Publications

Two lectins with different binding specificities have been isolated from extracts of seeds of Bandeiraea simplicifolia. The first, Bandeiraea lectin I [11] was specific for terminal non-reducing αDGalactosyl residues. It reacted with B substances from human ovarian cysts and with several galactomannans to form precipitin lines in agar gels. Polysaccharides with terminal αDGalactosyl residues, such as larch galactan, did not react. The lectin agglutinated B erythrocytes strongly but also reacted to a lower titre with A1 and very weakly with A2 erythrocytes [15, 28] indicating that terminal non-reducing αDGalNAc [24] can …

Food Deprivation And The Regulation Of Meal Size In Larvae Of Chrysopa Carnea, Alan B. Bond Jan 1978

Food Deprivation And The Regulation Of Meal Size In Larvae Of Chrysopa Carnea, Alan B. Bond

Alan Bond Publications

The course of repletion and the effects of food deprivation on meal size were explored in three experiments on larvae of Chrysopa carnea (Neuroptera). Feeding to repletion was found to occur within the first 30 min of exposure to food. Meal size increased as an ogival function of deprivation, up to the limit of gut capacity. Behavioral components involved in the initiation of feeding were little affected by deprivation and did not appear to be inhibited by distention of the gut. Termination of a meal may be mediated by the stimulation of prey-release behavior, rather than by inhibition of feeding.

Heg78-94 Electrical Appliances And The Energy Dollar, Janet Wilson

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials

This NebGuide contains information on the typical wattage of various home appliances.

Living costs are at an all-time high. The purchase of electric appliances represents a fairly large expenditure in a family budget and the cost of electricity is increasing. There is no indication these costs will come down. So, if you are concerned about cutting expenses and choosing energy-efficient appliances, you will need to choose appliances carefully.

Protein Synthesis In Rabbit Reticulocytes: Characteristics Of A Ribosomal Factor That Reverses Inhibition Of Protein Synthesis In Heme-Deficient Lysates, R. O. Ralston, A. Das, A. Dasgupta, R. Roy, S. Palmieri, N. K. Gupta Jan 1978

K. Gupta

Department of Chemistry: Faculty Publications

A ribosomal salt (0.5 M KCI) wash factor (RF) that reverses inhibition of protein synthesis in heme-deficient reticulocyte lysates has been resolved from the bulk of Met-tRNAtmet- binding factor (EIF-1), Co-EIF-I, and EIF-2 (ternary complex dissociation factor, TDF). The purified RF restores protein synthesis activity of heme-deficient lysates to the level observed in the presence of hemin. No direct correlation exists between amount of EIF-i activity and ability to reverse inhibition of protein synthesis in heme-deficient lysates. Homogeneous preparations of EIF-i are completely inactive in reversal of protein synthesis inhibition in heme-deficient lysates. These findings suggest that …

State Action Immunity And Municipalities: The Sherman Act Looks For New Territory: Whitworth V. Perkins, 559 F.2d 378 (5th Cir. 1977), Fred T. Witt Jr.

Nebraska Law Review

Numerous exemptions from the antitrust laws have been recognized to facilitate certain activities which cannot (or for various reasons, should not) be carried on in a competitive atmosphere. In Parker v. Brown (1943), the Supreme Court recognized that federal and state governments would not be subject to the antitrust laws for official governmental activities. Under the so-called Parker "state action" exemption, the Court held that a state was exempt from prosecution when it acted through its legitimate state agencies or officers pursuant to legislative authority. Recently, however, the state action exemption has been a highly litigated antitrust area. There has …

Nebraska Law Review

Hackbart v. Cincinnati Bengals, Inc., has drawn attention to the subject of violence in professional sports. However, the judicial system did not prove to be a successful avenue of redress for Hackbart, the injured professional football player. This Note discusses whether the court was correct in declining to declare "open season" on overzealous athletes who have injured an opponent, or whether it erected a precedential blockade for injured sports participants.
