Effects Of Inflation And Deflation Upon Nebraska Agriculture, 1914 To 1932, H. Clyde Filley
Effects Of Inflation And Deflation Upon Nebraska Agriculture, 1914 To 1932, H. Clyde Filley
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
This study attempts to give the effects of war-time inflation and the subsequent deflation upon Nebraska agriculture. It presents statistical evidence of what happened. It is too late to prevent the present depression. Information concerning the situation may aid in promoting recovery. It is hoped that a knowledge of the inflation of 1916 to 1920 and the depression following may aid in avoiding the making of similar errors in the future.
History Of Farm Land Prices In Eleven Nebraska Counties 1873-1933, Eleanor H. Hinman
History Of Farm Land Prices In Eleven Nebraska Counties 1873-1933, Eleanor H. Hinman
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
The subject of farm land price is intimately intertwined with the economic and social welfare of farm people, and even with the financial structure of the nation. A detailed, year-by-year record of farm land sales and prices from several typical Nebraska farming areas over a 61-year period may throw light on the behavior of land values in the counties studied and in similar farming areas, and may help towards supplying a better basis for land price analysis and forecasting than now exists. This bulletin presents such a record for 11 Nebraska counties. It is based on 76,544 true sales of …

The Thurston County Mastodon, Mastodon Grangeri, Sp. Nov., Erwin H. Barbour
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
The skull and tusks of the Thurston onnty mastodon, found near Pender, have recently been remounted and added to the long list of mastodons, mammoths, and modern elephants to be seen in the cases of Elephant Hall, in the Nebraska State Museum. When found, the skull, teeth, and tusks were encased in Pleistocene gravel, and were in a state of perfect preservation. Contrary to instruc~on, they were pried out of their bed with poles before the wI"::,ter could reach the spot, and the dome of the skull was ruined. The unbroken palate, however, with teeth in place and undamaged, and …

A New Rhinoceros Mount, Trigonias Osborni, Erwin H. Barbour
Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum (1924–2023)
On February 9, 1934, a pair of rhinoceroses, Trigonias osborni, was installed in the Founder's Room in Morrill Hall, the Nebraska State Museum. They are figured and accorded brief consideration here in order to maintain the printed records of such acquisitions in the Nebraska State Museum. The two skeletons, carefully posed, were put in the south wall case to be associated with a pair of Diceratherium from Morrill County. and the mounted skeletons of two Brown County Te leo ceras. In this gallery two long built-in wall cases insure ample facilities for the proper installation of six rhinoceroses, for each …

Some Digenetic Trematodes From Deep-Water Fish Of Tortugas, Florida, Harold W. Manter
Some Digenetic Trematodes From Deep-Water Fish Of Tortugas, Florida, Harold W. Manter
Harold W. Manter Laboratory of Parasitology: Library Materials
Introduction (first two paragraphs)
The parasitic fauna of ocean depths is practically unknown. Although an extensive fish population occurs at all depths, very little study has yet been made on the helminths of these fish. During the summers of 1930, 1931, and 1932 excellent opportunity was offered for the collection of parasites from fish trawled from depths varying from 40 to 582 fathoms at Tortugas, Florida. A considerable number of systematic hauls by the staff and crew of the Tortugas Biological Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington yielded an abundance and considerable variety of fish, some of rare forms, …

Forty-Seventh Annual Report Of The Agricultural Experiment Station Of Nebraska February 1, 1934, W.W. Burr
Agricultural Research Division: News and Annual Reports
This report is for the most part a record of the achievements of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1933. The reports from the substations extend to January 1, 1934. A financial statement showing the receipts and expenditures of the Experiment Station is included.
The projects are grouped and discussed under subject headings. Little or no progress has been made on some projects, while others, on which attention has been concentrated, have been advanced rapidly or completed. Curtailment of appropriations and a reduction in cash funds due to the low prices of agricultural products …

Ec34-48 Farm Sheep Facts, M.A. Alexander, W.W. Derrick
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
The farm flock and the fattening of western feeder lambs are the only methods of sheep production of importance in Nebraska. The farm flock is not a major enterprise on Nebraska farms. It serves as a side line on farms having a well-drained place which sheep may call their own.
This 1934 extension circular contains information on: Nebraska Sheep-industry facts; market, ewe, ram, and lamb facts; shearing and wool facts; two parasites and one pest; grading and marketing wool; and scouring and carding wool for home use.

Improving The Farm Environment For Wild Life, Wallace B. Grange, W. L. Mcatee
Improving The Farm Environment For Wild Life, Wallace B. Grange, W. L. Mcatee
United States Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
As farms replace virgin lands, whether forest or swamp, marsh or prairie, conditions affecting wild life are revolutionized. Some creatures, especially the larger ones, disappear. Others are benefited, at least during the earlier stages of agriculture, and increase in numbers. This is true of nearly all birds up to the size of the crow and of mammals to that of the rabbit. As agriculture becomes more intensive, however, and woods are cut down, hedgerows eliminated, and rough nooks here and there brought under cultivation, conditions become unfavorable for the smaller forms of wild life.
Uniform mature forest, uniform swamp, or …

The Vitamin A Content Of Skimmilk, Standardized Milk, And Cream From Different Breeds Of Cows, I. L. Hathaway, H. P. Davis
Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Research Bulletins
A study was made of the vitamin A content of skimmilk, of milk standardized by the addition of separated milk, and of cream. Rats whose body stores of vitamin A had been depleted by being fed a vitamin A deficient ration were fed either skimmilk, standardized milk, or cream as a source of vitamin A. Approximately 750 rats were used in nine experiments. From the results of these experiments the following conclusions were drawn: (1) that the vitamin A content of milk is associated largely with the butterfat and that separated milk containing a small quantity of fat contains only …
