Intraspecific Genetic Diversity Of The Oak Gall Wasp Andricus Lucidus (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae) Populations In Anatolia, Serap Mutun
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Intraspecific genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of Andricus lucidus haplotypes from Turkey were studied by PCR-RFLP analysis. A total of 26 haplotypes were detected among 144 individuals collected from 9 populations. The estimated average haplotype and nucleotide diversity within populations were 0.8089 and 0.115542, respectively. Nucleotide divergence estimates among the analyzed oak gall wasp populations ranged between 0.012% and 7.3%. Dendrograms indicated that there was a relationship between the geographical distribution of haplotypes and their clustering. AMOVA analysis for estimation of the partitioning of genetic differentiation at all different hierarchical levels was statistically significant. Analysis of variance revealed that the …

Skeletal muscle was investigated by SDS-PAGE protein electrophoresis for western versus eastern Turkish populations of the newt Ommatotriton ophryticus. The number of protein bands resolved was 25 in the west and 26 in the east. The modal number of trunk vertebrae was also compared among 10 populations of the eastern group (Artvin, Trabzon, Giresun, and Ordu) and 3 populations of the western group (Zonguldak, Bartın, and Karabük). The eastern group had 13 vertebrae except Şinik (Trabzon) specimens, which had 14 vertebrae, whereas the western group had 12 vertebrae. The genotoxic effects of sublethal doses of cadmium in peripheral erythrocytes of Oreochromis niloticus was investigated using micronucleus (MN) and nuclear abnormalities (NAs) tests. For this reason, the fish were exposed to medium changes of 0.5 and 1.0 mg/L doses of cadmium (Cd) during an average treatment period of 10 days. On the 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 10th days of the test period, the erythrocytes, including the micronuclei (MN) and other nuclear abnormalities such as lobbed nuclei (LB), blebbed nuclei (BL), and notched nuclei (NT), were counted and pointed out. The banding patterns of chromosomes of Microtus dogramacii, a recently described vole species endemic to Turkey, were studied. G-, C-, and Ag-NOR-banded patterns of this species are reported here for the first time. In this study, 2 karyotypical forms were determined. Each form had the same diploid chromosome numbers (2n = 48), but possessed different autosomal morphologies. For this reason, the samples collected from the research area were karyologically separated into 2 groups, cytotype-1 (NF = 50) and cytotype-2 (NF = 52). This study is based on the G-banding karyotype of 2 sibling bat species Myotis myotis (Borkhausen, 1797) (Greater Mouse-eared Myotis) and M. blythii (Tomes, 1857) (Lesser Mouse-eared Myotis) distributed in Turkey. G-banding karyotypes showed that the 2 taxa possessed identical G-banded chromosome arms. It was concluded that G-banded chromosomes are not sufficient as a diagnostic character for separating M. myotis from M. blythii.

Gross morphology of the gill was studied using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) in order to associate it with its function in genus Patella. Secondary gills consisted of a single layer of gill folds, which appear mostly as triangular leaflets in scanning electron micrographs. The lamellae showed a prominent thickening on the free margin and horizontal swellings, which bear a series of ciliary structures on the frontal surface, as well as disperse bunches. They differed from the discocilia and, because chemoreception has been attributed to them in the absence of an osphradium, they are thought to contribute to the primary …

Spermatheca and egg morphology of Eurygaster austriaca (Schrank, 1778) were studied by optical and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The spermatheca of E. austriaca is characterized by a spermathecal bulb, a pumping region, distal and proximal flanges and ducts, and a genital chamber. Each female was shown to deposit 14 green eggs on average in mass. The spherical eggs averaged 1.05 ± 0.05 mm in diameter. The first external evidence of embryonic development was the appearance of 2 red eye spots opposite each other beneath operculum followed by the appearance of a blackish T-shaped egg-burster between the eye spots. During the summer (July-August) of 2007, a total of 23 freshwater ostracods belonging to 14 genera were collected from 50 out of 90 different bodies of water in Diyarbakır. Of these 23 finds, Herpetocypris intermedia is a new report for Turkish ostracod fauna. In addition, 11 species (Ilyocypris decipiens, I. inermis, Eucypris virens, Herpetocypris brevicaudata, Psychrodromus fontinalis, Isocypris beauchampi, Potamocypris similis, P. unicaudata, P. arcuata, Limnocythere stationis, and L. inopinata) are reported from this city for the first time. Conditions for in vitro maturation (IVM) of primary oocytes without conventionally used fetal calf serum and hormones were optimized in order to reduce the cost of laboratory produced buffalo embryos. This experiment was carried out on 200 White Koluda geese, 1 day old, randomly divided into 2 groups with 50 males and 50 females in each group. Bovine anaplasmosis caused by Anaplasma marginale is considered to be an important disease in China; large-scale investigations have not been carried out since the 1990s, however, and whether or not yaks can be infected by A. marginale has never been investigated. In this study, 2 yaks were successfully infected by the inoculation of blood infected with A. marginale under experimental conditions. Association Analysis Of Aquaporin 7 (Aqp7) Gene Variants With Semen Quality And Fertility In Bulls, Tenghe Ma, Jifeng Liu, Ruifeng Zhao, Hao Jiang, Lisheng Dai, Yumin Zhao, Zhihui Zhao, Jiabao Zhang

Aquaporin 7 (AQP7) gene as a candidate Antifreeze gene was investigated and associated with fresh and frozen semen quality traits in 45 Simmental and Charolais bulls. PCR-SSCP, PCR-RFLP, and sequencing method were employed to detect the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the AQP7 gene. Two mutations, A264G and G371C, were identified. The allele frequencies were A (0.97, 0.96) to B (0.03, 0.04) and C (0.97, 0.91) to D (0.03, 0.09) in Simmental and Charolais bulls, respectively. A264G substitution was significantly associated with acrosome integrity ratio (P < 0.01) and motility (P < 0.05) in frozen semen. Meanwhile, G371C substitution was significantly associated with acrosome integrity ratio (P < 0.05), percentages of viable sperm (P < 0.05), and motility (P < 0.01) in frozen semen. The results prove that AQP7 gene SNPs are useful for marker-assisted selection in early seed selection in the bull industry.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of ovine placenta extract, obtained by affinity chromatography on immobilized wheat germ lectin, on mammogenesis, lactogenesis, and galactopoiesis in pregnant and lactating sheep. Placental extract (100 \mug/mL protein concentration) was subcutaneously injected to pregnant sheep in days 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13 of the experiment (totally 10 mL placenta extract/animal) alternatively on the right and left side of the neck. Placental extract induced a more intense development of udder parameters; udder circumference increase was of 16.73%, anteroposterior length increase was of 15.9%, and latero-lateral length of 11.1%. This study was conducted to determine selected haematological and biochemical parameters of pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) bred in Konya city in Turkey. Forty-five healthy pheasants of different ages (1, 5, and 12 months old) were examined. In the blood samples taken from these animals, haematological and biochemical values were determined. The aim of the present study was to provide a comparative description of the rabbit prostate complex and bulbourethral glands by means of ultrasonography, in order to obtain results that may be useful for the diagnosis of reproductive pathology in this species. The prostate and bulbourethral glands were studied sonographically in 12 sexually mature, clinically healthy male New Zealand rabbits that were 12 months old and weighed 2.8 to 3.2 kg. This paper addresses distributed deterministic consensus algorithms based on averaging. We relate the conditions for achieving consensus to the existence of a common norm for a set of row-stochastic matrices associated with the original set of averaging matrices. For a system to achieve consensus, it is shown that this associated set of matrices should have a Common Lyapunov Function, even if the original set might not have one.

This paper presents a new method for electrocardiogram (ECG) denoising based on bivariate shrinkage functions exploiting the interscale dependency of wavelet coefficients. Most nonlinear thresholding methods based on wavelet transform denoising assume that the wavelet coefficients are independent. However, wavelet coefficients of ECG signals have significant dependencies. Due to technical limitations, the best economical operation point is not always the desired operating point for system stability or power losses. In this paper, microassembly system design issues are discussed with requirements, constraints and necessities for the development of an assembly platform, and these issues are shown over a versatile and reconfigurable microassembly workstation which is designed and realized as a research tool for investigation of the problems in microassembly and micromanipulation tasks. To evaluate hypolipidemic and anti-oxidant activities of Monascus purpureus fermented Indian variety of rice. Materials and methods: Indian rice variety IR-532-E-576 was fermented with Monascus purpureus MTCC 1090 (Monascaceae) and extracted with water by boiling. Experimentally induced hyperlipidemia was produced by feeding rats with 2% cholesterol enriched diet for 15 days. To compare the serum levels of adiponectin and resistin between patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and healthy control subjects matched for age and body mass index (BMI), and to assess possible correlations of adiponectin and resistin to the hormonal and metabolic parameters of the syndrome.
