I'm actually here! I'm in! Forty-seven-year-old me is sitting pretty. Next, we'll start a bowling league and get t-shirts with nicknames on them, and they'll elect me Big Hammer and I can totally tell my therapist I was so wrong about that mid-life crisis paralysis. Wait. Stop. Be cool. Be cool. OK. Cool.

On Sundays, my husband and I have a ritual, which I suspect is shared by many parents about our age, and which takes most of the day to complete: Facetiming our young adult children. In general, we try to be circumspect with the number of times we call or text our children, who are in their early 20s. We don't want to be overbearing or repetitive or smothering. But we do want to feel close to our children and their lives. So we've all agreed to make Sunday calls a priority.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? I'm not talking about in adolescence or high school, when you have to start thinking about it for real. I mean when you were a little kid, and your mind didn't know yet to censor your imagination. What was that super cool job you knew you would have someday? Astronaut? Movie star? Cowboy? Ballerina? Football player? President? Although it was over 50 years ago, I remember it as if it were yesterday. My dream job, filled with excitement, glamor, and, undoubtedly, fame and fortune. I …

I should have known I was starting way above my level when "mask" was spelled all fancy with a "que" instead of just a regular old "k." The mud masque was intriguing in that it promised to remove impurities from my face with a satisfying, rubbery, peel-away finish. I'd never used a mud mask before, at least not on purpose.

Bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass has received increasing attention over the past decade. Many attempts have been made to reduce the cost of bioethanol produc- tion by combining the separate steps of the process into a single-step process known as consolidated bioprocessing. This requires identification of organisms that can efficiently decompose lignocellulose to simple sugars and ferment the pentose and hexose sugars lib- erated to ethanol. There have been many attempts in engineering laboratory strains by add- ing new genes or modifying genes to expand the capacity of an industrial microorganism. There has been less attention in improving bioethanol-related processes …

If you have ever spent a winter in New England you know the meaning of the word cold. Red nose, blue lips, cold! You begin to think that if you had gone down with the Titanic it would have been nothing more than a late-night dip with friends. Design: This was an observational cross-sectional study.

Methods: Women who were diagnosed with breast cancer and had a mean post–surgical treatment time of 51 months (range = 12–336 months) were compared with women who did not have breast cancer (CTRL group). Self-reported upper extremity function using the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire and shoulder range of motion, strength, and muscular endurance were measured. Participants were divided into 3 groups: breast cancer involving the nondominant limb (BC-ND), breast cancer involving the dominant limb (BC-DOM), and CTRL.

Results: A total of 59 women in the CTRL group, 23 …
