Exploring Determinants Of Registered Nurses' Trust In Their Managers, Barbara Joy Wilson-Keates Jul 2017

Exploring Determinants Of Registered Nurses' Trust In Their Managers, Barbara Joy Wilson-Keates

Dissertations

A nurse-manager relationship plays a key role in a nurse's practice environment. A nurse's trust in one's manager is the foundation for a supportive nurse-manager relationship and has crucial bearing upon the professional and personal lives of the nurse. However due to health care restructuring, nurses expressed little trust towards their leaders. To develop and implement strategies to help build healthy nurse-manager relationships, research is needed to more fully understand the factors that establish and enhance a nurse's trust in one's manager.

Implementation Of An Employee-Family Health Clinic Within A Specialty Practice, Alena Lester May 2017

Implementation Of An Employee-Family Health Clinic Within A Specialty Practice, Alena Lester

DNP and Student Works

Studies have shown that healthier employees prove to be more productive, have less work absences, and tend to stay with a company longer (Schultz and Edington, 2007). Larger corporations have implemented such work-site clinics for years. However, there is little research available for smaller companies. Nurse-led and pharmacist-led clinics in Europe have proven to have successful health outcomes (Briggs, Closs, Marczewski, & Barratt, 2008).Other such outreach clinics, such as pharmacist-led health clinics have become more widely accepted in the United States(Green, 2008). It was our aim to not only meet a great need for primary care services within our own …

Use Of Standardized Processes To Achieve Optimal Pre-Surgical Skin Asepsis, Rose Loiacono Apr 2017

Use Of Standardized Processes To Achieve Optimal Pre-Surgical Skin Asepsis, Rose Loiacono

DNP and Student Works

Surgical site infections are a significant threat to patient safety, they increase patient mortality and morbidity, and increase health care expenditures. A pre-surgical protocol that implements two applications of 2% Chlorhexidine gluconate using prepackaged cloths is an evidence-based practice that kills and then prohibits the growth of potentially dangerous skin flora. The purpose of this project was to evaluate the effectiveness of 2% Chlorhexidine gluconate cloths when administered twice pre-surgically to reduce the incidence of surgical site infections and to improve pre-surgical documentation. The Iowa framework for quality improvement was used with results demonstrating that, while documentation remained an area …

Nonetheless, nurses are challenged daily with promoting skin-to-skin, especially after a cesarean delivery. West Kendall Baptist Hospital embarked on a journey to implement a change process of transitioning all eligible newborns at the …

A World View Of Person And Family Centered Care, Joanne Disch Mar 2016

A World View Of Person And Family Centered Care, Joanne Disch

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Session presented on Tuesday, November 10, 2015:

Although substantial work is being done in many countries to advance the concept of person and family-centered care, there is no universal definition that has been adopted. The international Alliance of Patients' Organizations (2007, p. 2) uses the term patient-centred healthcare to "describe healthcare that is designed and practiced with the patient at the centre." However it has become clear over the past 20 years that this definition can encompass working with, doing for or doing to - with patients and their families having little say in the design, delivery or evaluation of …

Taking Charge: Engaging Patients As Full Partners, Mary Walton

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Session presented on Tuesday, November 10, 2015:

A growing body of evidence demonstrates that improving the patient experience and developing partnerships with patients/families correlates with improved health outcomes. Patients who are more involved in their care are better able to: manage complex chronic conditions, seek appropriate assistance, have reduced lengths of stay, avoid readmissions and emergency department visits, and experience increased satisfaction. To achieve this, health care professionals need to engage patients and families in partnered relationships, and equip them with the relevant information, resources, access and support to fully engage in and/or direct their health care experience. This includes …
