Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A novel electrochemical nanogenosensor devoted to clinical analysis is reported for label-free detection of pathogenic microorganisms in the present work. The designed biosensor is composed of graphene oxide-modified disposable pencil graphite electrodes as a sensing platform. Escherichia coli is used as a model case. A 5ʹ-aminohexyl-linked 22-base sequence probe representing the E. coli amplicon is immobilized onto sensor surfaces via carbodiimide chemistry. Hybridization is performed with denatured PCR amplicons of the bacteria. Detection is realized by transduction with the electrochemical impedance spectrometry technique. The selectivity of the designed genosensor is measured using Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Klebsiella pneumoniae sequences. Outstanding sensitivity …

Breast cancer is the most common cancer type and the major cause of death in females worldwide. For effective breast cancer treatment, systems with promising delivery of anticancer agents is an important strategy. Peptide 18 (P18), a tumor homing peptide, shows high binding affinity towards breast cancer cells. Nanoliposomes are known to have enhanced accumulation ability in tumors with longer systemic circulation. Poly (2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) (PEtOx) polymers conjugated with DOPE were used to prepare PEtOx-DOPE nanoliposomes. BikDD is a mutant form of Bik gene, a member of the BH3-only proapoptotic genes, mimics the constitutively phosphorylated form of the gene. To the …

The Kashmir Himalayas, a region of immense ecological importance, have experienced profound degradation by land-use changes, raising concerns about sustainability. This degradation carries significant global implications, including carbon loss, soil quality deterioration, habitat destruction, and loss of biodiversity. This study investigates various key land uses, including economically vital cash crops such as apples and saffron, the socially significant staple food crop rice, forest, and pasture systems. Findings reveals that forest and pasture maintain significantly better physical, chemical, microbial, and enzymes activities, and exhibit greater soil nutrient reserves and soil organic carbon (SOC) pools. Specifically, forest soils contain 20.21%, 28.22%, and …

Cow behavior is a crucial indicator for monitoring health, reproductive status, and welfare in livestock management. However, methods that rely on wearable devices often face significant challenges, including high costs, maintenance difficulties, and potential impacts on animal welfare. To address these limitations, this study explored the potential of using YOLOv8, a cutting-edge computer vision model, for non-invasive monitoring of cow behavior. The research methodology involved four key steps: data collection, preliminary data processing, model training, and validation. The findings revealed that YOLOv8 is capable of accurately detecting and localizing key cow behaviors—lying, standing, eating, and ruminating—achieving a mean average precision …
