Stormwater Infiltration Thru Sewer Lines In Brevard County, Florida, Robert Earl Stubbe

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

This is a broad study of stormwater infiltration and inflow effects on two sewer systems with an equivalent size for comparison in Brevard County, Florida. The systems are Rockledge, which is located on the highest ground in the area, and Cocoa Beach, which is located down in the local water table. Rainfall data, sewage flow, quality, and flow rates were collected from the Brevard Public Health Department, Cocoa Beach and Rockledge sewage Plants, weather stations, and the Cocoa Water plant. The data indicated minimum, or no infiltration thru the Rockledge wastewater collection system. However, infiltration thru the Cocoa Beach system …

A Study Of Differences In Vertical Phosphorus Profiles Within The Sediments Of Selected Florida Lakes As Related To Trophic Dynamics, Edgar Allen Stewart Iii

Retrospective Theses and Dissertations

Several Florida lakes with different documented trophic state indices were selected for sediment analysis. Vertical sections of the sediment were taken at depths of .1, .5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 and l5 centimeters below the surface of the sediment-water interface. Total Phosphorus analysis was done on each section. The profile presented was then evaluated and was found that the profiles best fit the equation Y = X/ (A + BX), where Y is the Phosphorus Concentration in ppm and X is the sediment depth in cm. Correlation between the trophic state and the profiles characteristics are presented. …

Clustering Concepts In Automatic Pattern Recognition, Patricia J. Defilipps

During the past decade and a half, there has been a considerable growth of interest in problems of pattern recognition. Contributions to the growth have been from many of the disciplines including statistics, control theory, operations research, biology, linguistics, and computer science. One of the basic approaches to pattern recognition is cluster analysis, in which various methodologies may be successfully employed. It is the purpose of this research report to investigate some of the basic clustering concepts in automatic pattern recognition.

A Study Of Assimilative Capacities For Receiving Streams, Hadi. Elmi

Literature reviews on various stream processes which contribute to reoxygenation and deoxygenation was presented. These processes include atmospheric reaeration, photosynthesis-respiration, biochemical oxygen consumption, and benthic demand. Measuring these parameters in a selected stream is a complex and costly operation. On the other hand, prediction models developed are specific to particular location and environmental conditions and can only be applied to similar situations. Computer models such as "RIVER" are available and could be used to predict dissolved oxygen concentrations along a waterway for a specified set of stream conditions. The model "RIVER" was calibrated by using the existing conditions of flow …
