Investigation Of The Regulation Mechanism Of Arabidopsis Thaliana Anion Channel Slah2, Fen-Yong Yao, Guo-Ning Qi, Jamshaid Husssain

Turkish Journal of Botany

In recent years a slow-type anion channel (SLAC) family composing five members, including slow anion channel associated 1 (SLAC1) and four SLAC1 homologs (SLAHs), has been identified in Arabidopsis thaliana. The anion channels are activated by calcium-dependent protein kinases (CPKs) and play crucial roles in mediating anion fluxes across plasma membranes. SLAH2 is specifically expressed in root stele cells and has been characterized as a nitrate-selective anion channel activated by CPK21 and CBL-interacting protein kinase 23 (CIPK23). However, the interaction between CPKs and SLAH2 and how it is regulated remains to be elucidated. In this study we found that SLAH2 …

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease. To reduce side effects associated with current treatment modalities, new treatment methods are required. Some clinicians have begun to use microphototherapy to treat psoriatic patients with a limited number of lesions (lesions affecting <10% of the body surface area). Materials and methods: Microphototherapy is indicated in patients whose lesions persist despite systemic and topical treatment or when such treatment is contraindicated. Our study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of microphototherapy in psoriasis patients with localized lesions. Patients in this unblinded and prospective study were treated three times a week for 50 sessions using a MedLight CupCUBE Grimed microphototherapy device that emits an ultraviolet B (UVB) spectrum. Results: Forty-five lesions in 23 psoriatic patients were treated. Treatment outcome was evaluated based on the Psoriasis Severity Index (PSI). PSI scores decreased significantly during the treatment. Conclusion: The MedLight CupCUBE Grimed microphototherapy device was effective for the treatment of psoriasis patients with localized lesions. The device can administer UVB radiation to involved regions while protecting uninvolved regions and minimizing radiation dose. However, having to be administered by experienced technicians and the long time required for each treatment session are disadvantages of the technique.

Background/aim: The genetic background of Turner syndrome (TS) is highly variable. The correlation between genotype and phenotype is not yet well understood. The aim of this study was to describe the frequencies and distributions of Turner karyotypes and to discuss the phenotype/genotype relation in a very large group of individuals with TS. Materials and methods: The karyotype results of 248 female participants were evaluated retrospectively. Results: Of 248 females with the Turner phenotype, 14.5% had normal karyotypes and 85.5% had Turner karyotypes. About 72.2% of the abnormalities were numerical aberrations and 27.8% were structural aberrations. The most frequent karyotype was monosomy …
