Turn-It-Up: Rendering Resistance For Knobs In Virtual Reality Through Undetectable Pseudo-Haptics, Martin Feick, Andre Zenner, Oscar Ariza, Anthony Tang, Cihan Biyikli, Antonio Kruger

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Rendering haptic feedback for interactions with virtual objects is an essential part of effective virtual reality experiences. In this work, we explore providing haptic feedback for rotational manipulations, e.g., through knobs. We propose the use of a Pseudo-Haptic technique alongside a physical proxy knob to simulate various physical resistances. In a psychophysical experiment with 20 participants, we found that designers can introduce unnoticeable offsets between real and virtual rotations of the knob, and we report the corresponding detection thresholds. Based on these, we present the Pseudo-Haptic Resistance technique to convey physical resistance while applying only unnoticeable pseudo-haptic manipulation. Additionally, we …

Privacy-Preserving Bloom Filter-Based Keyword Search Over Large Encrypted Cloud Data, Yanrong Liang, Jianfeng Ma, Yinbin Miao, Da Kuang, Xiangdong Meng, Robert H. Deng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

To achieve the search over encrypted data in cloud server, Searchable Encryption (SE) has attracted extensive attention from both academic and industrial fields. The existing Bloom filter-based SE schemes can achieve similarity search, but will generally incur high false positive rates, and even leak the privacy of values in Bloom filters (BF). To solve the above problems, we first propose a basic Privacy-preserving Bloom filter-based Keyword Search scheme using the Circular Shift and Coalesce-Bloom Filter (CSC-BF) and Symmetric-key Hidden Vector Encryption (SHVE) technology (namely PBKS), which can achieve effective search while protecting the values in BFs. Then, we design a …

Understanding The Impact Of Trade Policy Effect Uncertainty On Firm-Level Innovation Investment: A Deep Learning Approach, Daniel. Chen, Nan Hu, Peng. Liang, Morgan. Swink Nov 2023

Understanding The Impact Of Trade Policy Effect Uncertainty On Firm-Level Innovation Investment: A Deep Learning Approach, Daniel. Chen, Nan Hu, Peng. Liang, Morgan. Swink

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Integrating the real options perspective and resource dependence theory, this study examines how firms adjust their innovation investments to trade policy effect uncertainty (TPEU), a less studied type of firm specific, perceived environmental uncertainty in which managers have difficulty predicting how potential policy changes will affect business operations. To develop a text-based, context-dependent, time-varying measure of firm-level perceived TPEU, we apply Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT), a state-of-the-art deep learning approach. We apply BERT to analyze the texts of mandatory Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) sections of annual reports for a sample of 22,669 firm-year observations from 3,181 unique …

Voxelhap: A Toolkit For Constructing Proxies Providing Tactile And Kinesthetic Haptic Feedback In Virtual Reality, M. Feick, C. Biyikli, K. Gani, A. Wittig, Anthony Tang, A. Krüger Nov 2023

Voxelhap: A Toolkit For Constructing Proxies Providing Tactile And Kinesthetic Haptic Feedback In Virtual Reality, M. Feick, C. Biyikli, K. Gani, A. Wittig, Anthony Tang, A. Krüger

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Experiencing virtual environments is often limited to abstract interactions with objects. Physical proxies allow users to feel virtual objects, but are often inaccessible. We present the VoxelHap toolkit which enables users to construct highly functional proxy objects using Voxels and Plates. Voxels are blocks with special functionalities that form the core of each physical proxy. Plates increase a proxy’s haptic resolution, such as its shape, texture or weight. Beyond providing physical capabilities to realize haptic sensations, VoxelHap utilizes VR illusion techniques to expand its haptic resolution. We evaluated the capabilities of the VoxelHap toolkit through the construction of a range …

Npf-200: A Multi-Modal Eye Fixation Dataset And Method For Non-Photorealistic Videos, Ziyu Yang, Sucheng Ren, Zongwei Wu, Nanxuan Zhao, Junle Wang, Jing Qin, Shengfeng He

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Non-photorealistic videos are in demand with the wave of the metaverse, but lack of sufficient research studies. This work aims to take a step forward to understand how humans perceive nonphotorealistic videos with eye fixation (i.e., saliency detection), which is critical for enhancing media production, artistic design, and game user experience. To fill in the gap of missing a suitable dataset for this research line, we present NPF-200, the first largescale multi-modal dataset of purely non-photorealistic videos with eye fixations. Our dataset has three characteristics: 1) it contains soundtracks that are essential according to vision and psychological studies; 2) it …

Followupqg: Towards Information-Seeking Follow-Up Question Generation, Yan Meng, Liangming Pan, Yixin Cao, Min-Yen Kan

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Humans ask follow-up questions driven by curiosity, which reflects a creative human cognitive process. We introduce the task of realworld information-seeking follow-up question generation (FQG), which aims to generate follow-up questions seeking a more in-depth understanding of an initial question and answer. We construct FOLLOWUPQG, a dataset1 of over 3K real-world (initial question, answer, follow-up question) tuples collected from a Reddit forum providing layman-friendly explanations for open-ended questions. In contrast to existing datasets, questions in FOLLOWUPQG use more diverse pragmatic strategies to seek information, and they also show higher-order cognitive skills (such as applying and relating). We evaluate current question …

Matk: The Meme Analytical Tool Kit, Ming Shan Hee, Aditi Kumaresan, Nguyen Khoi Hoang, Nirmalendu Prakash, Rui Cao, Roy Ka-Wei Lee

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

The rise of social media platforms has brought about a new digital culture called memes. Memes, which combine visuals and text, can strongly influence public opinions on social and cultural issues. As a result, people have become interested in categorizing memes, leading to the development of various datasets and multimodal models that show promising results in this field. However, there is currently a lack of a single library that allows for the reproduction, evaluation, and comparison of these models using fair benchmarks and settings. To fill this gap, we introduce the Meme Analytical Tool Kit (MATK), an open-source toolkit specifically …

Partial Annotation-Based Video Moment Retrieval Via Iterative Learning, Wei Ji, Renjie Liang, Lizi Liao, Hao Fei, Fuli Feng Nov 2023

Partial Annotation-Based Video Moment Retrieval Via Iterative Learning, Wei Ji, Renjie Liang, Lizi Liao, Hao Fei, Fuli Feng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Given a descriptive language query, Video Moment Retrieval (VMR) aims to seek the corresponding semantic-consistent moment clip in the video, which is represented as a pair of the start and end timestamps. Although current methods have achieved satisfying performance, training these models heavily relies on the fully-annotated VMR datasets. Nonetheless, precise video temporal annotations are extremely labor-intensive and ambiguous due to the diverse preferences of different annotators.Although there are several works trying to explore weakly supervised VMR tasks with scattered annotated frames as labels, there is still much room to improve in terms of accuracy. Therefore, we design a new …

Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network With Multi-View Representation Learning, Zezhi Shao, Yongjun Xu, Wei Wei, Fei Wang, Zhao Zhang, Feida Zhu Nov 2023

Heterogeneous Graph Neural Network With Multi-View Representation Learning, Zezhi Shao, Yongjun Xu, Wei Wei, Fei Wang, Zhao Zhang, Feida Zhu

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In recent years, graph neural networks (GNNs)-based methods have been widely adopted for heterogeneous graph (HG) embedding, due to their power in effectively encoding rich information from a HG into the low-dimensional node embeddings. However, previous works usually easily fail to fully leverage the inherent heterogeneity and rich semantics contained in the complex local structures of HGs. On the one hand, most of the existing methods either inadequately model the local structure under specific semantics, or neglect the heterogeneity when aggregating information from the local structure. On the other hand, representations from multiple semantics are not comprehensively integrated to obtain …

Ppdf: A Privacy-Preserving Cloud-Based Data Distribution System With Filtering, Yudi Zhang, Willy Susilo, Fuchun Guo, Guomin Yang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Cloud computing has emerged as a popular choice for distributing data among both individuals and companies. Ciphertext-policy attribute-based encryption (CP-ABE) has been extensively used to provide data security and enable fine-grained access control. With this encryption technique, only users whose attributes satisfy the access policy can access the plaintext. In order to mitigate the computational overhead on users, particularly on lightweight devices, partial decryption has been introduced, where the cloud assists in performing the decryption computations without revealing sensitive information. However, in this process, the cloud obtains the user's attributes, thus infringing on the user's privacy. To address this issue, …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This work demonstrates the VGGlass system, which simultaneously interprets human instructions for a target acquisition task and determines the precise 3D positions of both user and the target object. This is achieved by utilizing LiDARs mounted in the infrastructure and a smart glass device worn by the user. Key to our system is the union of LiDAR-based localization termed LiLOC and a multi-modal visual grounding approach termed RealG(2)In-Lite. To demonstrate the system, we use Intel RealSense L515 cameras and a Microsoft HoloLens 2, as the user devices. VGGlass is able to: a) track the user in real-time in a global …

Tail Risk Hedging: The Search For Cheap Options, Poh Ling Neo, Chyng Wen Tee Nov 2023

Tail Risk Hedging: The Search For Cheap Options, Poh Ling Neo, Chyng Wen Tee

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

The authors find that a simple heuristic of sorting liquid equity options by dollar price to construct a portfolio of cheap put options leads to a surprisingly robust hedge for tail risk – the superior performance holds even when compared against more advanced empirical strategies. Further investigation reveals the asymmetry in market correlation under different market conditions as the mechanism of this robust hedging performance. The cheap options selected by the heuristic comprises of stocks with diverse firm characteristics. The correlation spike accompanying tail risk events leads to the majority of these put options moving into-the-money (ITM), thus compensating the …

Hrgcn: Heterogeneous Graph-Level Anomaly Detection With Hierarchical Relation-Augmented Graph Neural Networks, Jiaxi Li, Guansong Pang, Ling Chen, Mohammad-Reza Namazi-Rad

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This work considers the problem of heterogeneous graph-level anomaly detection. Heterogeneous graphs are commonly used to represent behaviours between different types of entities in complex industrial systems for capturing as much information about the system operations as possible. Detecting anomalous heterogeneous graphs from a large set of system behaviour graphs is crucial for many real-world applications like online web/mobile service and cloud access control. To address the problem, we propose HRGCN, an unsupervised deep heterogeneous graph neural network, to model complex heterogeneous relations between different entities in the system for effectively identifying these anomalous behaviour graphs. HRGCN trains a hierarchical …

Rigid: Recurrent Gan Inversion And Editing Of Real Face Videos, Yangyang Xu, Shengfeng He, Kwan-Yee K. Wong, Pingluo Luo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

GAN inversion is indispensable for applying the powerful editability of GAN to real images. However, existing methods invert video frames individually often leading to undesired inconsistent results over time. In this paper, we propose a unified recurrent framework, named Recurrent vIdeo GAN Inversion and eDiting (RIGID), to explicitly and simultaneously enforce temporally coherent GAN inversion and facial editing of real videos. Our approach models the temporal relations between current and previous frames from three aspects. To enable a faithful real video reconstruction, we first maximize the inversion fidelity and consistency by learning a temporal compensated latent code. Second, we observe …

Understanding The Effect Of Counterfactual Explanations On Trust And Reliance On Ai For Human-Ai Collaborative Clinical Decision Making, Min Hun Lee, Chong Jun Chew Oct 2023

Understanding The Effect Of Counterfactual Explanations On Trust And Reliance On Ai For Human-Ai Collaborative Clinical Decision Making, Min Hun Lee, Chong Jun Chew

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly being considered to assist human decision-making in high-stake domains (e.g. health). However, researchers have discussed an issue that humans can over-rely on wrong suggestions of the AI model instead of achieving human AI complementary performance. In this work, we utilized salient feature explanations along with what-if, counterfactual explanations to make humans review AI suggestions more analytically to reduce overreliance on AI and explored the effect of these explanations on trust and reliance on AI during clinical decision-making. We conducted an experiment with seven therapists and ten laypersons on the task of assessing post-stroke survivors' quality …

Robust Bidirectional Poly-Matching, Ween Jiann Lee, Maksim Tkachenko, Hady Wirawan Lauw Oct 2023

Robust Bidirectional Poly-Matching, Ween Jiann Lee, Maksim Tkachenko, Hady Wirawan Lauw

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

A fundamental problem in many scenarios is to match entities across two data sources. It is frequently presumed in prior work that entities to be matched are of comparable granularity. In this work, we address one-to-many or poly-matching in the scenario where entities have varying granularity. A distinctive feature of our problem is its bidirectional nature, where the 'one' or the 'many' could come from either source arbitrarily. Moreover, to deal with diverse entity representations that give rise to noisy similarity values, we incorporate novel notions of receptivity and reclusivity into a robust matching objective. As the optimal solution to …

Constructing Cyber-Physical System Testing Suites Using Active Sensor Fuzzing, Fan. Zhang, Qianmei. Wu, Bohan. Xuan, Yuqi. Chen, Wei. Lin, Christopher M. Poskitt, Jun Sun, Binbin. Chen Oct 2023

Constructing Cyber-Physical System Testing Suites Using Active Sensor Fuzzing, Fan. Zhang, Qianmei. Wu, Bohan. Xuan, Yuqi. Chen, Wei. Lin, Christopher M. Poskitt, Jun Sun, Binbin. Chen

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) automating critical public infrastructure face a pervasive threat of attack, motivating research into different types of countermeasures. Assessing the effectiveness of these countermeasures is challenging, however, as benchmarks are difficult to construct manually, existing automated testing solutions often make unrealistic assumptions, and blindly fuzzing is ineffective at finding attacks due to the enormous search spaces and resource requirements. In this work, we propose active sensor fuzzing , a fully automated approach for building test suites without requiring any a prior knowledge about a CPS. Our approach employs active learning techniques. Applied to a real-world water treatment system, …

Unsupervised Anomaly Detection In Medical Images With A Memory-Augmented Multi-Level Cross-Attentional Masked Autoencoder, Yu Tian, Guansong Pang, Yuyuan Liu, Chong Wang, Yuanhong Chen, Fengbei Liu, Rajvinder Singh, Johan W. Verjans, Mengyu Wang, Gustavo Carneiro Oct 2023

Unsupervised Anomaly Detection In Medical Images With A Memory-Augmented Multi-Level Cross-Attentional Masked Autoencoder, Yu Tian, Guansong Pang, Yuyuan Liu, Chong Wang, Yuanhong Chen, Fengbei Liu, Rajvinder Singh, Johan W. Verjans, Mengyu Wang, Gustavo Carneiro

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Unsupervised anomaly detection (UAD) aims to find anomalous images by optimising a detector using a training set that contains only normal images. UAD approaches can be based on reconstruction methods, self-supervised approaches, and Imagenet pre-trained models. Reconstruction methods, which detect anomalies from image reconstruction errors, are advantageous because they do not rely on the design of problem-specific pretext tasks needed by self-supervised approaches, and on the unreliable translation of models pre-trained from non-medical datasets. However, reconstruction methods may fail because they can have low reconstruction errors even for anomalous images. In this paper, we introduce a new reconstruction-based UAD approach …

Diffuse3d: Wide-Angle 3d Photography Via Bilateral Diffusion, Yutao Jiang, Yang Zhou, Yuan Liang, Wenxi Liu, Jianbo Jiao, Yuhui Quan, Shengfeng He

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

This paper aims to resolve the challenging problem of wide-angle novel view synthesis from a single image, a.k.a. wide-angle 3D photography. Existing approaches rely on local context and treat them equally to inpaint occluded RGB and depth regions, which fail to deal with large-region occlusion (i.e., observing from an extreme angle) and foreground layers might blend into background inpainting. To address the above issues, we propose Diffuse3D which employs a pre-trained diffusion model for global synthesis, while amending the model to activate depth-aware inference. Our key insight is to alter the convolution mechanism in the denoising process. We inject depth …

Towards An Effective And Interpretable Refinement Approach For Dnn Verification, Jiaying Li, Guangdong Bai, Long H. Pham, Jun Sun Oct 2023

Towards An Effective And Interpretable Refinement Approach For Dnn Verification, Jiaying Li, Guangdong Bai, Long H. Pham, Jun Sun

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Recently, several abstraction refinement techniques have been proposed to improve the verification precision for deep neural networks (DNNs). However, these techniques usually take many refinement steps to verify a property and the refinement decision in each step is hard to interpret, thus hindering their analysis, reasoning and optimization. In this work, we propose SURGEON, a novel DNN verification refinement approach that is both effective and interpretable, allowing analyst to understand why and how each refinement decision is made. The main insight is to leverage the ‘interpretable’ nature of debugging processes and formulate the verification refinement problem as a debugging problem. Given …

Configuring Timing Parameters To Ensure Execution-Time Opacity In Timed Automata, Étienne André, Engel Lefaucheux, Didier Lime, Dylan Marinho, Jun Sun Oct 2023

Configuring Timing Parameters To Ensure Execution-Time Opacity In Timed Automata, Étienne André, Engel Lefaucheux, Didier Lime, Dylan Marinho, Jun Sun

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Timing information leakage occurs whenever an attacker successfully deduces confidential internal information by observing some timed information such as events with timestamps. Timed automata are an extension of finite-state automata with a set of clocks evolving linearly and that can be tested or reset, making this formalism able to reason on systems involving concurrency and timing constraints. In this paper, we summarize a recent line of works using timed automata as the input formalism, in which we assume that the attacker has access (only) to the system execution time. First, we address the following execution-time opacity problem: given a timed …

Hallucination Detection: Robustly Discerning Reliable Answers In Large Language Models, Yuyuan Chen, Qiang Fu, Yichen Yuan, Zhihao Wen, Ge Fan, Dayiheng Liu, Dongmei Zhang, Zhixu Li, Yanghua Xiao

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Large language models (LLMs) have gained widespread adoption in various natural language processing tasks, including question answering and dialogue systems. However, a major drawback of LLMs is the issue of hallucination, where they generate unfaithful or inconsistent content that deviates from the input source, leading to severe consequences. In this paper, we propose a robust discriminator named RelD to effectively detect hallucination in LLMs' generated answers. RelD is trained on the constructed RelQA, a bilingual question-answering dialogue dataset along with answers generated by LLMs and a comprehensive set of metrics. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed RelD successfully detects …

Owner-Free Distributed Symmetric Searchable Encryption Supporting Conjunctive Queries, Qiuyun Tong, Xinghua Li, Yinbin Miao, Yunwei Wang, Ximeng Liu, Robert H. Deng

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Symmetric Searchable Encryption (SSE), as an ideal primitive, can ensure data privacy while supporting retrieval over encrypted data. However, existing multi-user SSE schemes require the data owner to share the secret key with all query users or always be online to generate search tokens. While there are some solutions to this problem, they have at least one weakness, such as non-supporting conjunctive query, result decryption assistance of the data owner, and unauthorized access. To solve the above issues, we propose an Owner-free Distributed Symmetric searchable encryption supporting Conjunctive query (ODiSC). Specifically, we first evaluate the Learning-Parity-with-Noise weak Pseudorandom Function (LPN-wPRF) …

Problems In Microservice Development: Supporting Visualisation, Oscar Manglaras, Alex Farkas, Peter Fule, Christoph Treude, Markus Wagner

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

In microservice architectures, developers can face significant problems understanding the structure of the system and how the different microservices interact. This difficulty results from the distributed nature of the system, and the abundance of inter-service communication within the architecture. We want to determine if network visualisations can address these problems given their ability to convey complex topologies. However, to identify what architectural characteristics should be visualised, and how this should be done, we must first determine the needs of microservice developers. This paper identifies and presents the impact and frequency of problems faced by a cohort of microservice developers using …

Stprivacy: Spatio-Temporal Privacy-Preserving Action Recognition, Ming Li, Xiangyu Xu, Hehe Fan, Pan Zhou, Jun Liu, Jia-Wei Liu, Jiahe Li, Jussi Keppo, Mike Zheng Shou, Shuicheng Yan Oct 2023

Stprivacy: Spatio-Temporal Privacy-Preserving Action Recognition, Ming Li, Xiangyu Xu, Hehe Fan, Pan Zhou, Jun Liu, Jia-Wei Liu, Jiahe Li, Jussi Keppo, Mike Zheng Shou, Shuicheng Yan

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Existing methods of privacy-preserving action recognition (PPAR) mainly focus on frame-level (spatial) privacy removal through 2D CNNs. Unfortunately, they have two major drawbacks. First, they may compromise temporal dynamics in input videos, which are critical for accurate action recognition. Second, they are vulnerable to practical attacking scenarios where attackers probe for privacy from an entire video rather than individual frames. To address these issues, we propose a novel framework STPrivacy to perform video-level PPAR. For the first time, we introduce vision Transformers into PPAR by treating a video as a tubelet sequence, and accordingly design two complementary mechanisms, i.e., sparsification …

Learning Provably Stabilizing Neural Controllers For Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems, Matin Ansaripour, Krishnendu Chatterjee, A. Thomas Henzinger, Mathias Lechner, Dorde Zikelic Oct 2023

Learning Provably Stabilizing Neural Controllers For Discrete-Time Stochastic Systems, Matin Ansaripour, Krishnendu Chatterjee, A. Thomas Henzinger, Mathias Lechner, Dorde Zikelic

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We consider the problem of learning control policies in discrete-time stochastic systems which guarantee that the system stabilizes within some specified stabilization region with probability 1. Our approach is based on the novel notion of stabilizing ranking supermartingales (sRSMs) that we introduce in this work. Our sRSMs overcome the limitation of methods proposed in previous works whose applicability is restricted to systems in which the stabilizing region cannot be left once entered under any control policy. We present a learning procedure that learns a control policy together with an sRSM that formally certifies probability 1 stability, both learned as neural …

Reachability Poorman Discrete-Bidding Games, Guy Avni, Tobias Meggendorfer, Suman Sadhukhan, Josef Tkadlec, Dorde Zikelic

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We consider bidding games, a class of two-player zerosum graph games. The game proceeds as follows. Both players have bounded budgets. A token is placed on a vertex of a graph, in each turn the players simultaneously submit bids, and the higher bidder moves the token, where we break bidding ties in favor of Player 1. Player 1 wins the game iff the token visits a designated target vertex. Weconsider, for the first time, poorman discrete-bidding in which the granularity of the bids is restricted and the higher bid is paid to the bank. Previous work either did not impose …

Ubisurface: A Robotic Touch Surface For Supporting Mid-Air Planar Interactions In Room-Scale Vr, Ryota Gomi, Kazuki Takashima, Yuki Onishi, Kazuyuki Fujita, Yoshifumi Kitamura

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Room-scale VR has been considered an alternative to physical office workspaces. For office activities, users frequently require planar input methods, such as typing or handwriting, to quickly record annotations to virtual content. However, current off-The-shelf VR HMD setups rely on mid-Air interactions, which can cause arm fatigue and decrease input accuracy. To address this issue, we propose UbiSurface, a robotic touch surface that can automatically reposition itself to physically present a virtual planar input surface (VR whiteboard, VR canvas, etc.) to users and to permit them to achieve accurate and fatigue-less input while walking around a virtual room. We design …

Invariant Training 2d-3d Joint Hard Samples For Few-Shot Point Cloud Recognition, Xuanyu Yi, Jiajun Deng, Qianru Sun, Xian-Sheng Hua, Joo-Hwee Lim, Hanwang Zhang Oct 2023

Invariant Training 2d-3d Joint Hard Samples For Few-Shot Point Cloud Recognition, Xuanyu Yi, Jiajun Deng, Qianru Sun, Xian-Sheng Hua, Joo-Hwee Lim, Hanwang Zhang

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

We tackle the data scarcity challenge in few-shot point cloud recognition of 3D objects by using a joint prediction from a conventional 3D model and a well-pretrained 2D model. Surprisingly, such an ensemble, though seems trivial, has hardly been shown effective in recent 2D-3D models. We find out the crux is the less effective training for the “joint hard samples”, which have high confidence prediction on different wrong labels, implying that the 2D and 3D models do not collaborate well. To this end, our proposed invariant training strategy, called INVJOINT, does not only emphasize the training more on the hard …
