Cyber-Notaries From A Contemporary Legal Perspective: A Paradox In Indonesian Laws And The Marginal Compromises To Find Equilibrium, David Tan
Indonesia Law Review
Notaries in Indonesia have existed since the colonial period. Changes in technology and the continuous evolution of information bring a flow of change in all aspects of life, including the legal sector. However, the position of notaries in Indonesia has not undergone significant changes despite ongoing advancements. The promulgation of Law No. 2 of 2014 formally introduced the term “cyber notary” to Indonesian law. However, the idea of cyber notary is not practical because of legal obstacles that seem to form a legal paradox. This work analyzes the position of cyber notaries in Indonesia’s positive legal order and the challenges, …

Freedom Of Speech And The Role Of Constitutional Courts: The Cases Of Indonesia And South Korea, M. Lutfi Chakim
Indonesia Law Review
Freedom of speech is a constitutional right that must be protected in a democratic society. However, there is an alarming problem in many countries where governments limit freedom of speech by targeting people espousing views contrary to those of the government. Many free speech cases handled by the Constitutional Courts of Indonesia and Korea demonstrate a gradual decline in the quality of democracy there. This article aims to assess the extent to which the Constitutional Courts’ role and responsibilities contribute to the protection of freedom of speech. Through its decisions, the Constitutional Courts in those two countries have contributed to …

Frequent inter-spousal communication is regarded as an indicator of safe family planning practice. Nevertheless, communication about family planning within couples in Indonesia is still largely unexplored. This study assessed the levels of inter-spousal communication about family planning and its associated determinants, using cross-sectional and nationally representative data from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey (IDHS), from a randomly selected cohort of 8,925 currently-married couples. Data on sociodemographic characteristics, inter-spousal communication behaviors, and attitudes regarding family planning were collected. The dependent variable in this study is how frequently couples discuss family planning, based on wives’ responses. The analyses were stratified …

Antagonistic Drug-Herb Interactions Between Clinacanthus Nutans And Cyclophosphamide On Wrl 68 Cell Line, Nurliana Abd Mutalib, Normala Abd Latip
Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Clinacanthus nutans (Acanthaceae), locally known as Sabah snake grass, is popularly taken as prevention as well as treatment for cancer in Malaysia, despite lack of concrete clinical evidence. However, it is crucial to evaluate potential antagonistic, additive, or synergistic interactions that may result from the co-treatment of this plant in chemotherapy. In this study, we demonstrate the drug-herb interaction using combination treatment of C. nutans extracts and cyclophosphamide on the WRL 68 cell line. Materials and Methods: Aqueous and 70% ethanol extract of C. nutans leaves were prepared using decoction and maceration methods. MTT assay was used to test …

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Background: There is much interest in formulating botanical materials into tablets due to the compactness and ease of administration. However, tableting of coarse milled botanical materials poses a challenge due to poor tableting properties. Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of wet granulation to produce tablets from coarse milled botanical materials and to assess the effect of formulation on properties of the tablets. Materials and Methods: Cinnamon bark and areca nut were milled to obtain 1–2 mm particle size, which was subsequently used in wet granulation using maltodextrin solution as a granulating liquid. Two diluents were tried; microcrystalline …

Background: Fucose is a deoxyhexose sugar. While the biological roles of L-fucose remain unclear, the sugar is known to accelerate the malignant potential of cancer cells. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the viability pattern of human cancer and normal cell lines treated with fucose.
Methods: The human gingival fibroblast (HGF-1), colorectal adenocarcinoma (HT-29) and skin malignant melanoma (A375) cell lines were cultured and treated with fucose at three concentrations of 1, 5, and 10 mg/ml. Cell viability was then measured using (3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazolyl-2)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social …

A Mini Review : Clinically Significant Potential Drug-Drug Interactions In Covid-19 And Comorbid Therapy, Ana Khusnul Faizah, Nani Wijayanti Dyah Nurrahman, Oki Nugraha Putra
Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and can be aggravated by comorbid diseases. In administering COVID-19 therapy, we need to consider potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) with comorbid drugs. Most patients with comorbid diseases get polypharmacy, therefore the risk of pDDIs increases. Potential drug-drug interactions can cause unwanted effects such as toxicity to death. There is no on-label therapy for COVID-19 but FDA has Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for hydroxychloroquine, chloroquine, azithromycin, remdesivir, ritonavir, and lopinavir. Some COVID-19 treatment potential drug-drug interactions have a level of severity C and D, so …

Law Enforcement At Indonesian Waters: Bakamla Vs. Sea And Coast Guard, Dhiana Puspitawati, Shinta Hadiyantina, Fransisca Ayulistya Susanto, Nurul Apriyanti
Indonesian Journal of International Law
This paper aims to analyze Indonesian laws regarding law enforcement in Indonesian waters. Specifically, it analyzes the authority of Badan Keamanan Laut (BAKAMLA) and Indonesian Sea and Coast Guard under the Indonesian Act Number 32 the Year 2014 on the Ocean Affairs Act and Indonesian Act Number 17 the Year 2008 on Navigation Act, respectively. It is argued that the state’s sovereignty over the ocean differs from the state’s sovereignty over the land territory. This is because according to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982), the state’s ocean territory is divided into various …

Attempts to achieve a comprehensive codification of the law of the sea were eventually successful with the entry into force of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. Australia played a key role in the negotiations that led to the finalization of the 1982 Convention and this involvement has shaped the manner in which Australia has subsequently dealt with law of the sea issues. This paper reviews aspects of Australian practice as the 1982 Convention was being negotiated and then considers Australian state practice by examining three case studies that have particular significance for Australia and Indonesia: …

The Myth Of The Integrity And Universality Of Law Of The Sea: Incidents At Sea By Non-Parties Of Unclos, Yurika Ishiii
Indonesian Journal of International Law
Scholarship often explains the structure of the law of the sea as a contestation and coordination of the coastal states versus the international community and the user states in terms of inclusivity and exclusivity. They tend to underscore inclusivity, as the ocean is an integrated domain. This argument is also based on the embedded idea of universality. However, such an assumption should not be taken for granted and it necessary to clarify the significance and limitations of this universality. As a part of a study for this purpose, this paper focuses on cases of incidents at sea caused by non-parties …

The spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a serious impact on public health. The speed and extent of its spread have demonstrated a global failure to cultivate awareness and cooperation in response to the threat. Therefore, in order to improve public awareness and the management of public health threats, we propose a strategy to initiate global civil society. Using Walt and Gilson's policy triangle framework for policy analysis, we reviewed and analysed a series of articles and policies related to COVID-19, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA), health resilience in the …
