Grapevine dieback is an increasing problem in grape vineyards in Algeria. We conducted field surveys each spring between 2006 and 2012 to determine the fungal pathogens associated with grapevine decline in various grape-growing regions. We isolated and identified 3 species of Botryosphaeriaceae (Botryosphaeria dothidea, Diplodia seriata, and Neofusicoccum parvum) from infected wood using a combination of morphological and cultural characters, as well as phylogenetic analyses of ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and fruiting body. We identified 20 isolates of Diplodia seriata, 13 isolates of Botryosphaeria dothidea, and 7 isolates of Neofusicoccum parvum. Inoculation of grapevine plantlets with the …

A small library of new azomethine derivatives of 3-aryl-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones was synthesized. The key intermediates 2-thioxo-quinazolinones (3a--e), obtained in 2 steps from the corresponding anilines, were treated with methyl chloroacetate to afford S-substituted esters (4a,d), which were then converted into corresponding acetohydrazides (5a,d). Further, acetohydrazide (5d) was converted to the azomethines derivatives (6a--k) by reacting with a number of suitably substituted benzaldehydes. FTIR, ^1H NMR, ^{13}C NMR, GC-MS, and elemental analyses were used to confirm the assigned structures of the synthesized compounds. Further, compounds 3a, 5, and 6j were also confirmed by X-ray diffraction data.

3-Substituted-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-4-amines 2a--c were synthesized by treating 5-aminopyrazole-4-carbonitriles 1a--c with formamide. The reactivity of compounds 1a--c towards some cyclic anhydrides was studied. The condensation of 5-aminopyrazole-4-carbonitrile 1b with triethylorthoformate gives imidate 7b, which reacts with a series of primary amines and leads to pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine-4-amines 9 and 10. The reaction of imidate 7b with ammonia and hydroxylamine afforded pyrazolopyrimidine 2b and pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-5-(4H)-ol 11, respectively. The synthesized compounds were completely characterized by ^1H NMR, ^{13}C NMR, IR, and HRMS. The antibacterial activity of some new synthesized compounds was evaluated and appeared to be significant.

Bramatherium (Artiodactyla, Ruminantia, Giraffidae) From The Middle Siwaliks Of Hasnot, Pakistan: Biostratigraphy And Palaeoecology, Muhammad Akbar Khan, Muhammad Akhtar, Ammara Irum
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
We describe here new remains of the giraffid Bramatherium, from the late Miocene-early Pliocene of Hasnot, northern Pakistan. The fossil giraffid material from Hasnot represents 2 taxa of Bramatherium, B. megacephalum and B. grande. The Hasnot locality is characterised by high proportions of ruminants, namely Boselaphini, Antilopini, Sivatheriinae, Cervini, Dorcatherium, and Dorcabune. The Hasnot fossil ruminant assemblage is fairly typical for the Siwalik province and comparisons with the Greco-Iranian-Afghan and African palaeobiological provinces indicate a late Miocene-early Pliocene age. It is suggested that local Hasnot palaeoenvironments comprised wetlands to woodland biomes, perhaps devoid of expansive dense forests.

Crop losses caused by insects, pests, and pathogens remain one of the major problems in sustainable agriculture. Environmental and health concerns regarding the overuse of pesticides, and the impacts of climate change on epidemics are immediate pressing issues. In addition, the breakdown of plant resistance by pathogen populations brings limitations to the genetic control of diseases. Biologics can be effective in all types of agricultural systems including organic, sustainable, and conventional. Beneficial microorganisms including Bacillus and Trichoderma species have been employed as environmentally safe biopesticides. Molecular and proteomic studies on biopesticides have revealed the nature of antibiotics, secreted enzymes, and …

The Application For Fertilizer-Yield Relationships Of The Et-Yield Response Factor Equation, Ahmet Ertek
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
Many attempts have been made to understand the plant response to water using plant growth models. The effects of fertilizer on crop yield are greater than those of water. Therefore, some models that have been developed for the evaluation of water-yield relationships can also be used for fertilizer-yield relationships. The purpose of this study was to develop an equation to use in fertilizer applications similar to one used to evaluate crop production under adequate and deficit water supply regimes. The equation can be rewritten for the fertilizer consumed by plants instead of the evapotranspiration (ET). Sample applications showed that the …
