Bakground. Poor environmental conditions and not yet good clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) in the community are suspected to be the cause of the high number of infectious diseases. Various efforts to promote PHBS have been launched by the government to improve people's clean and healthy living behavior. Indonesia is currently facing the problem of the high number of infectious diseases caused by unhealthy behavior, including not washing hands with soap. So there is a need for innovation in introducing and improving the skills of washing hands with soap, such as through health promotion e-modules. Aim. This study aims …

There are no specific drugs or vaccines for Nipah virus (NiV), which is a new Paramyxovirus that infects swine and humans. This study was conducted to investigate B-cell epitope mapping of the NiV attachment glycoprotein and to construct peptide-based vaccine candidates using the reverse vaccinology approach. To generate the linear B-cell epitope, the NiV isolates were extractad from GenBank, NCBI, using the IEDB web server; peptide modeling was conducted using PEP-FOLD3; docking was conducted using PatchDock and FireDock; and in silico cloning was designed using SnapGene. Various peptides were successfully identified from the NiV attachment glycoprotein based on B-cell epitope …

Secondary Spontaneous Tension Pneumothorax: A Case Report Of An Uncommon Presentation Of Post-Tuberculosis Sequelae, Herick Alvenus Willim
The New Ropanasuri Journal of Surgery
Introduction. Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the top life-threatening infectious diseases worldwide. Even after completion of treatment, numerous patients had post-TB sequelae as a consequence of lung damage during TB infection. We reported an uncommon case of secondary spontaneous tension pneumothorax in a patient with post-TB sequelae.
Case Presentation. A 68-year-old smoker man presented with sudden shortness of breath since 2 hours ago. He had a history of pulmonary TB 15 years ago which had completed antituberculosis treatment and had been experiencing symptoms associated with post-TB sequelae for the last 1 year. Physical examinations and chest X-ray showed tension pneumothorax. …

The number of HIV/AIDS cases in Indonesia has steadily increased since 1987. West Java Province, especially Bandung City, had the highest HIV/AIDS cases among other districts/cities in 2016. Some stakeholders' interventions overlap with others, leading to inefficient use of the limited government budget and flattening international donor funding. This study aimed to estimate the HIV/AIDS budget in Bandung City and then segregate the share of the budget by funding source and objectives. This study was a part of the Priority Setting Involving Stakeholder Using Multiple Criteria (PRISMA) project in 2017 to prioritize HIV/AIDS interventions knowing that Bandung City had the …

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the workload of health personnel in Indonesia, and the risk of burnout has thus doubled. Several instruments exist to assess burnout, but none have been specifically developed for health personnel during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, to close this gap, developing a Pandemic Burnout Inventory for health personnel is important. This study used mixed methods with a sequential exploratory design at five COVID-19 referral hospitals. A total of 30 informants were employed in the qualitative phase, selected using an intensity sampling approach, and 731 respondents in the quantitative phase were obtained in field trials and online …

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms In Plasmodium Falciparum Genes: Their Roles In Antimalarial Drugs Resistance And Recent Detection Strategies, Raihanny Andrea Zahra, Ananda Maulana Fanshur, Aurelia Maria Prajna Saraswati, Nurul Inayah Rahmani
Indonesian Journal of Medical Chemistry and Bioinformatics
Introduction: Malaria is a serious tropical disease with Plasmodium falciparum as its most well-known causative parasite for producing higher levels of late stage parasites that leads to sequestration in vital organs which could lead to death. There is a growing trend of antimalarial drugs resistance against Plasmodium falciparum. Molecular assessment using polymerase chain reaction could trace the presence of mutation and also determine single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in Plasmodium falciparum genes. This SNP can determine the particular population’s response to antimalarial drugs. Objectives: This study aims to examine the relationship between SNP in Plasmodium falciparum genes and antimalarial drugs resistance. …

Antibiotic resistance has dramatically spread in recent decades and has become a serious problem in modern medicine. Honeybee venom or bee venom (BV) has anticancer, anti-inflammation, and antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of BV on certain pathogenic bacteria. The effects of different concentrations of BV against Klebsiella pneumonia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus were evaluated by disk diffusion method (inhibition zone, IZ), minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC). Additionally, the antibacterial activity of BV was compared with that of ampicillin, penicillin, and tetracycline. The results indicated that different concentrations of BV had …

The SARS-Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak is a serious global public health threat. Researchers around the world are conducting mass research to control this epidemic, starting from the discovery of vaccines, to new drugs that have specific activities as antivirals. Drug repurposing is a potential method of using drugs with known activity for reuse as COVID-19 therapy. This method has the advantage that it can reduce costs and also the duration in the development of potential drugs. The initial step in drug repurposing can be done computationally to determine the effectiveness and specificity of the drug on the target protein. Molecular …
