We investigated the effects of different placement methods of applying slow-release fertilizer on the growth and foliar nutrients of three contrasting tree species (i.e., fast-growing Betula platyphylla and Larix kaempferi and slow-growing Chamaecyparis obtusa) to provide implications for increasing their growth and survival in marginal forest lands. We applied 84 g pot-1 of solid compound fertilizer (SCF) at different positions: no fertilization (CON), subsurface placement (SCFs), and bottom placement [35-cm depth (SCFb)] in a greenhouse condition. Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3-4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). Heavy metals are hazardous pollutants for humans, animals and plants, when their threshold concentration exceeds. Tobacco can accumulate higher concentrations of heavy metals, and the genotypic differences of tobacco in heavy metal uptake and their growth responses have not been clearly examined. The cement dust deposition can cause environmental pollution and heavy metal contamination, which negatively impacts soil nutrient availability and hence crop productivity. Thus, this study evaluates the impact of cement dust emissions on soil elemental compositions in different tillage managements. In this study, composite soil samples were taken from conventional tillage (CT), and notill (NT) managed fields under wheat-sugar beet (potato)-fallow cropping sequence. Palynological characters of 20 taxa belonging to the Turkish subgenus Cyanus were studied in details using light and scanning electron microscopy. Pollen grains of the subgenus Cyanus were tricolporate or syncolporate, subprolate or prolate-spheroidal, 26.15 to 53 µm in polar size, 22.84 to 46.86 µm in equatorial size, isopolar, and radially symmetrical. The only type of pollen grain ornamentation observed was scabrate-perforate. Principal component analysis and cluster analysis were performed to investigate the relationships of the studied Cyanus taxa. Anthemis ekicii (Asteraceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Tuz Lake in Aksaray Province in Central Anatolia. The new species belongs to the section Anthemis, and it is closely related to A. pauciloba var. pauciloba, from which it differs in stem, leaves, and capitulum features. Diagnostic characters, description, detailed illustrations, ecology, IUCN conservation status, and pollen and seed morphology are presented in this study.

The global emergence of low water availability causes extensive damage to crops in many regions. Although the responses of plants to drought stress have been extensively investigated, molecular studies on plants with different carboxylation pathways are limited. Therefore, we aimed to identify quantitative differences in proteins functioning in differential drought tolerance of C3 (Cleome spinosa) and C4 (C. gynandra) species. Proteomic analysis functionally characterized 33 differentially accumulated proteins in C. spinosa and 15 proteins in C. gynandra leaves. Vitamin D2 (vit. D2) is a nutraceutical essentially needed for good health. However, it is susceptible to oxygen and high temperature. The use of natural products such as bioflavonoids possessing anti-degradative effect of vit. D2 degradation has not been described before. A combinational effect of vit. D2 with quercetin showed a positive effect and inhibited vit. D2 degradation when exposed to high temperature (50 oC and 75 oC) at different time points. The results obtained revealed vit. Background/aim: The aim of this descriptive article is to share the experience in Ege University, Turkey with favipiravir in the treatment of severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia. Materials and methods: This retrospective descriptive study included patients diagnosed with COVID-19 who presented with or developed severe pneumonia. Results: Forty patients who completed a full course (at least 5 days) of favipiravir were included in the study. At baseline, 30 (75%) patients required treatment for respiratory distress. Background/aim: Damage to elastin fibres in coronary media might lead to coronary artery ectasia (CAE). This study evaluated whether CAE can be distinguished by detecting circulating soluble elastin (s-elastin), which is a degradation product of elastin fibres, and elastase, which is the main enzyme of elastin fibres. Materials and methods: Fifty-eight patients with CAE, 58 with coronary heart disease (CHD) and 61 with relatively normal coronary arteries, were included. Background/aim: Isolated methylmalonic acidemia (MMA) is caused by complete or partial deficiency of the enzyme methylmalonylCoA mutase (mut0 or mut- enzymatic subtype), a defect of its cofactor adenosyl-cobalamin (cblA, cblB, or cblD-MMA), or deficiency of the enzyme methylmalonyl-CoA epimerase. While onset of the disease ranges from the neonatal period to adulthood, most cases present with lethargy, vomiting and ketoacidosis in the early infancy. Background/aim: The aim of this study was to compare renal and pancreatic apparent diffusion-coefficient (ADC) values of diabetic patients and control subjects and to examine their potential association with several diabetes-related clinical parameters. Materials and methods: A total of 80 sex- and age-matched patients were included in the study. Of them, 40 were patients with type 2 diabetes and 40 were nondiabetic participants. This study aimed to describe the impact of intraoperative blood loss on the postoperative course of liver resection (LR). Materials and methods: The data of 257 patients who were treated with LR between January 2007 and October 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. LRs were performed via intermittent portal triad clamping (PTC) under low central venous pressure. Adverse effects related to these methods, impact on the labor, and perception of pain is well studied in the literature.
