Corrosion And Wear Behaviour Of Highly Porous Ti-Tib-Tin$_{\Mathbf{X}}$ In Situ Composites In Simulated Physiological Solution, Fati̇h Toptan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Highly porous Ti matrix composites can be a solution for some of the major clinical concerns for the load bearing implants such as low tribocorrosion resistance, stress shielding, and lack of biological anchorage. In order to respond to these needs, highly porous Ti-TiB-TiN$_{x}$ in-situ composites were synthesized by pressureless sintering using BN as reactant and urea as space holder. Corrosion behaviour was investigated at body temperature, in phosphate buffer saline solution (PBS), by measuring open circuit potential (OCP) and cyclic polarization. Wear behaviour was studied in PBS by reciprocating against a 10 mm diameter alumina ball under 3 N of …

Photochromic And Fluorescence Properties Of Coumarin Fulgimides, Khamis Nassor Ally, Leyla Öztürk, Mahmut Köse Jan 2020

Photochromic And Fluorescence Properties Of Coumarin Fulgimides, Khamis Nassor Ally, Leyla Öztürk, Mahmut Köse

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Four new fulgimides possessing a fluorescent coumarin unit were synthesized from the corresponding fulgides, and their photochromic as well as fluorescence properties were investigated. The open-ring forms of coumarin fulgimides were found to exhibit fluorescence in the visible region. Upon exposure to UV light, the fulgimides were transformed into the nonfluorescent closed-ring forms, which can be reverted to the initial fluorescent open-ring forms on exposure to visible light. The efficiency of quenching of fluorescence was as high as 95% at the photostationary state of UV irradiation.

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Marine compound dendrodoine was first obtained from tunicate species (Dendrodo grossularia). It has a five-membered ring, namely, it is a heterocycle thiadiazole, which is found rarely in natural sources. Following its biological activities, novel analogs have been investigated recently. Synthesis of the analogs for this study is realized with uncommon thiazole closure, including methylene-carbonyl condensation. Structures are elucidated by NMR (1H, 13C) and HRMS spectrums. As an alkaloid derivative, antioxidant properties were evaluated with DPPH and FRAP assays and antimicrobial effect with microdilution method. Among the series, 3bc-3cf showed higher antioxidant activity than those having 3 or 4-pyridyl substituents. There …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, boric acid (BA) is employed as a crosslinking agent to improve the characteristics of two commonly used polymeric films, ethyl cellulose (EC) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), for topical drug delivery applications. The developed films are characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and SEM analysis. The results show that the surfaces of the prepared films are even and transparent, except for the BA-modified EC sample. The initial cumulative release for erythromycin (EM) is found to be 0.30 and 0.36 mg/mL for EC and PVA films, which drops to 0.25 and 0.20 mg/mL after BA crosslinking, respectively, after 1 h at …

Preparation, Characterization, And Binding Profile Of Imprinted Semi-Ipn Cryogel Composite For Aluminum, Shahnila Shah, Huma Shaikh, Najma Memon, Muhammad Igbal Bhanger, Tahira Qureshi, Humaira Khan, Adi̇l Deni̇zli̇

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Human body is greatly exposed to aluminum due to its high abundance in the environment. This nonessential metal is a threat to the patients of chronic renal disorders, as it is easily retained in their plasma and quickly accumulates in different tissues. Thus, there is great need to remove it from the aqueous environment. In this study, Al$^{3+}$ imprinted semiinterpenetrating polymer network (semi-IPN)-based cryogel composite was prepared and applied for the purification of environmental and drinking water samples from aluminum. Poly (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHEMA) discs were produced via cryogenic treatment and imprinted semi-IPN was introduced to the 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl acrylate-modified …

Turkish Journal of Botany

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are byproducts of normal plant metabolism and their production is elevated under environmental stresses such as drought, extreme temperature, and salinity. Among these, salinity is a worldwide problem that impacts the fertility of arable lands and sustainability of food security, which is getting more attention due to climate change. Halophytes can survive and reproduce in soils containing high concentrations of salt and have developed adaptation mechanisms at physiological, biochemical, and molecular levels including maintenance of ROS metabolism. In this review, we aim to summarize findings related to ROS production, signaling, scavenging, and especially ROS avoidance mechanisms …

The Fluctuations Of Airborne Fungal Components In Western Romania, Nicoleta Ianovici Jan 2020

The Fluctuations Of Airborne Fungal Components In Western Romania, Nicoleta Ianovici

Turkish Journal of Botany

Outdoor regional concentrations of airborne fungal spores and fungal fragments were measured using the 7-day Lanzoni sampler. The daily and intradiurnal fluctuations recorded during the monitored period have been studied. The multiple regression analysis was performed in order to determine how much of the total variance in these concentrations could be explained by meteorological parameters. Daytime periodicity (statistically significant) was established only in a few cases. As the relative importance of the weather factors varied, they could not be ranked according to their effect.

Identification And Expressional Profiling Of Putative Max1 Gene In Sugar Beet (Beta Vulgaris L.), Ercan Selçuk Ünlü, Songül Gürel, Fatemeh Aflaki, Arman Pazuki, Günce Şahi̇n, Ekrem Gürel Jan 2020

Identification And Expressional Profiling Of Putative Max1 Gene In Sugar Beet (Beta Vulgaris L.), Ercan Selçuk Ünlü, Songül Gürel, Fatemeh Aflaki, Arman Pazuki, Günce Şahi̇n, Ekrem Gürel

Turkish Journal of Botany

Sugar beet is an industrial crop cultivated mostly for sucrose production. Today, modern hybridization applications have raised the sugar content to 20%. Considering the increased demand globally, it is required to develop new yield?increasing application strategies. This requires extensive knowledge of the genetic mechanisms to control plant growth and metabolism. Investigation of phytohormones is promising to increase our knowledge of plant growth and developmental processes. Strigolactones are recently introduced plant hormones. They are responsible for shoot and root architecture, and involved in development, communication, germination, and responses to stress. Four major proteins (AtD27, MAX1, MAX3, MAX4) are responsible for the …
