Applications Of Genetic Algorithm To Quantum Mechanical Systems, Mehmet Şahi̇n, Ülfet Atav, Mehmet Tomak
Turkish Journal of Physics
Genetic algorithm (GA) inspired by the biological world is a general search and optimization method. It was first proposed by Holland in 1975. GA has been applied to many scientific areas especially in engineering optimization problems. It is also used in solving of quantum mechanical problems. In this study, we have applied this method to different realistic quantum mechanical problems of both self-consistent and non-self-consistent type. The results obtained are compared with the results of other methods and it is seen that the GA can be a very powerful alternative to some other traditional techniques such as variational method.

Turkish Journal of Biology
The study reports a 3-step optimization to find out the effects of cytokinins BAP and TDZ on seed germination and g rays to induce mutations in 4 pea cultivars: Winner, Sprinter, Bolero and Karina. It was observed that germination was independent of the dose of g rays and was mainly affected by the germination capability of the genotypes and doses of BAP and TDZ in the germination medium. Seed germination was better on germination medium containing 50 µM BAP than 10 µM TDZ. Variable rooting was observed on shoots obtained from non-irradiated seeds germinated on MS medium containing 50 µM …

Analysis Of The Effects Of Chromatin Modifying Complexes On The Transcription Of Retrotransposon Ty2-917 In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Sezai̇ Türkel, Bükay Yeni̇ce
Turkish Journal of Biology
Transcription of the yeast retrotransposon Ty2-917 is regulated by a complex set of regulatory regions located both upstream and downstream of the transcription initiation site. In this study, it was found that certain chromatin modifying factors are essential for the transcriptional regulation of Ty2-917. Among the chromatin binding factors tested in this research, non-histone proteins Nhp6A/B have the largest effect on the transcription of Ty2-917. In Dnhp6A/B double mutant yeast strain transcription of Ty2 decreased 20-fold, indicating that these non-histone proteins are essential for the transcription of Ty2-917. Furthermore, it was also shown that the transcription of Ty2-917 decreased by …

The Effect Of Ferrum (Feso_4) On Culture Mushroom: Pleurotus Ostreatus (Jacq.) Kumm., Abdunnasir Yildiz, Ömer Faruk Yeşi̇l
Turkish Journal of Biology
This study was conducted on the growth, ratio of protein and cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus on local celluosic wastes in different concentrations of the ferrous (Fe^{++}). It was observed that Fe^{++} had effect on the formation and growth of the basidiocarps. The shortest and longest period of basidiocarps formation and growth were obtained in 100 ppm and 300 ppm Fe^{++}, respectively. The higher total amount of yield was found for 100 ppm Fe^{++} when compared with control, 200 and 300 ppm Fe^{++}. Significant (P < 0.05) difference was found between the control and 100 ppm Fe^{++}, but the best yield was obtained. Mushroom protein ratio of all concentrations of ferrous (Fe^{++}) were found to be lower than control.
