Structural Relationships For National And Regional Beef Cattle Production, John E. Trierweiler, Donald B. Erickson Jun 1965

Structural Relationships For National And Regional Beef Cattle Production, John E. Trierweiler, Donald B. Erickson

Agricultural Experiment Station Technical Bulletins (1939-2011)

Changes have occurred in recent years which have produced changes in the beef industry. Structural relationships that existed for the producer-feeder are not necessarily important in the operation of the cow-calf operator or the feed-lot operator. Because of these changes, a more thorough knowledge of the supply response of a small regional breakdown of the beef cattle industry should be available to farmers, econmists, outlook workers and policy makers in the agricultural industry. The study examines cow-calf operations and feed-lot operations to investigate U.S. beef calf production and develop an economic model for number of beef calves produced by region …

It is appropriate that the annual agri-business day program address itself to the current status and future potential of South Dakota's largest industry, the meat animal business. The 1965 program is the fourth in a series designed to probe opportunities for increased economic development of human and physical resources in our state. If maximum development is to take place, we must study every resource, discuss it, and then determine how we might harness it to fit man's social, cultural, and economic goals. South Dakota State University is proud of its long tradition of helping individuals and groups solve problems. But …

Indexing Beef Cattle (Revised March 1965), C. A. Dinkel, J. A. Minyard

Agricultural Experiment Station Circulars (1920-1915)

The primary purpose of this circular is to furnish some simplifications in the procedure presently in use in South Dakota for indexing beef cattle. As more data become available, these methods may change and in that event, supplements will be distributed. Such differences as exist between the shortcut methods presented here and those presently in use will be pointed out as they are taken up in the circular. The methods presented here are based on data taken in private herds in the state as well as in Experiment Station herds. Where there appeared to be a difference, data from private …
