Joint Map Of Warren County, Kentucky, Steven L. Martin, Emily R. Morris
Map and Chart--KGS
This fracture map is a compilation of joint locations and faults mapped in Warren County, Kentucky, and provides orientations of fractures (joints and faults) for hydrological, geotechnical, slope stability, and rockfall mitigation analysis. The joint data include orientations collected from 2023 to 2024, and those collected during the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) geologic mapping of the Woodburn 7.5 -minute quadrangle (Shawe, 1963c). New joint orientations were measured to fill gaps in the published geologic map data. Joints are fractures with no appreciable movement parallel to the fracture plane and only slight movement normal to the fracture plane, whereas faults exhibit …

Rapidity-odd directed flow v 1 measurements are presented for K ± and KS0 in Au + Au collisions for sNN from 3.0 to 3.9 GeV with the STAR experiment. For comparison, v 1 of π ± , protons, and Λ from the same collisions are also discussed. The mid-rapidity v 1 slope dv1/dy|y=0 for protons and Λ is positive in these collisions. On the other hand, v 1 slope of kaons exhibits a strong pT dependence: negative at pT< 0.6 GeV/ c and positive at higher pT. A similar pT dependence is also evident for the v …

The n2EDM experiment at the Paul Scherrer Institute aims to conduct a high-sensitivity search for the electric dipole moment of the neutron. Magnetic stability and control are achieved through a combination of passive shielding, provided by a magnetically shielded room (MSR), and a surrounding active field compensation system by an Active Magnetic Shield (AMS). The AMS is a feedback-controlled system of eight coils spanned on an irregular grid, designed to provide magnetic stability to the enclosed volume by actively suppressing external magnetic disturbances. It can compensate static and variable magnetic fields up to ± 50 μT (homogeneous components) and ± …

Organic eggplant production in the United States is challenged by flea beetles, which stunt eggplant growth and reduce yield. Across four experiments between 2019 and 2024, we compared the effects of various pest management strategies on flea beetle abundance, damage, and marketable yield in eggplant production, focusing on row covers and organic insecticides in later years of the study. Treatments included fine-mesh row covers, organic insecticides, and untreated controls (all years); reflective plastic mulch (2019); various essential oils (2019–2020); conventional insecticide control (2019–2020); and spunbonded row covers (2019–2021). Low flea beetle pressure was observed in 2019 and 2020; consequently, experiments …

Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) leads to profound muscle atrophy and weakness that remain resistant to rehabilitation. Although early recovery typically involves a brief period of limb unloading, the degree to which disuse alone accounts for muscle pathology after ACLR remains unclear. Here, we leveraged publicly available RNA-seq datasets of muscle biopsies from vastus lateralis obtained 7 days after ACLR or 10 days after unilateral lower limb suspension (ULLS), each with matched control limbs, to directly compare disuse-driven and ACLR-specific early transcriptional responses. Despite similar periods of reduced loading, substantial transcriptomic divergence was identified using both intersection and interaction bioinformatic …

Active learning forms the foundation of adult education methodology as it promotes durable retention of knowledge in accessible long-term memory. The most successful active learning strategy uses periodic testing, a memory recall, application, and consolidation activity termed “retrieval practice.” After reviewing adult learning science evidence, we created a two-year anatomic and clinical pathology residency core curriculum (Pathology Core Curriculum) in which we deployed six principles of adult learning, prioritizing retrieval practice as our key learning strategy. We hypothesized that the Pathology Core Curriculum would improve long-term knowledge retention which would correlate with progressively higher retrieval practice and resident in-service exam …

Background: Almost all correlation measures currently available are unable to directly handle missing values. Typically, missing values are either ignored completely by removing them or are imputed and used in the calculation of the correlation coefficient. In either case, the correlation value will be impacted based on the perspective that the missing data represents no useful information. However, missing values occur in real datasets for a variety of reasons. In metabolomics datasets a major reason for missing values is that a specific measurable phenomenon falls below the detection limits of the analytical instrumentation (left-censored values). These missing data are not …

Background/Objectives: Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) share common molecular pathways, including neuroinflammation and oxidative stress, which complicate the effectiveness of single-target treatments. Garcinia mangostana L. (mangosteen) has shown neuroprotective properties, but previous studies focused on lipophilic xanthones, which have poor bioavailability and uncertain blood–brain barrier permeability. Methods: In the current study, polar metabolites from G. mangostana peel aqueous extract (GMPE) were assessed for potential multi-target interactions via UHPLC-QTOF-MS-based metabolomics, systems pharmacology, and molecular docking analysis. Further, in silico ADMET screening and network-based analyses assessed for overlap between GMPE compounds and genes associated with neurodegeneration (AD, …

Age-related cellular changes negatively impact CD4+ T cell function. Our prior work showed that mitochondrial complex II (succinate dehydrogenase [SDH]) expression was upregulated in T cells from older (O) adults (60–80 years old). T cells from older adults also produced higher amounts of cytokines generally considered proinflammatory, such as Th17 cytokines IL-17A/F and IL-21, and the Th-17-supportive cytokine IL-6, compared to T cells from younger (Y) adults (25–40 years old). The objective of our study is to evaluate whether hyperactivation of SDH is required for the induction of proinflammatory cytokines and the mechanistic link between SDH and Th17 cytokine …

Chronic ethanol (EtOH) consumption is a major contributor to multi-organ dysfunction, yet its systemic effects remain incompletely understood. To address this, we utilized a physiologically relevant long-term mouse model, administering 20% EtOH in drinking water for 60 weeks, to investigate the integrated consequences of chronic exposure. EtOH-consuming mice (0.4–0.5 mL/day) exhibited > 30% reductions in chow and fluid intake, resulting in a 12% decrease in total caloric intake compared to controls (p < 0.001). Body mass remained similar until Week 52, after which EtOH-treated mice had lower body mass due to reductions in both lean and fat mass (p ≤ 0.004). Functional assessments revealed impaired treadmill endurance (−17%) and grip strength (−11%) (p ≤ 0.037), while motor coordination remained unaffected (p = 0.203). Chronic EtOH exposure significantly altered gut microbiota composition, reducing Lactobacillus and enriching Faecalibaculum, Clostridium, and Bifidobacterium at the genus level. These changes were accompanied by marked depletion of short-chain fatty acids (p ≤ 0.05). Indirect markers of gut permeability (serum LPS & zonulin) and liver injury (serum ALT & AST, hepatic amyloid content) were elevated, alongside increased total cholesterol and > 62% upregulation of hepatic TNFα, IL-6 & serum amyloid A (p ≤ 0.046). EtOH also induced dyslipidemia and glucose intolerance (p ≤ 0.041), although transcriptomic changes in white adipose …

Solid-state triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA) upconversion has significant potential for application in light harvesting, optoelectronic devices, and bioimaging. However, the high optical powers required to achieve efficient upconversion have inhibited its adoption. In this work, we demonstrate plasmon-enhanced near-infrared (NIR)-to-blue TTA upconversion in a monolayer WSe2/organic heterojunction. Under far-field excitation, the device reaches a threshold of 19 mW/cm2 and an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 0.17% with an anti-Stokes shift of 1.1 eV. Plasmon excitation lowers the threshold to 0.9 mW/cm2 and improves the EQE to 3.6%. We attribute the plasmon enhancement to surface plasmon polariton (SPP) near-field enhancement and dark-exciton …

Background: While overall colorectal cancer (CRC) rates have declined in the United States (U.S.), early-onset CRC (EO-CRC), diagnosed before age 50, has increased. Rural U.S. residents face higher CRC incidence than non-rural counterparts. We aimed to examine the relationship between age at diagnosis and EO-CRC outcomes and whether rurality modify these associations. Methods: We analyzed data from 835,907 patients aged 20–79 years in the 2006–2020 SEER Program. Rurality was defined using U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural–Urban Commuting Area (RUCA) codes. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to examine associations between age, rurality, and late-stage CRC diagnosis. Competing-risk regression models were …

Objective Accurate mediastinal staging is critical for the effective treatment of non–small cell lung cancer because lymph node involvement significantly influences prognosis and therapeutic decisions. We sought to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy, limitations, and complementary roles of endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA), cervical mediastinoscopy, and surgical lymph node sampling in mediastinal staging of non–small cell lung cancer. Methods A systematized literature review was performed using PubMed and national guideline repositories. Studies were included if they reported or provided sufficient data to calculate the negative predictive value (NPV) for EBUS-TBNA, mediastinoscopy, or surgical lymph node sampling. Data were synthesized qualitatively …

Tau accumulates in a group of neurodegenerative diseases known as tauopathies. A prevailing hypothesis has been that Tau degradation is impaired due to an age-related imbalance in the autophagy-lysosome pathway, but whether these defects are a cause or consequence of Tau accumulation remains unclear. Here we show that a disease-causing mutation in the MAPT gene, which encodes Tau, p.R406W, is sufficient to disrupt multiple steps of the autophagy-lysosome pathway in human neurons. Using Airyscan super-resolution imaging, we find that mutant Tau neurons accumulate Tau and phosphorylated Tau in dysfunctional lysosomes, exhibit reduced lysosome motility, impaired fusion of autophagosomes and lysosomes, …

Introduction: Reproducibility, consistency, and transparency are essential to responsible and ethical scientific inquiry, though practices supporting these qualities are often neglected. However, in many cases data are confidential or otherwise unable to be shared publicly. This tutorial describes a method utilizing generative adversarial networks (GANs) to create synthetic data that are sufficiently similar to the original dataset in such cases where the source data cannot be shared or where the source data are too sparse as to internally validate results. Methods: Utilizing an exemplar study that aimed to create a clinical prediction model employing a novel echocardiographic measurement to differentiate …
