Homenaje a Victòria Solanilla Demestre

Abstract: The figurative forms are representation that are easy to see and verify with the models. The schematic ones, on the other hand, require close and precise observation to discover what are, …

Homenaje a Victòria Solanilla Demestre

La Estatuaria Monumental Femenina De Pie De El Zapotal, Culturas Del Centro De Veracruz / Standing Female Anthropomorphic Monumental Statuary From El Zapotal, Central Veracruz Cultures, Chantal Huckert
Segundo congreso internacional de iconografía precolombina. Barcelona, 2023. Actas.
Iconography Of Sky Bands, Earth Bands, Skull & Crossed-Bones Bands In Classic Maya Art, Nicholas Hellmuth
Iconography Of Sky Bands, Earth Bands, Skull & Crossed-Bones Bands In Classic Maya Art, Nicholas Hellmuth
Segundo congreso internacional de iconografía precolombina. Barcelona, 2023. Actas.
This presentation introduces Maya motifs that tend to be in horizontal bands. The most common horizontal band is the Sky Band. The other common horizontal band is the Surface of the Underwaterworld, associated with Xibalba, below the surface. There is also an Earth Band, made of Caban symbols—rare but present at Palenque. The Witz is usually a “stone mountain” and rarely a band, but deserves to be included and studied. Another set of bands was of skulls and crossed bones; there is an endless band of these at Uxmal and nearby Puuc site of Nohpat. There are other bands that …
Los Seres Antropomorfos Y Sus Acciones Rituales En La Iconografía Tiwanaku, Elisa Cont
Los Seres Antropomorfos Y Sus Acciones Rituales En La Iconografía Tiwanaku, Elisa Cont
Segundo congreso internacional de iconografía precolombina. Barcelona, 2023. Actas.

Crosscutting Concept 4. Systems and system models. A system is an organized group of related objects or components; models can be used for understanding and predicting the behavior of systems.
Youth will understand and demonstrate the importance of building and recognizing connections in a community. They will make a network model that reveals connections that may seem invisible until youth trace them. Youth will learn about the concept of ‘six degrees of separation/small worlds’ (i.e., how we may be connected to people far away through our friends’ friends).

With the advent of artificial intelligence (AI), the field of creativity faces new opportunities and challenges. This manifesto explores several scenarios of human–machine collaboration on creative tasks and proposes “fundamental laws of generative AI” to reinforce the responsible and ethical use of AI in the creativity field. Four scenarios are proposed and discussed: “Co-Cre-AI-tion,” “Organic,” “Plagiarism 3.0,” and “Shut down,” each illustrating different possible futures based on the collaboration between humans and machines. In addition, we have incorporated an AI-generated manifesto that also highlights important themes, ranging from accessibility and ethics to cultural sensitivity. The fundamental laws proposed aim to …

Pioneers, Parricides, And The Spectre Of Violence In Settler-Colonial Homes And Histories, Katrina Jagodinsky
Department of History: Faculty Publications
Americans are grappling with everyday political and personal violence on a variety of fronts. Escalating frustrations with alternating police inaction and violence, failed explanations of gender- and racially motivated mass-shootings, and the heartbreaking centrality of children in this violence—as both victims and perpetrators—leave many onlookers desperate to understand how these acts have come to be so distinctly American. A cadre of scholars are focused on this problem: criminologists, lawyers, political scientists, psychologists, sociologists, and, applying their own unique set of tools and methodologies, historians. Among the historians concerned with the peculiarities of American violence are those who specialize in the …

Concussions present with a myriad of symptomatic and cognitive concerns; however, the relationship between these functional disruptions and the underlying changes in the brain are not yet well understood. Hubs, or brain regions that are connected to many different functional networks, may be specifically disrupted after concussion. Given the implications in concussion research, we quantified hub disruption within the default mode network (DMN) and between the DMN and other brain networks. We collected resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data from collegiate student-athletes (n = 44) at three timepoints: baseline (prior to beginning their athletic season), acute post-injury (approximately 48 hours …

Face masks that prevent disease transmission obscure facial expressions, impairing nonverbal communication. We assessed the impact of lower (masks) and upper (sunglasses) face coverings on emotional valence judgments of clearly valenced (fearful, happy) and ambiguously valenced (surprised) expressions, the latter of which have both positive and negative meanings. Masks, but not sunglasses, impaired judgments of clearly valenced expressions compared to faces without coverings. Drift diffusion models revealed that lower, but not upper, face coverings slowed evidence accumulation and affected differences in non-judgment processes (i.e., stimulus encoding, response execution time) for all expressions. Our results confirm mask-interference effects in nonverbal communication. …
