A meeting agenda is a list of the topics that will be discussed during a meeting, along with other details. The agenda is usually shared with participants before the meeting so they can prepare. The agenda's purpose is to give participants a clear outline of what should happen in the meeting, who will lead each task, and how long each step should take.

Pegasus Plans: Social Studies Unit Plans for Florida Teachers

During this unit, students will explore how the U.S. Constitution serves as the foundation for government, fulfilling its purpose and addressing societal needs. Students will delve into the structures, functions, powers, and limitations of government as outlined in both the U.S. and Florida Constitutions. Additionally, students will also learn about Federalism, the multi-level nature of government, and will learn to recognize the different responsibilities of government at the local, state, and national levels. Lastly, students will practice identifying an author's purpose within informational texts as they deepen their understanding of complex concepts related to governance and constitutional frameworks.

Pegasus Plans: Social Studies Unit Plans for Florida Teachers

During this unit, students will explore what persecution and prejudice look like through the lens of the Holocaust. They will explore historical sites and dates through a variety of ways to include virtual field trips, Nearpod, and videos. Students will explore what being a good neighbor is like and how prejudice and can change people. Students will gain an understanding of how many people died in the Holocaust by the example of the Paperclip Project.

Unintentional Fatal Overdoses And Prior Incarceration, Amy Donley Phd, Alexandria Mcclarty Ba

This report shares analysis of unintentional fatal overdose victims from 2018-2022 in Orange County, Florida who had been incarcerated in the Orange County Jail at least once in the 365 days prior to their death. Specifically, this report examines the number of times the victim had been incarcerated in their lifetime in the jail and if they had flags in their files for mental health, persistent mental health, substance abuse, and/or detoxification. Data for this analysis were provided by Orange County Corrections and the Orange County Medical Examiner.

This workflow is used for the University of Central Florida Libraries’ deaccession project to batch withdraw single and/or multiple items and volumes in records in Ex Libris’ Library Management System, Alma. It comprises several parts, including creating to-be-withdrawn list and considering different scenarios, batch withdrawing items in Alma, batch updating the MARC 996 field used for local statistics in the bibliographic records, creating the batch import profile, importing the updated records, unlinking bibliographic records from the Network Zone, and copying all the 035 fields (OCLC number) for Connexion update. This article proposes the notion of Artificial Sociality to describe communicative AI technologies that create the impression of social behavior. Existing tools that activate Artificial Sociality include, among others, Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, voice assistants, virtual influencers, socialbots and companion chatbots such as Replika. The article highlights three key issues that are likely to shape present and future debates about these technologies, as well as design practices and regulation efforts: the modelling of human sociality that foregrounds it, the problem of deception and the issue of control from the part of the users. This study examines the role of voice-based assistants (VBAs), specifically Alexa, in the mediatization paradigm framework. The authors hypothesize that emerging technologies such as chatbots and VBAs intensify the process of online meta-reintermediation of news. Three research questions were investigated through a questionnaire administered to 655 university students in the US and Italy: Do participants try to get news from Alexa? Are participants aware that VBAs represent a case of meta-reintermediation of news? Does Alexa contribute to the potential hybridization of news, information, and knowledge? Mediatization discourse has so far mainly been centered on media from institutional or social-constructionist approaches. The technological developments within communications industries coupled with the wider societal process of datafication might, however, beg for dusting off the smaller, although the long-time existing, technological approach to mediatization as a complement to the two other approaches, in order to understand aspects of automation and human-machine communication. This theoretical article explores how existing mediatization approaches can refocus to include lessons learned from human-machine communication. A New Family Member Or Just Another Digital Interface? Smart Speakers In The Lives Of Families With Young Children, Giovanna Mascheroni

Based on longitudinal qualitative research involving twenty families with at least one child aged eight or younger, the article provides an account of how families, as distinctive communicative figurations, adopt, use and make sense of smart speakers through diverse socially situated practices. Findings show that parents and children enter in a communicative relationship with smart speakers based on their attribution of human-like or machine-like traits to the device, and the device response to their expectations. Moreover, engaging in communicative practices through and with smart speakers, family members subvert or reinforce existing power relations. However, smart speakers acquire new agency by …

As research fields, mediatization and Human-Machine Communication (HMC) have distinct historical trajectories. While mediatization research is concerned with the fundamental interrelation between the transformation of media and communications and cultural and societal changes, the much younger field of HMC delves into human meaning-making in interactions with machines. However, the recent wave of “deep mediatization,” characterized by an increasing emphasis on general communicative automation and the rise of communicative AI, highlights a shared interest in technology’s role within human interaction. In this article, we take issue with an idea of autonomous and efficient automation that is upheld through the paradoxical conjunction of a flawed vision of the technological fix and the under-acknowledged human work required to fill in the gaps between machines and users. Our argument is based on two case studies that sit at opposite tails of automation processes: the front end of self-service checkouts and the back end of content moderation. Peer review of assignments encourages social cohesion among students, promotes a better understanding of course material, and develops soft skills. In the most recent National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) report, employers are most commonly seeking recent graduates who demonstrate the ability to problem solve and who effectively work on a team (Gray, 2024). Peer review assignments can help students practice these skills. Teaching students to provide quality feedback on peer assignments also allows instructors more direct student engagement opportunities since grading time is reduced (Hattie, 2022). This entry demonstrates application of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Framework combined with Transparent Assignment Design (TAD) to develop more inclusive assessments. The artifact is an asynchronous online sociology class on gender and sexuality. An assessment that was previously a written paper was revised using UDL and TAD to provide flexible demonstration of learning through a multimedia asynchronous discussion using VoiceThread.
