Ticks, being hematophagous ectoparasites, are notorious vectors that transmit an array of pathogenic viruses, bacteria, and protozoa while simultaneously exhibiting a zoonotic potential by transmitting pathogens that affect the health of owners in contact. The distribution of ixodid ticks of the genera Rhipicephalus and Haemaphysalis spp. in tropical climate of the state contributes to many serious tick-borne parasitic and rickettsial infections in domestic and wild canines. In south India, canine babesiosis is one of the most prevalent vector-borne parasitic diseases. Detection of parasites in tick vectors has significant epidemiological implications. The present study was designed to identify the presence of …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Sheeppox is an economically important disease of small ruminants caused by the sheeppox virus (SPPV). Sheeppox virus (SPPV), goatpox virus, and lumpy skin disease virus are capripoxviruses, antigenically related but genetically distinct. Their differentiation requires analysis at a molecular level. Eleven sheeppox virus isolates from five different regions of Tunisia were collected between 2010 and 2016. SPPV was detected by real-time PCR using SYBR Green technology. Primers amplifying the entire Kelch-like gene were designed. Then the GPCR, RPO30, P32, ORF117, and Kelch-like genes were molecularly analyzed to show the different specific lineage patterns of each species. Phylogenetic analyses revealed three …

Background/aim: Erythema nodosum (EN) is an inflammatory disorder of subcutaneous tissue. Although etiopathogenesis of the disease is unknown, many predisposing factors such as infections, systemic disease, and drugs have been identified. Neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) has been shown to be a novel inflammatory marker in many dermatological diseases. The aim of our study is to investigate NLR in EN patients and evaluate its relation to the underlying cause of the disease.Materials and methods: Between 2014 and 2018, clinical and laboratory data of 395 patients diagnosed with EN and 395 controls were extracted from patient files. EN patients were grouped …

A Case Of Ex Vivo Boosted Immune Cell Therapy For Chronic Ulcerative Dermatitis In A Dog, Seulgi Bae
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
A 13-year-old castrated male Shih Tzu was presented with recurrent otitis externa and ulcerative dermatitis. Previous investigations had failed to identify the cause, and the lesion was resistant to treatment. According to the histopathological examination, a tentative diagnosis of chronic ulcerative dermatitis with bacterial infection was made. To treat the patient, immune cell therapy with antibiotics was conducted every 2 weeks, for a total of six sessions. After treatment, the skin lesion resolved. No side effects were observed during therapy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of the use of immune cell therapy for …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The aim of this study was to evaluate the serological diagnostic potential of the Brucella recombinant outer membrane (rOMP25, rOMP31) and periplasmic proteins (rBP26, rSOD) in a comparative way using an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (i-ELISA). Rabbit and/or mouse antibodies to Brucella whole cell and/or soluble protein preparations recognized all recombinant proteins used, which confirms the expression of target antigens in E. coli in active form. The recombinant proteins showed different antigenicity to antibodies of cattle kept on a brucellosis-affected (endemic) farm and/or a new focus of infection. Thus, the presence of anti-Brucella antibodies was confirmed by i-ELISA/rSOD in 79% …

The HIV-infected population is aging, and the concomitant comorbidities increase the likelihood of polypharmacy. There is a scarcity of data for determining drug-related problems in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out between 1 September 2015 and 1 July 2016. All patients underwent a face-to-face interview with a clinical pharmacist. PCNE Classification V 7.0 was used classify incident drug-related problems (DRPs). Results: The mean age of the patients was 40.4 ± 13.06 years. The rate of polypharmacy was 66.1% in patients with comorbidities and 12.3% in those without comorbidities (P < 0.001). DRPs were more prominent in older patients (46 vs. 37 years, P < 0.001), those with longer durations of antiretroviral therapy (ART) (45 vs. 27 months, P = 0.014), and those with lower education levels (P = 0.013). Receiving >3 ART drugs …

A series of 3-mercapto-1,2,4-triazole--pyrrole hybrids was designed as antimycobacterial agents by employing 5-(4-(1$H$-pyrrol-1-yl)phenyl)-4$H$-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol as the scaffold onto which several types of moieties were introduced in the triazole ring at N-4 and N-2 and as substituents of the mercapto function. The aforementioned moieties are an allyl or a phenyl moiety at N-4; an aminomethyl group at N-2; or methyl, substituted benzyl, ethoxycarbonylmethyl, or substituted phenacyl at sulfur. Investigation of the compounds in the resulting library as growth inhibitors of Mycobacterium smegmatis showed that their minimum inhibitory concentration was higher than 64 mg/L.

A fast and easy method was validated for simultaneous determination of ciprofloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate (CP), levofloxacin hemihydrate (LV), and N-acetylcysteine (NAC) in samples. The analysis was performed on a C$_{18}$ column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 μm) (Inertsil ODS-3V) using an isocratic elution method with a mobile phase composed of 25 mM KH$_{2}$PO$_{4}$ (pH 3.0) and methanol (72:28, v/v) at a flow rate of 1 mL/min. UV detection was performed at 214 nm for NAC and 293 nm for CP and LV. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision (repeatability and reproducibility), specificity, sensitivity, and stability. The calibration study …
