Child Risk For Obesity And Physical Activity, Bethany Moore

Childhood obesity is a significant health problem in the United States with consequences presenting themselves in the short- and long-term. Physical activity is a modifiable factor associated with adiposity and can at least partially attenuate the consequences of childhood obesity. There are many factors which influence children’s participation in regular physical activity, some of which are also associated with pediatric obesity. The overarching purpose of this research is to investigate potential influences on the association of obesity and physical activity among typically developing children. ETDs in repositories are nothing new, but what do you do when starting from zero, and your institution has not actively collected or archived student ETDs?
This was the scenario at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Being a relatively new institution growing out of several smaller local colleges, the codification of administrative workflows as related to ETDs took the long trail.
This talk will discuss our approach to discovering our own uncollected content, engaging ProQuest as an unexpected partner, and going from zero to fairly complete in about a year.
