Winter Vegetable Cookery, Mary A. Dolve Sep 1926

Winter Vegetable Cookery, Mary A. Dolve

SDSU Extension Circulars

Eat and serve more vegetables. Eat and serve them every day because they are rich in mineral matter, which the body must have to build and repair bones, teeth and other t issues and to keep it in good running order. They also contain vitamins necessary for health and normal growth and development of the body. Because of their bulk, vegetables also help to prevent constipation. A variety of vegetables is available to the South Dakota homemakers during the winter if they will but look ahead for them. The garden should be planned with the idea of storing and canning …

Phases Of Poultry Work (Range And Housing Of Chicks), Extension Service, South Dakota State College Jan 1926

Phases Of Poultry Work (Range And Housing Of Chicks), Extension Service, South Dakota State College

SDSU Extension Circulars

If a brooder house is used the chicks may be housed in it until time to put the pullets into winter quarters, providing the cockerels have been taken out. A brooder house 10 X 12 will accommodate 350 chicks, but that is not room enough for more than 35 to 40 pullets. Much loss is often due to overcrowded conditions. (See more in text.)

The Relative Feeding Value Of Ground Soybeans And Soybean Oilmeal For Milk And Butterfat Production By The Dairy Cow, Harold J. Brooks Jan 1926

The Relative Feeding Value Of Ground Soybeans And Soybean Oilmeal For Milk And Butterfat Production By The Dairy Cow, Harold J. Brooks

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development of the soybean to a crop of great importance the past few years has been more rapid, perhaps, than that of any other plant. Most particularly is this true of its rise in the United States. Figures from the U.S. Yearbook show that in 1917 there were only 460,000 acres of the crop planted for all purposes, this however representing a 50% increase over 1916. In 1924, 2,566,000 acres were planted for all purposes, and 1925 figures show a greater increase of 25%. Theacreage for seed production alone increased from 168,000 acres in 1919 to 452,000 acres in …

Hog Lice And Hog Mange, G. S. Weaver Jan 1926

Hog Lice And Hog Mange, G. S. Weaver

SDSU Extension Circulars

External Parasites of hogs cause an extensive loss to the hog industry. A hog that spends all of his time scratching instead of eating does not do well. These parasites set up such an irritation that the hog is constantly rubbing he will not take on flesh rapidly. Hogs that are infested with external parasites do not sell well on the market because when they are butchered they are very hard to scrape. Furthermore, a No. 1 ham cannot be made from a mangy hog because it is necessary to take the skin off the ham.
